  1. Yeah! And the fact that Kings Island uses Carowind's Skytower in Winterfest descriptions is just fine. What do you mean?
  2. Does any other park put yellow tape at the bottom of the OTSRs like we do?
  3. ^ Heck, the whole face of the industry is changing. I mean, I was playing RCT3 the other night (yes, after a year I finally got the darn thing to work on my computer) and I noticed that in several of the scenarios, you start off with the ability to build things like a slingshot-style ride and a 3D cinema, but the ability to build a wooden coaster comes later... I mean, I'm sure that it's just gameplay but where is the world coming to when the ability to build a woody is an afterthought..
  4. Can we talk about things like this on here? So long as it stays tasteful.
  5. My guess is that Skyline is there to stay. The thing that's curious about it is that it seems as though PKI always followed Walt Disney's theory about the main street, in which people will inherently enter on the right side and exit on the left, thus food stands should always be on the right since people will be checking out what looks and smells good as they enter, and souvineer stands and shops should always be on the left because people will be likely to pick up souvineers on their way out. This seems to hold relatively true for PKI, I mean, there are probably more shops on the right side than Walt would have wanted, but you do pass a long string of restaurants. With the exception of whoever happens to be currently occupying the area were Skyline is now as well as the place the sells the funnel cakes (loosely speaking since it's kind of around the corner) there are really mainly shops on the right. Click here to see the photo of the new Skyline from the article that the Captain was talking about. BRING BACK THE CHIPPERY!!!
  6. I voted for Phantom's Revenge, but I'd say Exterminator was in a CLOSE second.
  7. I went last July and there weren't. The rocking is the best part! You could totally tell who were the locals in Noah's Ark because there were probably 10 people in the room with the animatronic animals swaying with the boat looking at them and having conversations, while I'm trying to stop myself from running into walls and such.
  8. They had the same thing at the Forest Fair Mall several years ago. They called it "Glice Skating" which may or may not be the name of the technology. I'm a prettty experienced skater and I even found it difficult to skate on... of course, this was years ago.. I have heard that they're going to install cooling coils for the fountain, but I'm not certain. It would make a lot of sense because we have such odd winters around here.
  9. Kennywood is my favorite park besides PKI. Noah's Ark made my day there.
  10. CoasterRZ was so kind as to share with us his photos of the fountain being overhauled for Winterfest. You'll be able to see that they are laying pallets down to create a base for the skating rink. Click here to go to CoasterRZ's web site!
  11. From the concept video, it looks as if they're going to use similar technology to what they used for Nights of Fire.
  12. The way it was explained to me is that B&M does things a certain way. For example, if they manufacture a coaster that's 180ft tall with 3 inversions one year, they won't manufacture a coaster that's 300ft tall with 8 inversions the next. This is simply so they don't destroy their market in between. With PKI wanted all of these custom jobs, it would be difficult to work with such an orginization. I'm not 100% sure of that, but that's what I've heard.
  13. The ride was just as stated before -- more or less Wild Thormberrie's without the extra squirting effects. The ride was fun, but the most distinct thing I remember was how they had the turntable-style loading platform.
  14. Get tickets from either Blockbuster or Kroger, I think they're selling them with a big discount.

    Kings Island

They've closed early the past two years on season passholders' day. You have to admit, though, that's one of the most fun days of the season!
  16. And you know they were not replaced before then how...? Actually, from what I understand, the elevators that were installed at the beginning of the 04 season did replace the original elevators. I think he's right.
  17. Accroding to the press announcement, the rides that will be open are the two carousels, the train, and a "Christmas-ized" SDATHC.
  18. I haven't seen the arcade yet, but he's right, it has changed. They sold clothing and stuff at the beginning of the season.
  19. Was that the Chuck E. Cheese style thing with the ball pits and stuff?
  20. Back to what Klockster was saying about Arrow... When Arrow development originally designed the log flume, the owners of the park (and I think this was Knott's at the time) told them that it should be a water ride, but no one should get wet. It was simply the mode of transportation. After arguing with the park and doing extensive research, they came to the conclusion that people want to get "kind of wet" on water rides. That directly relates to the front of the flume. If you noticed that a cylindrical shape is cut out. It's actually intended to push water away and have a small amount splash up. Now, I think the theory is true because it's never really fun to get drenched on these rides. It's always one of those things that sounds good at the time, but then you regret it an hour later. I'd say all 3 have ups and downs: Flume: Ups: Cool theme Classic ride Downs: Ride can be boring at points Congo: Ups: Excellent air time Downs: Short Themeless WWC: Ups: Perfect natural theme Interesting layout Downs: Gets you too wet sometimes Brandon's the sup Just kidding Brandon!!
  21. Yeah --- I haven't been up there in a couple of weeks.. have they done anything with the Royal Fountain yet or is it still just empty?
  22. Yeah, just be at The Beast at close.

PKI vs. PKD - It’s Like Seeing An Old Friend by Lisa Bamberger, Park Guest Paramount Parks offers a blast of a time for people of all ages. As a long-time visitor of Kings Island, I took a trip over to their sister park Kings Dominion. They had some unique rides and shows, and yet so many similarities to Kings Island that it was deja vu. If you’re a fan of one, you’ll want to visit the other. It’s like seeing an old friend. Driving on I-71 in Ohio and I-95 in Virginia, you can see the same Eiffel Tower replica. Once inside Kings Dominion, it’s a concourse of original attractions and twin rides found in both parks, yet some have unique differences. Both parks have The Racer (called Rebel Yell at PKD) and the Flight of Fear. Drop Zone at PKI rotates on the way up; Tomb Raider at PKD is outdoors. PKD’s feature steel coaster, Anaconda, seats two across and has loops like PKI’s Vortex, but includes an underwater tunnel and splash effect. PKD’s Hypersonic XLC and PKI’s Italian Job are both thrilling coasters you ride in a race car along the track. Eating can add pleasure to your visit with tasty choices offered at both parks at reasonable prices. At PKI, I recommend Cincinnati favorites LaRosa’s Pizza and Skyline Chili which is served at several locations throughout their park. PKD offers delicious Black Angus burgers at Happy Days Café and other locations. When visiting both PKI and PKD, make time for School of Rock Live In Concert. Even my “don’t like shows†boyfriend really liked this one. At Star Search you can compete singing your favorite song live on stage. For some of us this is more frightful than any roller coaster! People love to be a star and we love watch, cheer, and even laugh. Go to both parks and experience the fun yourself. I must admit I prefer Kings Island, the King of Woodies! My boyfriend, who’s only been to Kings Dominion, says I’m partial to my home town park, but we’ll see! I can’t wait to take him there along with my son and brother next year! A Boy, A Girl and Kings Island Numerous times when I was a kid, my family would take yearly trips to Kings Island. However, due to me and my siblings growing up and being involved in nearly everything that we could, it became harder to take those annual vacations out to the amusement park, even though the thought of it was always there. About three years ago, I met and began falling in love with the most wonderful girl. We became inseparable. As we were getting to know each other, we would talk about our past and things we had done. One time the topic of vacations came up including Kings Island. We both had gone there many times when we were young with our families and both hadn't been back in a long time. It was kind of ironic and interesting that there could have been times that both our families were at the park at the same time, and that we could have seen each other even before we actually knew it! It was almost like Kings Island was some sort of fate that brought us together! With this thought always on our minds, we both decided that we needed to go back there sometime to relive those childhood memories. We managed to find a time this past summer right when we got out of our sophomore year in college to plan a vacation out to Ohio and back to the park we remember from our childhood years. It was such a wonderful time and we couldn't have picked a better place to visit. It was fun to be in the park and see how much each of us remembered from years back. The trip was also special because we were creating new memories - this time together! It was a special time with the most special person that I know, and we both look forward to revisiting the park more times in the upcoming years. We now see the connection that we have to the park and to each other even all the way back as far as we could remember. Thanks Kings Island for creating those memories, for initially bringing us together, and for having many more special times for us to share in the future! Brian C. from Peoria, IL will receive two tickets to Paramount's Kings Island. Winners are randomly selected. Submit your entry! Stay tuned for our next issue in two weeks! Stine grew up in Columbus, Ohio near Paramount’s Kings Island. He even wrote a book about one of the roller coasters in our park. Can you tell us the name of that book? Last issue we asked you what is the site of Ichabod Crane's last hours before his unfortunate encounter with the headless horseman? The answer, as stated on PKI's FearFest Site, is the Van Tassel Farmhouse. Congratulations to Allen J. from Dayton, OH for knowing the correct answer! He will receive two free tickets to Paramount's Kings Island. Contact Us Have a question about your Season Pass or about ordering online? Have a comment about our newsletter? Send us a note!
