  1. I thought this one might be of particular interest to some of you: Link: https://linktr.ee/towertopics
  2. Ha! That, or the random IT guy who programmed it didn’t know the difference. But hey - if they’re going to drop clues, we’ll take them!
  3. Several clubs have done events during the Coasterstock era. Specifically, I know GOCC and TPR have been there. People who wanted to do events had the opportunity; however, they had to work with Group Sales to hammer out the details. The main reason why individual clubs didn't do as many events is likely that they couldn't guarantee the numbers since people aren't going to travel twice to the same park twice in one year - especially if they are coming from far away. Everyone who has said that putting on these events is a big effort is absolutely correct. It's also a big drain on resources. As opposed to ACE, GOCC, Coaster Crew, TPR, KIC, etc all requesting events with some being told 'no' because of the limitation on resources, the idea was to have one big event that everyone can enjoy. Cedar Point plays their hand in a similar way with their event. I attended the first two Coasterstock events. Once tickets became hard to come by, I stopped going because I had done most of the activities and knew most of the speakers. I'm sure that I would have had a great time, but I feel good about my decision to relinquish my spot to someone who may be experiencing all of this for the first time. The years that I went I had a great time! I also made friends at Coasterstock that I will always value. It's being said that it'll be back in 2025, and for the sake of those who truly love the event each year, I hope they do... but I still have my doubts.
  4. Okay, then what about paying less to clean very busy, very disgusting public restrooms?
  5. If you got to live in the SOB station and get Blue Ice Cream you wouldn’t be working for free, now would you?
  6. Update: Oof. A restroom attendant pays $15.25. How bad of a work environment is the food department? Literally they have to pay more to serve food than to clean up public restrooms.
  7. Food says it starts at $15.50. Is that a reduction from last year? I know $14 is because people were talking about it on Reddit.
  8. I saw this on Reddit. Last year they started at $15. Bookmark this page for when they try to tell us that rides, restaurants, and so on are closing early due to staffing and not budget cuts.
  9. Guarantee that if you had the perfect candidate they still would have picked who they did. Why do I know this? Because the person they picked didn’t nearly meet the requirements listed on the job posting. No disrespect to person who got it. But let’s be honest - the person who was picked was chosen because they aren’t a threat to the decision maker. Probably part of the reason why the position was open in the first place. So no - “if you don’t like what’s going on then you should have applied” is not an argument that holds water.
  10. Don and I reported on the Pick Six that Holiday World had said on their podcast that their Vekoma Family Boomerang was promised to be the first one to open in America, thus Soapbox Racers wouldn’t open with the park on April 20. I cannot tell you how many times people came to us from “official sources” claiming that it wasn’t true and that we didn’t know what we were talking about. A smear campaign. If the quote above is true (and who knows what is anymore) then Camp Snoopy is, and always was, planned to open late. They knew about the Holiday World situation. Otherwise, why would, “on schedule” mean “late Spring?” Who would intentionally do that?

  12. Weird. Your link isn’t working for me either.
  13. Right, but you can certainly sell season passes. In fact, it’s critical for the quarter.
  14. Found this on LinkedIn of all places. Very cool! https://youtu.be/VM3cMb3uYIM?si=AoauuEcjbQvA8ki9
  15. For the consumer, yes - good idea. From a business standpoint, a bad sign. There’s a reason they never really did this. Now they can’t plan around the numbers, diminishing the experience for all FL people. Plus they are terribly disrupting their dynamic pricing model with this. Looks like they need revenue, and they need it now. They’re also promoting the Silver Pass, which is a first. This may indicate that certain avenues of Q4 didn’t go so hot and they are scrambling to make up ground now.
  16. It’s a little coincidental that this thread was bumped. Tomb Raider: The Ride is the subject of the latest Tower Topics: http://www.towertopics.com
  17. There’s a reason why it’s not labeled with a person’s name, just “KI Team.” This way one person work cannot be compared to a previous person’s - for better or worse. Notice that the sister parks don’t seem to do this consistently, like KI appears to be doing.
  18. Hey now - you don’t know what they were doing the day that they had the ground breaking. Maybe their kid had a soccer game. Maybe they were on a cruise. You never know.
  19. Gaskins has the longest KI streak. Congrats on a good article! https://www.fox19.com/2024/01/03/tri-state-mans-perfect-kings-island-attendance-record/
  20. Just creating a thread to talk about the most high-energy night of the year at KI. Some notes: Park was cold and crowded. Maybe our good luck stretch of post-rain 60 degrees on NYE is over. But to be honest, being warm on NYE is like spending Christmas on the beach. The parade did not do shop stops due to the cold (I presume). I had heard about this happening but had never seen it myself. What’s weird is they still stop momentarily when the show stop is supposed to occur and then go again after a few seconds. Must be a timing thing. The fact that the parade didn’t feel terribly lacking without show stops is a testament to how good the parade is! The balloon drop worked perfectly for the first time in my memory. Such a great event and the kids LOVE it! The DJ on the stage was very loud, but you need that for the energy. Fireworks show was amazing! I really enjoyed it! They advertised several times, including the DJ’s spiel, that they’d have a countdown on the tower. They’ve done that in the past. Instead they had the tree “climb” kind of like the tree lighting and it hit the top at midnight. Clearly this was intentional, and it worked very well. I wonder what was up with that.
  21. Obviously if you live in the suburbs then you wouldn't get away with it, but I've always wondered if I live on a farm and owned my own flat ride like flying scooters if I could get away with having it operational for personal use.
  22. Six Flags (NYSE:SIX) and Cedar Fair (NYSE:FUN) pulled and refiled their premerger notification and report under the HSR Act. The amusement park chains withdrew their respective notifications on Wednesday and refiled them on Thursday, according to a proxy filing Friday. The waiting period has now been extended until Jan. 22 https://seekingalpha.com/news/4050284-six-flags-cedar-fair-pull-refile-merger-notification-with-antitrust-regulator
  23. Regardless of the crowds, I would recommend it. NYE has a special energy to it. One of my favorite nights of the year at KI! Honestly not trying to turn this into a selfish plug, but we did a Tower Topics about NYE that goes over a lot of what goes on: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tower-topics/id1698426928?i=1000637919029 Spotify:
  24. Totally see what you’re saying. But I don’t think that the SP holders are the ones most rattled… or at least making the most noise. My concern would be the overall sentiment of CSO could take a hit, which wouldn’t be good for a donation-based organization. But you’re likely right-it won’t really matter. And no need for a tin foil hat. Releasing negative news at a time when it’s unlikely to be run is a very common PR tactic. I do not, however, think that is the case here. Up until just a few days before the announcement Coney was trying to sell season passes. This tells me that there may have been a “will they / won’t they?” situation and as soon as they either came to an agreement or CSO secured funding, they made the announcement. I truly do think they were trying to do the right thing.
  25. Only took 5 years to build! Who has ridden? I’ve ridden it twice. I honestly think it’s underrated. That first launch is great! Many argue that it’s too short; however, I think that many would take issue with that crouching position for a long period of time.
