  1. I'm sorry, Chef, I'm just trying to imagine floating along on an inner tube to the strains of "Staying Alive" - or "Hopelessly Devoted To You" - and it just doesn't fit. The visual is pretty funny though. Olivia had some decent summer tunes in "Grease" - but "Grease" is already SO overdone throughout the park. Don't they have licensing issues for whatever music they play, don't they have to have permission since they are playing them in a private park for which they charge admission? I always thought they did, and that's what kept the playlist so short, because those royalty issues get to be such a pain.

    Flyer Rumor

I also rode S:UF at SFGAM and was unimpressed. Very uncomfortable, not very exciting and definitely not worth a three-hour wait. (Plus, this being Six Flags, our stuff was stolen while we were in line...) It was something different but not something that gave us that "let's do that AGAIN!" feeling that The Beast still gives after 20+ years. I'd love to see a floorless at PKI though, like Batman at SF, someday.
  3. I agree with Chef and Grunts both, strongly. Not only coaster forums have off-topic areas. I have never participated in any forum that didn't. Word games, Top-5's, etc. keep people coming back when things are slow - who will see something else that interests them. They also help people to relax - and then feel more comfortable debating other topics with virtual strangers. I would go on but they summed it up quite well already.
  4. PKIC on Mars was the easiest to follow overall, provided several decent giggles, and had the "personal" touch to identify with. Now the sequel.....?
  5. OK, I'm showing my age again, but I actually enjoyed all the Beach Boys music played in Waterworks. All of the good-time, Summer oldies. I can't see it changing that much, I don't even know what Australian music would be. INXS? Kylie Minogue?
  6. "you may have to ignore some words." Like "F-O-R-U-M?"
  7. To quote the Chef once again: "PKIC is a great place and I would like to help it in any way possible." ME TOO!!!!
  8. To quote the Chef: "I'm willing to dig in my jeans and pull out them greens..." Now that I finally figured out what the :censored: that means, SO AM I!!
  9. 10. All original characters, none recycled. 9. Cool casket cars. 8. Great 1st haunted house to break the little kids in on. 7. Very dark atmosphere for those without kids... 6. Maestro - boy, did this guy get around. 5. The spooky, legless ghost usher who showed up twice. 4. No on-ride photos! 3. Cheesiest special effect of all time - the "breaking mirror." Classic! 2. The Centurion! You have gone too far, you have seen too much! 1. Some of us were sick of Scooby by the time he finished his first run 30 years ago!
  10. One person's "bad" location is another's dream. Chicago is 10X more populated than Cincinnati, that translates to 10X more traffic, etc., and overcrowded everything...including Six Flags, where a bad hot dog you wait an hour for costs $5 and the lines are 3 hours long for everything. PKI IS more of a local type park, that's why I prefer it. I'll take those 5 hours driving over standing in endless lines any day.
  11. I chose "other" because I now have six months to clean, organize, paint, and otherwise take care of my house - so I can spend the summer letting it all go to heck while I'm out having fun.
  12. Hi Chef! I read your stories and although I'm not the best journalism critic I have a couple opinions to offer: It was fast-paced and fun. And I assume the ending was intended to be a cliffhanger? The Adventure Express story was more location-driven than character-driven like the Phantom Theater story. I'm sure we're all looking forward to the PKIC/Mars adventure. As someone with NO imagination I would love to see what you do with it! And as a parent of a straight-A honors student who HATES to read, I'm all for anything that gets her to read! So keep 'em coming!
  13. Rivertown all the way. Best coaster - Beast, Best food - Footlongs & Pizza, Best Game - Bowler Roller, Best water ride - WWC, Best atmosphere - even the (yuck) country music doesn't spoil it. (Action Zone is a close second for rides/food/atmosphere but the always-frowning, never-friendly crew at Delirium bums me out.)
  14. How about emailing your friend who emailed you and asking him to send you one of it now? I looked on the Flamingo Land website and it has the description but no picture.
  15. So where's the picture Dane?! Pleeeeease?
  16. Yes. We got in with our 2003 passes. This was one of the most confusing marketing campaigns I've ever seen. I'd love to see the bottom line on this one, did that many people renew early because of it? I can't be the only one who renews every year but doesn't want to do it 8 months early and (1) have my kids look nothing like their pictures by the time we use them and get hassled (happened before) or (2) lose them.
  17. You can tell pretty well from the pictures the size of it...as I recall it didn't go very fast at all. I know I rode it and it wasn't a favorite. Skylab was way better. My flight commander picture hunt is drawing to a close, I'll find one when I'm not looking for it - although I did find my 1987 brochure (featuring the NEW Vortex), 1987 Kings Island Stationery pad, ticket stubs from '97 ($25.95), and a bunch of pics from 1992, including the monorail, Yogi, and a couple shots off the Eiffel Tower that you can't even see Flight Commander in.
  18. As far as the memory of the game op giving a prize away, I agree, that's one of the things you're going to remember about a park...a couple years ago PKI had Spyro's at the football throw game. We really wanted one so my friend started throwing footballs, she made ONE. About $30 later the game op gave her the Spyro. Paramount still made money on us but the guy didn't have to do that, we didn't ask him to, and that's the kind of thing that keeps us coming back. PKI has some of the friendliest employees anywhere and that's how they maintain their atmosphere, to be that big but still give the personal attention, and usually with a smile. That's not easy to find these days. And yeah, I've been going there nearly 20 years, before The Vortex even opened, but don't long for the old days. They have managed to expand without losing all the comfortable, friendly feeling. It doesn't feel cold and corporate, I hope it never does.
  19. Holy cow, has this gotten :offtopic: ! There could be a whole 'nother editorial in here (The virtues of H-B Land and Nick for the under-5 crowd...) or at least a Poll (How great a dad will the Chef be?)! Chef, you're going to be fine. I try to parent like my dad did, he was very young at heart til the day he died suddenly when I was 19. Which also taught me that there are no guarantees, live every moment, and take nothing for granted. Mom (100% Italian) was -still is- the Drill Sergeant. In the interest of keeping this topic open for hopefully more opinions on Boddah's editorial (and because I have this "fear" of being deleted repeatedly!) I will try to bring it back around to the original topic by asking whether you will take the little Chef to the smaller parks as well as PKI?
  20. I agree with Chef about the "sign of the times" - it is sad to think that your generation may be the last one that even remembers the old Mom & Pop businesses. I believe that bigger is not always better, but I am in the minority on that. I grew up at a time when $4 bought you a whole day's fun at Adventureland, with all of the old classic rides - Six Flags killed Adventureland by 1980. We also had a very quaint INDOOR amusement park (including a looping steel coaster) that died after just a few years because of corporate greed and mismanagement. It's sad to me, but it's all about giving the people what they want - if more people supported the small parks and didn't only flock to Disney, that's the only way things will change. We have one small family park that survives today, I brought my kids there when they were small instead of Six Flags. Will it still be there for their kids? Now that I can afford to go to any park I want, I still choose PKI because although it has become more commercialized since the days of the Smurfs and the monorail, it still has more of the charm, friendliness, and relaxed atmosphere than any of the others I've been to - and I give most of the credit for that to the employees. I've been to several Six Flags I don't even remember, Disney didn't impress me. In my opinion PKI has managed to grow with the times while keeping its nostalgic atmosphere, not perfectly, but better than most.
  21. DragonLord, I would never forget you!!! I was hoping we would run into you again but figured you must have been really busy. Great to see you over here, by the way, I have missed your words of wisdom. And fusiondude, didn't mean to leave you out. It's difficult from my adult perspective to compliment you nice young people without sounding like an idiot.
  22. I just want to thank everyone for a great day. As out-of-towners it was wonderful to be welcomed and treated so nicely by everyone there. Coasterguy, the page is great and I never saw you take one picture. Amber is a pretty young lady who should not be camera-shy - and it was fun talking to your dad! (I also hope his shirt regains its original shape...) Chef, it was great to finally meet you and Mrs. Chef, sorry she couldn't stay longer as I'm sure I would have enjoyed talking to her, and I hope all continues to go well for you both. Docdude, sorry you had to leave, I hope your fiance is OK now - great t-shirt too. Dane introduced the girls to the thrill of snapping the Eagles and led us into our first haunted house at FearFest. Dan put up with us until the bitter end and drove us through Route 666. Thank you both, and thank you for organizing this. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did and I hope we can do it again next summer. Back home tomorrow, til next June.
  23. Happy to be 40 years young. I also represent a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old.
  24. Hooray we are finally here!!! And it only took SIX hours this time. I am exhausted so although we set the alarm I can't guarantee getting up on time. I may even talk the girls into their PKIC shirts, they're so happy to be here. If I oversleep we will call the cell phone listed - if you see a 708 area code, that's us. I'll be the little old lady in the PKIC shirt looking lost. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
  25. "Saturyday" Chef? Sounds like you're tired NOW. We will be there Sunday. Don't come all this way to turn around and leave until we HAVE to.
