  1. Danielradsgrl - I believe at 40 I qualify as an adult. However, I still think I'm pretty "cool" too. I hope it's possible to be both! Dane - I bet my daughter wouldn't mind lending you her shirt for the day. I also have a medium (what was I thinking) that my 12 year old won't fit in for many years, if anyone wants it. I will reorder the correct size. I love the nametag idea. Like, "Hello, my name is........Fusiondude." OK, so I'm easily amused. And you mean there isn't an actual PKIC banner??
  2. Three votes for Face/Off here. Got our t-shirts yesterday. Talking the teenager into wearing it is another story. She'd rather eat glass than wear the same thing as me...maybe another vote.
  3. Oh no, Chef, for the first time I have to disagree with you...kind of. I agree 100% that if they are going to have an Australian theme it should be all-encompassing. Just two areas that I'm sure we can agree to disagree: 1. I think they should still have the basics (pizza, hot dogs, whatever) available somewhere for us wussy eaters who weren't forced to eat our veggies as kids and now fear them. (They could put it in little letters down on the bottom, a lot of chinese and mexican restaurants do that.) 2. I don't think they should serve beer - BUT if they do they should have authentic Australian. So that's not like total disagreement, right?
  4. I do. I liked the sign the way it was originally better too but things change. I still have a lot of souvenirs from the 80's, without the "Paramount" on them.
  5. OK, so I finally read it. I must admit I am NOT a movie person unless it involves Muppets or Ernest (or even better, Spongebob!), so I didn't see any similarities. I liked it. Who'd have thought that ole' Maestro was such a stud?
  6. I am a Happy Camper, we will be there!! Mr. G. has to work (those darn major metropolitan newspapers insist on printing every day, even weekends) but my girls cleared their schedules (amazing) so I get quality time with them all weekend. Not sure if we're leaving Friday night or Saturday morning but we should make it by 3:00 either way.
  7. The Home Page looks much better with the spelling corrected - thank you!!!! And I am NOT artistic at all but I like the swirl. I took it to fit in with the "roundness" of the rides.
  8. Chef-- I am that 14-year-old-daughter that was mentioned before... Well I read the story and I thought it was very good. It fits along with the ride very well and I found it entertaining. I especially liked the part when "Otto punched the vase and broke". Lol. No really, it is a very good story, better than anything that I ever could have written. It is very creative. I enjoyed it very much and I hope that other people enjoy it also. -The 14-year-old daughter :stupid:
  9. Dane - You guys spelled "Restaurants" wrong on the home page! Or was that intentional? Also "Calendar." I would just hate for anybody to see that and criticize you on your first day. Not that ANY PKI fans would ever criticize, of course.....
  10. Hi Chef! It has taken me awhile to peruse the new site (Mac user, is that why?) but I am going to have your story reviewed by someone with far more expertise than I - my 14-year-old daughter. I will let you know what the critic says. Looks great! And, better picture than on your book!
  11. Truthfully I love them all but The Beast gets my vote because it is totally one of a kind, a completely different ride at night, and an "experience" every time.
  12. I agree that a sense of humor is extremely important (to get along at all in this world). It's a lot harder to act like a jerk when you're laughing. Let's just all have fun here, please?
  13. That's the weekend I hope to make it, for the past few years we have gone Columbus Day weekend so we could use the holiday Monday to drive home. Last year it was more crowded than I have ever seen it on the Saturday and this year it's "Scout Fun Days" weekend so I have a feeling it will be packed. We don't make it in until evening though. But I'll still buy the t-shirts.
  14. Hey Chef, I voted for LaRosa's International Street because we like to grab a last slice of pizza and watch the fireworks/fountain there, it's just perfect. However, my actual favorite is the footlong hotdog place by WWC. Love the hotdogs, love the fries, it's shaded and I like the peace and the trees around. How ironic to be a chef with a bad stomach! You would think there would be more that modern medicine could do to help you, but, a bout of e.coli - yikes! I can't imagine that. I'm the opposite, I can't cook, period, but I can eat anything anytime (as long as somebody else cooks). Anyway, I would vote for the footlongs, but that place is closed too often. At least we can always get pizza!
  15. Hey Chef, If they decided to move PKI anywhere within the continental United States (and it remained the same) I would still go. However, since we're dreaming here, if they were to move it about 300 miles Northwest, like to Chicago - I would be ecstatic! If the idea is, what could replace PKI in the Cinncinati area for amusement/recreation, being a foreigner I don't really know. I really liked the zoo, Coney Island looks really quaint - I like the whole area from what I've seen. This summer I saw the same concert at Tweeter here and at the Riverbend there and I prefer the Riverbend by far, no contest. But PKI is much more than just another amusement park, especially to those of us with a long history of great memories there...it has that "it" that you can't describe but other parks don't have. I could drive 30 minutes and go to Six Flags Great America any day but it does very little for me - doesn't even compare to PKI. So, it's a little different for me. I never went to PKI because it was my local park, I already travel a good distance, so if they packed it up and moved it I'd still go.
  16. Excellent topic once again, Chef. Also excellent answers. Why do we love PKI? How to narrow it down?...but I'll try. 1, 2 & 3. The Beast! 4. The rest of the rides. 5. The atmosphere and the employees, without whom the atmoshpere would not be what it is. Relaxed and happy and safe, not a care in the world. I am many years past History exams and cheating boyfriends but the idea still applies to us old folks. When I'm waitng for FoF to launch the furthest thing from my mind is dirty laundry or bills, assinine bosses or cleaning gutters. Just that tunnel... 6. Used to be a negative, now a positive. It is 300+ miles from home. Now that my kids are teens it is the only place I can take them and spend time with them without running into 87 kids they know, where I get them all to myself. The only place where my little girls are still my little girls. (And I can be too.) That's some kind of magic. 7. The fudge! Never have found better fudge anywhere.
  17. I would be the old blonde lady and my daughters the little blonde girl and the teenage brunette. Sorry you have bad memories of that day, we had a lot of fun. The only bad part was.....BBBRRRRRRRR......
  18. Hi Chef, A meeting is a great idea (I like the scrapbook idea too). I have to admit, one of the highlights of my long-awaited, too-short trip to PKI last week was actually meeting Dragonlord!! Living 300+ miles away, the chances of running into someone I know at PKI are nill. We're happy to have someone we can say "hi" to now. Besides, it was nice to meet him in person and find out he's not the scary, mean "rent-a-cop" (that term just cracks me up, some of my best friends - and Mr. G. - are "rent-a-cops") some on these forums would have us think....my kids weren't scared of him at all! I hope you guys get it together this weekend and have a great time. Maybe you'll be around during FearFest? We should be there on the 11th & 12th and hopefully one more weekend. Would love to meet the famous Chef, and Mrs. Chef, and any other members of the PKIU community!
  19. Sorry, and I'm not "insulting" you, but you should have waited for your brother. Why didn't you? Had you waited (which is basic common courtesy) for your brother none of the scene you describe would have happened. Instead you blame someone else for doing their job. You will not like it when people hassle you for doing yours someday. There is no way I would leave one of my kids to "catch up" in line with me, or vice-versa, EVER. Why even bother having the lines then? Everybody should just go where they want whenever they want. But when somebody jumps a rail or shoves somebody and gets injured, THEN it's security's fault. "Getting mad" never solved a thing. And if the people at PKI are such "A-holes" don't go there.
  20. VERY well said, Losing Streak. Boy, this is a tough room.
  21. When I was a kid (yes, we're talking caveman days here) there were signs posted at the amusement parks that read "LINE JUMPERS WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE PARK. NO REFUNDS." And they were. I had several friends who decided to learn that the hard way and blow their whole day just to ride the log ride five minutes faster. Bottom line, there were A LOT LESS line jumpers then. Now, I just stand in the way, and when they say, "excuse me" I say, "no." Half the time it works, the other half of the time they call me the B word and find another way around.
  22. We love Iron Chef! That's a creative and interesting idea. Sounds like fun. I love to watch it, would never eat it.
  23. Hi Dragonlord, Just my two cents... Since I only make it to the park a few times a year I don't see too much of what you described, however, the reason I spend all the time and money to go to PKI instead of hanging out close to home is largely the employees. They make the atmosphere, which makes the park what it is. Tucked or untucked, I couldn't care less as long as it's one or the other, not half-tucked or part-tucked, and it fits. I wonder how anyone could operate those rides for hours, running back and forth, bending over, taking items from riders, cleaning up barf, etc. - and keep their shirt tucked in. Name tags are important for several reasons. I don't recall ever looking for one and not seeing one. Employees on cell phones don't bother me as long as they're not being loud or rude. If they're on a break or whatever and want to make a call that would never bother me. Walkmans I don't care for in any public place. Bottom line, I have utmost respect for PKI employees. I don't pay much attention to clothes because most of them usually wear the one thing that matters most to the guests - a smile. But sure, don't look like a slob, and be proud of where you work!
  24. Hi Chef, Sure you should watch - to see me and my kids. Not like I think we'll actually make it on camera at all...but it was fun. I'm sure others on this forum were there too?

    Weird Al

Wow Shadow, you can chant the Yoda chant? I couldn't do more than a line or two, if that. It's great that you guys all had such a great time - I'm envious, the only thing better than a Weird Al concert would have been seeing the concert after spending the day riding my favorite rides... UHF is one of my husband's favorite movies of all time. It's one of those things that a lot more people liked than will admit it. And regarding: "But DragonLord, you're lucky. Any words exchanged with Al are great words..." You're absolutely right - unless they're mine. We had the unbelievable luck to spend about 10 minutes alone with Al and he showed the patience of a saint with us. (Weird Al himself offered me a pop and I said "No thanks, I'm not thirsty." DUH!) One daughter (the biggest fan) froze, HE had to ask HER if he could sign her CD; my other daughter couldn't think of anything to ask him; and I blithered like a complete idiot. The man is as nice as he is talented. The pictures are great, waaay better than mine. We did get 5 good pictures of us with him but only a couple good shots during the show, he moves too much... Thank you guys for filling me in on the show!!!
