  1. I wish Don all the best. A huge loss for the park.

I still look back fondly on a high school project I had where we had to interview a professional in a field we were interested in. Don, set aside the time to have me come to the park and talk with him. Our conversation on international street while the park was closed and being decorated for Halloween Haunt was an amazing experience. He may not remember, but it has stuck with me. Best of luck to him, a great ambassador for the park!

The word "expected" does give them an out if it isn't running.  A lot can happen in the last few days prior to park opening.  Not getting enough cycles in to get the permit in time being one of many issues.

True, or could also be just standard PR-speech for downtime that is unexpected on any attraction, so as to avoid a hypothetical (hopefully unlikely) situation where, say, The Beast goes down and someone says "YOU SAID EVERYTHING WOULD BE OPERATING!"

Basically, I think that would be their answer regardless at any point in the operating season.

  3. Not sure if this has been mentioned… but if the park wanted to bring back phantom theater, is there a chance it wouldn’t be as expensive as bringing something of that caliber from scratch? They have the ride system, plans already (from before), and all the audio, etc… just need to build new sets and some ride vehicles… I know that’s probably way oversimplified but just something I’ve thought of.

  4. If it were brought back, I’d like it mostly the same, save for technology upgrades and maybe additional theming. And do NOT make it a shooter ride.

Regardless something needs to happen with that ride. Boo Blasters is in a sad state of affairs: queue looks gross, dusty and why are there FunTVs in there? Kills whatever atmosphere it could hope to have… also the queue and ride need some good atmospheric music. But the best improvement they could make for Boo Blasters is to replace it with another dark ride.

Great adventure does not get crowds?

It does, but it's also run by a chain that thought adding a carnival looper to a large heavily visited park was a good idea.

  6. Also would like to see the audio get turned up. The load/unload has some themed audio that would nice to hear. Especially preferred over the ride op on the mic. The music in the ride building would also be nice to hear beyond mostly just at the brake run (I know that's tougher because it is a pretty loud ride). But never understood why they keep the queue/station audio so low, same with Adventure Express. Neat little theming touches that could be remedied easily.

  7. I remember really enjoying KC when I had my chances to ride it. I was younger and had more of a tolerance for forces/roughness, but I don't remember ever thinking of KC as rough. And agreed on the comparison between KC and B&M stand ups. I've only ridden Mantis, but found it pretty unenjoyable. I think the stand up model was one where less was more. KC had just enough fun elements, but didn't go overboard, which is what made it a fun experience for me.

I would've made an exception in this case, as its Victorian aesthetic is almost perfect for a permanent Haunt attraction. But that plot is bound to be used for something down the road, so they would've most likely demolished it anyway.

I don't disagree at all  with what you're saying, but unfortunately we just have too many others in the park that would've cheapened keeping The Vortex station in my opinion. So if not for all the others I would've been more in favor of keeping it.

  9. Sad to the see the station go because it was iconic and a remnant of the days that station weren't just rectangle warehouses with a few theming elements on them. But at the end of the day, without anything big on tap for that location another 3 years or so at least, it's for the best. The park has enough empty former ride buildings as is, we didn't need another.

You know it would be kinda cool if they played some meteor shower or something on some TV screens in the queue for Orion and maybe FOF.

Not sure this is a realistic expectation, but with them kind of tying the rides together theming-wise, I could see some sort of meteor shower effect working in the queue for FoF with it being indoors and all. Nothing crazy but maybe like a warning alarm, sound effects and maybe some smoke? Could be pretty cool, but my guess is the changes are going to be primarily just on the outside.

So, what was the purpose of the camera being moved in the first place then? If they didn't want hype, they could have kept it on Banshee.  Lol

LOL! Clearly they're using it to market the attraction as a fun feature on their website. But your argument that there would be no hype over this without it or that you're entitled to it is ridiculous. But, not surprising.

Ok this is where I draw the line ( with Microsoft paint).

Don't be rude. You don't need to make fun of people like myself who put time in to make those. I don't care about the cam argument you folks are in but when you talk crap about people's art work. That's enough.

    You're right. Removed.

Do you know what hype is?

Are you even serious? So no ride in the past without a webcam has had hype? No rides at Universal or Disney have construction webcams. I don't think Hershey Park has a cam for their new coaster. It's called advertising. They're doing it and still posting pics on social media.

I'm so tired of people here kissing the park's ass.  They're clearly in the wrong here.

Get over yourself. I've criticized the park plenty of times when deserved. This isn't a big deal. But I'm done. I'm not changing any minds. My mind is not changed. This has been a nice reminder of why I and many other members have stopped frequenting this site.

It doesn’t matter if it’s free. It’s still something their customers expect and they should issue a statement when it’s no longer available. Businesses do this all the time. Silent looks good on nothing. I don’t think it’s as egregious as other people here, but I do think they should say something.

Frustration is fine, but people are treating this like it's a huge deal. It's not.

    Cool.

    Just now, KIghostguy said:

Kings Island is a business, and their primary business model is selling season passes. Season pass holders make up a very large percentage of the park's attendance--far more than most people believe. The webcams are easily accessible online and help spread publicity as people can watch this gigantic coaster being built live. Making more people aware equals more season pass sales, which equals more money for the park. The webcams act as a means of selling more season passes; the park has to operate them. That people believe that complaining about this stuff is "entitlement" is outrageous. Why has this become a mentality? If businesses do stuff "wrong," why do we have the right to complain, but when Kings Island messes up, its' "entitlement" and "insane?"

Nobody has talked about season pass sales. But the giant ride their building will take care of that. Nobody (reasonable) is buying their season pass based on a webcam.

Haha. I spit out my coffee. Get out of your safety bubble. There are way more people than you think.

    Thank you Brad! :)

    It's a very small minority.

Because the fact that people are responding to them on twitter and other social media about it means there is enough. That would be like McDonald’s going silent about 5% of their customer base who buys x when suddenly x isn’t available. Just weird and bad PR

This isn't a product you purchased from the park. It's a free feature on their website.

And do we still have an OFFICIAL statement from the park regarding the webcams being down and the reason?  All I see are third parties saying, "according to park sources..."  They completely botched the execution of whatever it is they're doing.

WHY do they need to issue an official statement about some webcams that only a small minority of people even check?!
