I wonder if the Park has insurance to cover a portion of the lost revenues due to an event like the water main break that was beyond their control?

The CAC card that I was given to look at by the military member this weekend had his picture, service branch, rank, pay grade on it. If this person had lost his wallet with his ID in it, it has enough information, along with the barcode and integrated circuit chip, for the people at the nearest military installation to ID him. The info on what to do with this lost ID can be found just by conducting a Google search. In my day when I enlisted, my Army ID was nothing like these are today. Yes, it had my picture, branch of service, and rank on it, but no barcode or computer chip.

Fairfield and Kings, among others marched in the parade. We wore all red uniforms with a big red K on the back of our overlay with a big red and white bear cap on our heads.

The military ID has the person's branch of service, picture, name and rank on it, along with a microchip on it. It can be returned to the nearest military installation, in this case it would be Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton (Fairborn), Ohio. They will seek out the military member who lost the ID. As a member of the Kings High School marching band, I remember that day very well as we marched in the opening day parade! Besides being the marching band that lead the parade, we also marched and played when Kings Island Drive was opened to traffic. Kings Island's design department created the banner that we used in front of our band to identify who we were. Our banner said: Kings High School Marching Band, Kings Mills, Ohio, Home of Kings Island. We also marched at Coney Island on the last day of operation before they moved up to Kings Mills, Ohio. We had lots of fun on both days. I would go on to work at the park as one of its first workers in 1972 and had fun as one of "The Original Employee's!"

In this case, I would think Lost & Found and GS would be able to locate this person by contacting the DoD from the info on the military ID and the same with the credit card info. I am sure this person would seek out L&F and his wallet would be returned to them. I know I would be making a visit to the lost and found ASAP to make a report.

The best advice would be to not put all your eggs ($$$) into just one basket. The key word is to diversify and to invest in a combination of stocks or group of stocks and mutual funds. You are in it for the long term and remember this is not a Monopoly game. The money you lose is real and not is play money. If I am planning for my future, I would seek out a professional for their advice and what is best for me based on my goals. I would put the max into your 401k plan and if you have children or might, I would invest in a college fund soon after they are born.

I have a severe allergy to shellfish, mint (No mint Juleps for me last week), and iodine. It is that reason that I do not go to Red Lobster to eat in fear of cross contamination. Everywhere I go, I always carry my Epi-Pen on me. Another item that set off my allergy was the old Army wool blankets. When I attended Job Corps, they gave us those blankets and I had to tell them to give me a different blanket. I would be gasping for air during that attack.

Now that is something Kings Island can do, hire a bunch of former Drill Sergeants, like the Airborne Ranger that I had, dress them all in their crisp, starched uniforms with Smokey Bear hats, and when they catch a line jumper, shout at them to knock off 20 pushups!

I was only 17 years old back then and working at Kings Island as a litter getter was my very first job! On opening day, I was a member of the Kings High School Marching Band and we were one of the marching bands that marched in the grand opening parade. The Kings Island design team created the banner that we used to introduce us in front of the band. The banner read: "Kings High School Marching Band, Kings Mills, Ohio, Home of Kings Island." We used that banner in all of the parades that we marched at.

What a great trip report, Devan! I agree 100% about the treatment that was being given to the American flag by the hotel. It should had been properly disposed of. The flag could had been given to the Boy Scouts and they would had disposed it in a proper manner. I have seen people everyday as the Star Spangle Banner is played as the Colors are raised just walk by without paying respect to it. As a veteran, I always stand at attention and salute the flag as it is being raised, as does other veterans that are in our department. Thanks again for the trip report and of course, for your service to our great country!

The reason it seems to me why people think that fanny packs need to be banned (in jest only) is because they are not cool, hip, or is not stylish. It kind of reminded me of young people in school didn't want to carry an umbrella for the same reason. They are very convenient to wear and holds the basic needs for the day. Plus, with the easy opening clips, you can remove it from your waist very easily without much effort. One thing, if you notice EMTs and athletic trainers, they all wear some form of a fanny pack for the essential items that they require for their job.

I remember The Beast footprints. When I first started back at the park in 1992, the paw prints ran from the entrance of The Beast in Rivertown, down past Swan Lake, past Rivertown Pizza along the walkway. I guess they wanted to give the impression that there was a "beast" roaming the park and to be on the lookout for it and to listen to its growl!

Look at Thanksgiving holiday when almost ALL stores used to be closed on that day and NO stores were open even part of that day until Friday for the start of the Christmas shopping season. Not even Kroger were open on that day until a few years back. Now almost all retail stores on open on all holidays, with the exception for Christmas with a few exceptions. I can only speak for retail stores because of the market research firm that I used to work for where we tracked all the sales data for all retail stores across the nation. Now they almost all have to stay open due to the ever thinner profit margins and must remain open and hope they can attract more shoppers during that time of the year that they depend on for their sales.

Retail stores open on all holidays, with the exception for Christmas and even then, some stores open some hours for that day. If stores were to close for Easter, it will be one less day's worth of sales.

Maybe they are bringing back the Tumble Bug for us to enjoy again?

You guys are lucky you never had to use the old out houses the State of Ohio had in their rest areas as late as the 1960's and 70's. But as a former Park Services employee that used to clean these restrooms, I had seen some guest leave a very gross mess in them. Sometime it seemed like it was done on purpose with no regard for others.

Besides the tee shirt, if you might be like me (bald), always wear a hat to protect the top of your head from the sun! I always wear it in the wave pool and the lazy river. I wear one of these boonie hats that also protect the ears and back of the neck. As always, use lots of sun screen on the head and the rest of the exposed skin.
