  1. The drive down One Team Way towards HR is open to the public. You just park in the employee lot on your way to HR for interviews or if you are going to process. Just follow the signs on where to drive and park. Thanks for sharing those pictures. I wonder if Kings Island is replacing the marquee sign in front or just repairing it? When I drove to the park to process on February 25th they were not working on the sign.

I just noticed the thread about the marquee sign being upgraded, so that answered my question.

  2. There is only one sure way NOT to get drenched on both rides and that is not to ride them. If it is a hot day, then I want to ride them to cool off. I just make sure my valuables and money are protected from getting wet. I know once jeans get soaked, it might take a while for them to dry off and if the temperature is cool, you will feel cold until they dry. But as far as which one will get you more drenched, I would say it is White Water Canyon.

  3. As a former Park Services worker, I used to clean the mens restrooms back in the early 90's and we were always assigned a specific group of restrooms to maintain for a particular area. For instance, I might be assigned to clean the mens restroom on International Street and outside the main gate and the mens restroom in the Festhaus. We took pride in our work and kept them cleaned, but we are unable to clean up a mess when we are in transit to the next restroom. Any employee that notices a restroom that needs attention, will notify their supervisor or call to report it. If a guest sees where it needs attention, just let an employee know and they will take care of it. On busy days it can be hectic, but they do their best and they all try to work together. On those days, a supervisor might be helping out and will help. Also, if any sweep worker spots something that needs attention they will try to take care of it and or notify their supervisor. But yes, some guests can be a pain in the butt, but we try not to let it get to us. Outside of keeping someone stationed in a restroom full time, not much can be done when the worker leaves and the next guest messes things up.

  4. I checked out the Ebay listings and saw a vintage 1972 Kings Island employee jacket. I have a picture of me wearing that jacket. They were very warm. I still have my PKI employee jacket from 1996, which still has my name inside it. I will have to take pictures of my gift items we bought back in 1972. I still have my 2006 Timberwolf stadium worker pass for Spirt Song. Still have my PKI employee ID from 2005.

  5. When I applied for professional type jobs during and after college, I always ask permission from the personal and professional references before I listed them and gave them to any potential employers. I used professors as to my educational background, business references as to my work and employment history and work history. I used my pastor, close business contacts, professors, and close friends as to my character. My references were contacted when I was in contention for professional positions and the United States Navy was very extensive on their investigation of my background. Besides my contacts and references, I had to summit to a very extensive FBI background check and submission of my college transcripts before I would be granted a top secret security clearance before joining the Navy in DC as a civilian employee working as a computer programmer.

  6. I remember when there used to be streetcars that ran on rails with overhead electric lines. It was closed and tracks torn up in favor of regular buses, for economical reasons. I feel this streetcar will not have enough riders for it to turn a profit when you figure in the construction and operating and maintenance costs. It is cheaper and far economical to have a regular bus built and designed to look like a streetcar but have an engine and regular wheels. When you need to expand its routes, all you have to do is add more "streetcars" to drive on the existing roads and not have to pay to construct and install new rails.

  7. Speaking of standing for the National Anthem, I wonder how many older associates that are vets know they can now render a salute (out of uniform) when the Stars and Stripes are being raised during the playing of the National Anthem? There are a few vets in Admissions and Guest Services that are vets and we render a salute when the flag is raised. We have had guests come to us and thank us for our service to our country after watching us salute the flag. My former supervisor when I was part of security was a C-130 pilot in the US Air Force.

  8. I once interviewed with Great American Insurance during my senior year at The Mount and I sent him a thank you note after the interview. During a job fair at the convention center, I met the same interviewer at the Great American booth and he remembered me and we had a very good chat. It was because of my of this professionalism that he recommended me for another position with the IT department at Great American that I did not even apply for. I had a great interview and was called back as one of the top two people in line for the job. The interviewer was very impressed with me because of this and my credentials that I received from The Mount (College of Mount St. Joseph). Note: Soon, The College of Mount St. Joseph will be known as Mount St. Joseph University due to the number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that they are offering.

  9. Sweeps might be considered as one of best "lower level" jobs in the park, but it is also one of the higher paying , seasonal jobs in the park, outside of full time positions. My very first positions at the park in 72 was as a sweep and I was a sweep again when I came back in the 90's and again in 2005. We took great pride in what we did and considered it as one of the best jobs at the park.

As in any interview you have for any job, be it at Kings Island or other companies, always send a thank you note to the interviewer.

  10. My parents raved about the good times they had on the Island Queen on the way up the Ohio River to Coney Island. They had plenty of good times riding the rides and dancing at Moonlight Gardens to the music of the big bands. My parents might had been one of those passengers, along with their parents, that arrived on the Island Queen as shown in the video.

  11. The pathway was a covered arbor that ran about where Chic-fil-a seating area is before you entered the old Hanna Barbara Land to Rivertown. The arbor was vine covered and had benches along the sides and was a nice place to sit and relax and people watch.

  12. I was not the poster that first started this topic. TTD 120 140 started this topic by stating: Toll booth employee at Busch Gardens Williamsburg charged with a felony for giving out free parking and then giving the link, which mention the person's name and his charge of what he is accused of. I then responded after the first responder call him an idiot in their one word reply. I said what theft is and it does not matter what it is, from something as little as giving out a free soft drink to giving out parking passes, they are all forms of theft. Then in this case, it is enough cause for the person to be arrested for. That is all I said. The park does not have to have a person convicted of any type of theft before they fire them. If as Terpy said, "If I had been arrested for stealing 126 dogs from here," it would had been like in this article, what the reporter had gathered from the police report. Terpy would had started the topic just as this topic was started with a link to that news article.

But rather than others commenting on this topic as it was started, they took issue with ME as if I had this person already convicted. The first reply to this topic just had one word in their reply, idiot, which seemed to fit that case. I then replied with what a theft is and if it warrants it a person is arrested, as in this case. The nature of being arrested is a charge that then must be proven in a court of a law. The news articled that was linked stated the charge, the amount of the items the person named is accused of stealing.

Like I stated above, rather than others giving their general comments on this topic, the topic seems to be that it was ME that stated this guy was guilty and I became the topic of this discussion. It is one thing in a funny kind of way to kid me after I commented (I was one of many) on the firing of Dusty Baker and how I would save the Reds money if I was named manager, but to comment in a perceived negative fashion on this topic is going to far, IN MY HONEST OPINION. If that is the case, I am done with giving my input on any topic on this board. I can now see why there are lots of users that are members but do not engage in any topics on this board and why active members are no longer active on this board. I guess I will now joint their ranks.

  13. I am clearly stating what was said in the article. This worker was arrested and charged with felony embezzlement for giving away parking passes that he was not authorized to. In no way did I state that this person has been found guilty of anything, just charged and arrested. When a person is arrested, it is because you have been accused of doing something criminal. As was the case with this. That is all I stated. I gave the analogy of giving away a soft drink or giving a discount to a person when you were not authorized to do as committing a form of theft. And any form of theft is by definition a breach of trust. Any employee is subject to termination and or legal action taken against you if you give away a product of any sort. That is in our handbook at KI and at any place you would be employed at. The employer does not have to have you arrested and charged and convicted before they terminate your employment, unless the accusation warrants it. I felt that I did not have to respond to the topic with a detailed paragraph when two lines would do. I stand by what I said when this worker was charged and arrested after giving away 126 parking passes. Being charged and arrested is by definition being accused of a crime, which in this case is giving away 126 parking passes. Now his fate is up to the jury when a trial date is set and convened. Now if you feel that I have this worker already convicted of this crime, then this worker being called an idiot by a user, this user has found him to be an idiot without a finding of fact. As far as I am concerned, I gave my opinion and am done with commenting further on this topic.

  14. Terpy, I stated neither. This worker was arrested and charged with a felony. This worker gave away parking passes that he was not authorized to do and that is a crime and the worker was arrested and charged for it. If any worker gives away any item, be it a free soft drink, hot dog or a discount of any sort that they are not authorized to do, that is a breach of trust and the employer would consider it a form of theft and the worker dismissed for cause if discovered. Any employee that handles money as part of their job is taught to be honest and that any type of giving away the company's product is a form of theft and you would be dismissed. That is the same at any area of employment. It would be the same if I was working the sales window and gave away 100 season passes. I would be charged with giving away over $9,000 worth of Kings Island season passes. I would loose my job and be arrested and sent to jail awaiting trial. It is the same with this worker. That is a breach of trust, be it worth $3 or over 3,000 in the case of this worker. It has happen here and in this case, at Busch Gardens. So it does not matter if they stole $3 for a soft drink by giving it away or over $3,000 in parking passes. Theft is theft. As for the penalty, it will be carried out when a jury finds them guilty, just like it happen here several years ago when an employee was charged and found guilty of embezzlement. The opinion that I gave is correct. Any type of theft is a breach of trust and any employer has the right to terminate your employment immediately and if warranted in this case, also arrested and charged with felony embezzlement.
