  1. It is about time that Mason decided to improve that interchange. While they are at it, put in a left turn signal when turning left off of Western Row into the back entrance of Kings Island. Mike
  2. During my years at school, we would pass messages the old fashion way - by passing a note and hoping the teacher did not catch it and read it out loud. Even when I attended the Mount in the late 80's we were not allowed to use a calculator in our math classes. We had to know how to do all the math problems by hand. Mike
  3. I would call the park and ask them that question.
  4. I worked at the park when both the Partridge Family and the Brady Bunch were taped at Kings Island. It was a fun experience watching all the actors taping their scenes and and watching it on TV. It really brought back the fun that I had working at the park. I loved watching the all white uniforms that all the litter getters wore!! White shirts, pants, golf cap and black hush puppies. Mike
  5. The factory on the east side is what is left of the Peter's Cartrige factory. The King Powder Co. produced the gun powder and Peter's produced the shot for the weapons. That hut pictured is just one of what there used to be. The is a history book that includes lots of the history of the area. The Mason Library has a copy of it there and it is very informative. If you google the area along the river, almost all of the old road is no longer visable due to the overgrowth and development. All that is seen now is what is left of the "Kings Mills Road" from the Foster's bridge to just about where The Beast is. It still serves the several homes that are still located there. The roads that are visiable are located in KI's back area and are fenced in with no tress passing signs posted. I was ask about some stories that I might share with everybody. As you know there was lots of rail traffic that served the company and the residents of Kings Mills. With the rail traffic, there were lots of instances of trains being derailed. Once such incident involved a circus train. I was always warned to watch out for the lions and tigers that escaped from the wreck. I always looked over my shoulder whenever I was hiking in the area. I am sure that was only a story....lions, tigers and bears oh my.... Mike
  6. During the hey day of the King Powder Co., the road known as "Kings Mills" ran all along the west side of the Little Miami from Foster's all the way to the old dam at Kings Mills. The powder plant had huts all along the river spread out to prevent them all from blowing up when accidents happen. The only portion of that road that still exists runs from the bridge at Foster's along the river lined with homes that lays beneath where The Beast is now. The rest of the road is overgrown with weeds and trees. You can spot what is left of the road at the bottom of the hill at Kings Mills. Just look to the left as you come to the horse shoe curve and straight ahead just before you turn onto the bridge. This road runs about a mile to the old dam and all the way to Fosters. But like I said it is all overgrown. All that can be seen now are foundations of the old sheds and bits and pieces of the old asphaut pavement. There were also old sheds above the river in the land where the Lion Country was. When I worked in the maint department in 74, we rehabed some of the old buildings for use by the animals and for storage. I remember when I was hiking in the area in the 60's of being scared to death when I spoted a black racer. I think it was more scared of me! The last time that I hiked along the river was in the winter of 72. I crossed over at this fence at the edge of the homes leading to Foster's, hiked up Soc/Fosters Rd to Western Row and back to Kings along Kings Island Dr. I only wish I had taken pictures of the land and buildings along the old road. Mike
  7. When I was "young" and had hair, I used to hike through out the area before Kings Island was built and hike from the back area along the Little Miami River just below where The Beast is. Mike
  8. I think the parking lot is in a dire need of being resurfaced and new parking lines painted. I do not see a parking garage being constructed due to the expense and taken away of the view it would create. One thing I would build are new parking toll booths. As it is now we are at the mercy of the weather and my biggest fear has always been a huge gust of wind blowing the money out of the cash drawer. Mike
  9. Before Kings Island was annex by Mason, the township and county provited all the services such as road, fire, police, water, ect. There was no service that Mason could provide that KI was already receiving. All Mason sees is the $$$$ they can get by taxing all the income of all employees, both full and seasonal. This is nothing but greed on the part of Mason. They grab all buisinesses and then tax them. Mason alsos nix pix that they annex. They grabed KI but left out the hamlet of Kings Mills. When Mason annexed Kings Island and the surrounding areas, they knew going in that THEY will be responsible for providing ALL services and pay for them. Now some greedy members of council are crying about this increased cost and are threatening that an amusment tax must be charged to make up the difference. I have an ideal: How about Kings Island succed from Mason and rejoin the township? Mike

I had cervical fusion surgery performed on some disks in my neck and had a metal screws and rod inserted and there is NO WAY I will ride the roller coasters. The metal looping coasters jerk my neck way to much and I do not want to risk further injury. I would ask my doctor before I would attempt riding them if I were you. Mike
  11. The park is closed to the general public and season pass holders on GE day. It is a private event and is sold out. Mike
  12. Unless the policy has changed, you could re-enter at any front gate entry. This would prevent people from entering again without being checked due to the checker being very busy stamping hands. Mike
  13. Also, season pass holders must have their hand stamped if they leave and re-enter the park. Passes can only be scanned once each day. Mike
  14. Why Hillary of course! But on a possitive note, that concert supports all the families and children of vets that have been injured or killed in action. Mike Airborne - All The Way
  15. At least he his not like that two faced carpet bagger from New York. I think he did a great job as mayor of NYC during and after 9/11. Mike Airborne --All The Way
  16. When you pay your $10 ($15 for preferred) they give you a receipt and you give that at the toll plaza to reenter without paying again. Season passes w/parking can just use it as many times as you wish to reenter. Mike
  17. The Kroger stores have several divisions, each with different sales than here. The Cinci/Datyton, Louisville, Mich, and eastern Ohio are all different divisions. I would think that the ads are marketed towards the Kroger stores farther from the Cinci/Dayton area. If there is any question on the prices that are being advertised, just give KI a call and ask. Mike
  18. Pass processing opens at 9:00 am until closing. If any questions, just call ahead. Mike
  19. I know just what you mean. I remember waiting 3 hours to ride The Bat and my head was really burnt to a crisp! I was thankfull that I did get a chance to ride it before it was dismantled. But now due to a having a cervical fusion performed on my neck, I can no longer ride and enjoy the thrill of the coasters. I tried to ride the FOF and decided my health was to precious to risk. Mike
  20. I will make sure that I am there to see Sean!!! AIRBORNE!!!
  21. This was one day when it seemed that the buses out numbered all the cars in the parking lot. I really feel for the people in charge of all the students in their groups that have to make sure that they do not leave anyone in their group behind. They sure do not want to be 100 miles away and discover that that they have a "Left home alone" sitituation like in the movie! Mike
  22. This reminds me of the grad nights that the park used to have. I won't mention what took place at the park, but it was wild at the various motels. I used to work at a motel at Fields Ertle and the students would pack the rooms and drink and fight. We had to have the cops come and made them dump their beers and even made some arrests. I do not ever remember acting that way when I was in high school. I went to my grad night in 73 and had a great time enjoying Kenny Rodgers and the Climax Blues Band perform and got several autographs from Kemy and the Climax Blues Band. Mike
  23. Maybe it will be a funnel cake with candles on it!!! Mike
  24. The best thing is to call the park at 1-800-288-0808 and ask what the procedure and any fees that are involved in converting the 2006 to a 2007 pass. They should be able to give you the answers that you need. Hope this has helped. Mike
