  1. I was a big fan of Coney Island and as a life long resident of Kings Mills, I was thrilled that they decided to relocate right next door. I would sit in our lunch room at Kings High and watch the park take shape and could not wait until they opened in 72. Kings Island was my very first job and I have had loads of fun at the park ever since then! Mike
  2. Those are really great pictures and looks like it will be a fun show to watch and enjoy!! Can't wait to see all of the other great shows that are planned! MIke
  3. Just remember that this is Ohio and the weather can change from hour to hour so if you do not like it, just wait and it will change.
  4. I remember the rotor very well. It was always neat to try to lift your legs or head away from the wall but the G force created would constantly push it back. I am glad that I never had anybody upchuck when I rode the ride. By today's standard the ride did not produce a huge thrill that the mega coasters have today. But it was a fun ride and the lines were never huge with a long wait time. Mike
  5. Is that the Gateway? I have a Philips 26 inch HD WS TV monitor. I can switch between watching cable tv and working on the pc at the same time. it is great playing games on it. Mike
  6. Thanks Dane! This looks great on my 26 inch WS HD monitor. Mike
  7. Do you remember when Kings Island used to serve brats, mets with 'kraut and German potatoe salad and be able to wash it down with a cold beer in either the beer gardens or the Festhouse? I would like to see some German fare brought back. Mike
  8. Back in 1972 when the park first opened Humble Pie was in that location. In the building where Sky Line is now on International Street, Kahn's had a shop where you could watch them make hot dogs and they served hot dogs and other types of food in their restaurant. All back in 1972. Mike
  9. Has anybody noticed the cemetary that is located on the north parking lot? How many parks can lay claim to having their own cemetary? Mike
  10. I do not know if it is haunted or not but the bed and breakfast in Kings Mills used to be a funeral home. I remember when I was a kid and attended a wake and decided to go exploring. I went upstairs and opened up a door and went inside room that was full of caskets. I guess I used to watch way too many horror flicks and I was sure there was a body inside one of the caskets just waiting to open up the lid and pop up. Let me tell you I was scared to death! Mike
  11. My parents would always tell me about their time they had at Coney Island and the trips they made on the old stern wheeler Island Queen taking them back and forth from the public landing to Coney. They even said just the trip on the Queen was worth it. I remember being at Coney on the very last day of operation before moving to Kings Island the very next year. I was in the Kings High School band and we were invited to perform at Coney and again on the opening season at KI. I used to sit in the lunch room watching the park being constructed and could not wait to enjoy the park and most of all, work there. I remember the very long lines in front of the employment office in the very dead of winter waiting for the chance of applying and working at the park. I got my wish in June of 72 and I have been having fun every since. I remember all the rides and my first trip on The Racer. I do not know why but I always had a fear of roller coasters but after my first time going down the first hill, I was hooked for life. I had a blast riding The Bat before it was shut down and and received the worse sun burn on my head. That was when I knew my hair was getting thin. I remember eating the choclate covered nutty frozen banana on a stick; eating LaRosa's pizza, pop and beer stands every where; The best time was watching the dare devils, the Flying Laliondas (sp?) climing the Eifle Tower and on a wire across the fountain. But most of all I enjoyed watching and listening to the clown band. As a saxophone player I so much wanted to be part of that band. They along with Yogi and the gang attended various functions representing Kings Island. What a joy to be part of the park through the ages. Mike
  12. Before CF took over, there were various types of shorts and pants being worn. Lots were wearing cargo shorts and pants, various lenghs of shorts, different shades, some pants and sorts worn far below the waist like what is worn on the street. It was hard to find styles that would fit if you required a XXL or larger at a price within reason. It is good to have them provided like they were in the past. This way we all have the same style that would match. As for the shirts, I felt the blue shirts did not breath and were hot. With the uniform being provided, will we still have to laundry them ourselves? What type of jacket will be provided? I hated the thin wind breakers they provided last year and wore my old, much warmer blue jacket from 96. Mike
  13. Yes, thanks for posting the new map! Looking forward to the future!! Mike
  14. One thing you can count on iron workers is to do their job fast! They really know what they are doing. Now if we can only put together those darn "easy to assemble" furnature. Mike
  15. I liked the different music that was played in the park. International Street had French style accordian music with a European flair. I listen to all the music while working at the park that I knew the order of all the music that was played. When the Smurfs were feartured in HB, I knew all the lines that was sung from the Smurf's TV show in that area. I am waiting on the music that is chosen when the season opens in April. Mike
  16. I really enjoyed watching the Brady Bunch and it brought back good memories of that time period. I was noticed the different costumes that all the employees were wearing. It was good to see the different styles of uniforms based on the theme area they were working in. As a litter gitter from that time period, I remember the all white uniforms that we wore. White pants, white shirt, white golf cap and black hush puppies. Did you see the litter gitter working in the back ground while the Brady's were having lunch? I had a blast working at Kings Island when they were there there filming. Great job for posting this! Mike
  17. A big crowd does not bother me. The busier I am at the front gate just makes the day go much faster. Like it was mentioned before, BOF days are far more hectic to work but that is why we make the big bucks, right??? Mike
  18. There is no way Kings Island would have a re-entry ban as it would be a guest relations nightmare. Even if it was for the purpose of baning smoking, it would not be able to be enforced. There is no way to tell who was leaving to smoke or go to their car for lunch. There is a smoking area as you walk to the FOF and in other areas of the park. They just need to be located where the smoke will not drift for others to smell. If smoking would to be banned then all employees should be trained on how to instruct guests about the ban. Just do not do it without thought of how guests might react. Mike
  19. When I was working in the season pass processing center, we were told that the temporary pass would be exchanged for the regular season pass. It was just matter of scanning the temporary pass with the new pass and the process would only take a couple minutes. They would not be transfered at the main gate. There should be some sort of an anouncement on just how and when the process will take place. Mike
  20. Did Marureen mention if the season pass center would have any hours during the week? Last year we had special hours during the week in April to process passes. Mike
  21. If my memory serves me right, the trainer that was mauled by the lion was all by himself and had an urgent call of nature and could not wait. He made the mistake of getting out of his jeep. I have been in the parking lot during a storm and did not have to be informed that a lightening storm was in the area. I had enough sense to stay in my car and not become a lightening rod. Mike
  22. I have not heard anything yet. I woud check out the web site at pki.com and click the season pass icon and sign up for the season pass holders news letter to be sent to your email address. They will have events listed and the dates for the various season pass perks. It should have events listed on the calendar also. You can also give the park a call and ask if any special events are planned. Mike
  23. With me working at the admissions at the front gate, I would see guests smoking as they come through the turnstyles and would politly tell them about the policy and mention the closest smoking area. One of the problems that I see are the lack of announcments of the smoking policy. I would like to see some sort of a sign and more announcments of the smoking policy especially at the front gate. It begins on the web site and in the media. Just do not wait until the very start of the season before any decision to ban smoking at the park. Mike
  24. I would not put it past CF to ban smoking at Kings Island in order to comply with this new law. I just think if they were to do this they should announce it before the season starts. I am a non-smoker and do not like it when someone else's smoke invades my lungs. If there is not a ban I would like to see the smoking in selected areas strickly enforced. Mike
  25. As it has been mention there were plans to build a new camp ground before the sale of the park took place but CBS put all of that and other budget items on hold. Kings Island owns all the land from Kings High School down to the Little Miami River all the way past the water park. I am sure that Cedar Fair is looking at this and other improvements during the next several years. With the debt load that they took on it will has to be based on sound economic forcasts. Mike
