  1. I used to like walking down the path across the pond going into River Town and watching all the geese. Next to that I liked sitting on the bench under the arbor tunnel going into River Town. Mike
  2. I received my year book earlier in the week also. I am pictured in the admission section. Mike
  3. Don't y'all know that the Little Miami has over flowed its banks and reached Kings Island? I have a good source that said that a guy named Noah has been hired to build a new attraction, a brand new boat ride...The web cam is proof in the pudding. Details at 11. Mike
  4. I would love to be a fly on the wall and listen to all the discussions on who wanted to buy the parks and how much they were willing to spend. I agree that there were only a limited number of investors that were willing and able to finance just a huge undertaking. It was clear that near the end, CBS did not want to invest in the parks and they no longer fit in their plans or business interests. I am glad that Cedar Fair aquired all the former Paramount Parks and will invest in them. I would think the next five years or so we will see the direction and how we (Paramount Parks) will fit in their long term plans and goals. I know I am really looking forward to being part of the Cedar Fair family and expecting a really great 2007 season. Mike
  5. There was a second story in the Swiss Haus that was used to sale merchandise. There was also a working juke box and I used to always play Celebration by Three Dog Night. It had a really great sound system. Oh the good old days. Mike
  6. Did it look anything like this? Seriously, though, My Dad once told me that the tower was built using Boeing Chinook helicopters, and not tower cranes. Is that how they did it? I do not recall helicopters being used to construct the tower but regular crane and iron workers putting one steel beam at a time. Iron workers work really fast once all the foundation work has been completed and they have no fear of heights. I only recall seeing helicopters being used to lift heavy ac units and when constructing power line towers and TV/radio towers. Then the type of copers used are Sky Cranes. Helos cost lots of labor dollars and usage fees to use. A Chinook can lift a steel beam but i do not recall a whole section of tower being raised in this manner or with a tower crane. Mike
  7. In the admission department, we had the following shifts: Open: 8:45 to 2:15 Early: 9:00 to 3:30 Split: 10:30 to 6:30 Close: 3:00 to close All day: 9:15 to close These are for the front gate and not for the parking tolls or season pass processing. Mike
  8. I used to sit in the lunch room at Kings watching the tower being constructed but I have no pictures of it. I have pictures of the park in 1972 that I am in the process scanning and will post as soon as I complete the scans. Mike
  9. I used to love to ride thrill rides like Firehawk but after I had a disk in my neck fused and pins inserted, I can no longer ride those fun rides. I can not risk my neck being jerked around and causing further disk damage. Mike
  10. If anyone stays through out the season, odds are they will be promoted to supervisor when people start leaving for school and or quit. Mike
  11. I like the very last car for the hang time. If it is not available, then I would prefer to ride in the very front. Mike
  12. In regards to an employee that is 18 years or older, you do not have to take a break if you do not want to but minors under 18 MUST take a break or KI will be written up. I can not think of a manager or supervisor saying they do not have to give an 18 year old a break. In a pinch I might do it if I was working less than 5 hours but there is no way I wil not take a break. In besides, who wants to miss out on all that great food and prices over at Oscars!! Mike
  13. Boomerang Bay is included with all passes at Kings Island. There is a special season pass entry gate at the Bay for you to enter. Mike
  14. If I was Kings Island, I would tell Mason that we will not hire their policemen to patrol inside the park. KI has their own police force to watch over the parking lot and inside the park. If the park expects that tax increasse to cause a drop in attendence and revenue, then I would do whatever I could to cut costs and would start with the gravy overtime that is paid to the Mason Police. My pastor is on the Mason City Council and I will let him know that we do not like it. I only wish the employees that pay that tax would have a say in how it is spent but we don't. I am sure that GWL did note expect an admissions tax would be considered when they made plans to build the hotel/water park complex. Heck, I would not put it past Mason that they told GWL that "...we have no plans on charging an admission/hotel tax..." (wink, wink). Mike
  15. While that Kings Island is in the City of Mason, the park recides in the Kings Local Schools and pays taxes to the Kings Schools. That is the one thing that Mason could not change and that is the district in which the parks belongs. Mason only recieves income taxes from the employees. Mikw
  16. Mason is a nice, safe place to live and raise a family but you do not have over tax the residents and and employees that work there. Mason does maintain their roads but you do not have to have fancy gas like lights to light the streets. Mason has one of the highest tax rates in the area and is only growning larger. Now they see a way to drain more tax dollars from the group of people that have no say in the matter except these people might just decide to stay away. Mike
  17. Kings Island is located in the City of Mason but the mailing address is Kings Island, Oh 45034 which is served from the Kings Mills Post Office. Prior to Mason taking over, all services (fire and police) were provided by Deer Field Township and Warren County. The nearest fire station is in Kings Mills (1 mile) but is served by the Mason FD which is at least 5 miles away. Mason wants to grab and steal all land in the township for the increased income tax while reducing the tax base for the township. Mason does not provide any services that could had been provided by both the township and county. They have the nerve to complain about all the increasted traffic is causing an increased strain on their infrastructure and then want to tax us to the hilt to pay for it. I say this to Mason: Stop paying millions to buy a golf course that you do not need; Don't spend millions on a skate board park that is not needed. Return to your middle income base that you used to be rather than the Beverly Hills elit snob that you have become. Mike
  18. This is so typical of the City of Mason (and others) that think that by raising taxes they will increase revenues. But in fact the opposite is true. They will find attendence will decrease at the park, hotels and other tourist driven industries. It is bad enough that we all must pay tribute (income taxes) to Mason but now they demand more of the share of the pie to pay for their fancy infrastructure. I have lived in Kings Mills all my life and know first hand how Mason has grown into the snob of a city that they are now. They have to be better than all the rest and have built fancy infrastructure and a huge city community center with pool and have constantly raised the taxes that people pay in order to pay for it. Now Mason wants to reduce their taxes and charge admission taxes on all guests to pay for all this. I stand by Kings Island in their attempt to block this. As a tax payer and employee of Kings Island I say enough is enough. Mike
  19. I am glad that more shows are being added. Thanks for the update Maureen..... Mike P.S. I have not gotten stuck in quicksand at Kings Island since that last time back in 1974!
  20. 1972: $6.00 admission and $0.50 cents parking..... NOW THOSE WERE THE DAYS!! Mike
  21. In the lost and found, we have a HUGE collection of cell phones of all brands and services. Mike
  22. I found $60 one weekend in front of the games in Coney Mall. Mike
  23. I did not work on the tower it self but when I was a litter gitter back in 1972 through 1975 but when we were assigned the arera under and around the tower it was our job to go walk up to the 50 foot level and sweep. We rode the elevator up to the top and do like wise. I always liked having that area because I could go up and "chill out" and enjoy the view. I know there had always been plans to put some sort of a restuarant up on the 50 foot level but that was shelved. When that teen fell during a grad night, the decision was made to close the 50 foot level. Mike
