  1. Half-priced beer at KI, aka regularly priced beer. Bottoms up!
  2. Evening Safari and Rivers of Light are supposed to be on line sometime before 2017.
  3. The show quality between the 2 resorts makes it difficult to believe they're both from the same company. That said, while I prefer DLR, we're heading back down to WDW here in a few weeks for our annual pilgrimage. We'll see how this FP+ thing works.
  4. He never mentioned that, but in her last 6 months or so there she had developed a nasty habit of hitting and rubbing her nose against the tank in the rearmost pool (opposite the show pool). Far too often in those last few months was she kept in one of the tiny side pools between shows.
  5. I have a buddy who was one of her trainers at SFWoA, and he said her behaviors there were obvious to him before she was moved, but brass didn't want to hear of it. Glad to hear she's doing better.
  6. SO they lied to me when they claimed their biggest whale was getting ready to splash me? I can also tell the difference between a male and female orca. They've done it before. It was more common in the AB days tho. What Terpy said, she is happily at San Diego. Much better orca now than she was when she lived with Six Flags. I got tons of pictures of her with her new friends Uh...Shouka is at SeaWorld. San Diego. Has been for quite some time. New Six Flags management did that among its first....moves. Holy smokes, this happened in August of last year??? Where have I been? Glad to see she's happy. The underhanded way they got her here to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure is really sad.
  7. I think it's a discussion worth having, but I'd be far more concerned at what's happened to Shouka (a former Ohio gal!) out at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom before I'd be bludgeoning Sea World.
  8. So, what you're saying is... win / win?
  9. 35 years ago this year, Jack Hanna arrived at the small, outdated, and somewhat dilapidated Columbus Zoo as its new director. The young zookeeper teamed up with Columbus' Parks Chief Mel Dodge, setting out to transform the small park into the best zoo in the country. They succeeded. This fall, the zoo is celebrating Jack's 35th "Hanna-versiary", and they managed to plus-up their already fabulous "Fall Fest", a one-weekend event celebrating early autumn. (Note: This is not their Halloween event, Boo! at the Zoo, will take place one two weekends later in October). Upon entering the park, you are greeted with a plethora of carved pumpkins in large tents, as the pumpkin carving contest is a large part of the Fall Fest event. After a quick stop at the petting zoo (one of my kids favorites)... ..We hopped on the CP Huntington train for a loop around North America. We made our way over to Polar Frontier to visit the zoo's three polar bears. Their underwater viewing tunnel is absolutely spectacular... Fast forward through the rest of North America (as regular visitors, we don't typically photograph, or even visit, each exhibit on every trip) After a quick lunch in the Congo River Market, we settled in to watch the zoo's famous gorillas for a bit. Including a visit with the first gorilla born in captivity: Colo! Bonobos were next.. And some Red River Hogs Okapi.. Do these stripes make my butt look big? A short jaunt over to Australia... To visit the Lorikeet aviary: File photo, since I stayed with the stroller outside the aviary And on to visit the 'Roos! As naptime drew near, we had just a few things left to check off, leaving a large portion of the zoo unexplored for the day. A ride on the 1914 Mangles Illions carousel is always required! And onto the Pioneer Village, set up just for Fall Fest. Music provided by the "Hastily Assembled Bluegrass Band." Candle making demo: Pottery: And woodcarving: Can't leave without saying "hi" to the manatees! ..and Flamingos! And who could forget the largest elephant in North America? Hi, Hank! And on our way out the door, we had to stop a check out the tigers in Asia Quest. This is one of the cubs born last year... The zoo had a litter of 2 last spring, and a litter of 4 this spring! There are currently 9 tigers at the zoo. The Columbus Zoo is great no matter when you visit, and I concur with the rest that say it's at least among the best, if not THE best, in the country. Their special seasonal events (Eggs, Paws, & Claws, Boo! at the Zoo, Wildlights, and Fall Fest) make a visit that much more fun.

  11. Some of PREMiERdrum's ex-girlfriends may argue that this record has already been claimed.
  12. Shoot, it wasn't all that long ago that the Ohio State fair ran 17 days.
  13. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/public/2013/08/05/state-fair-attendance-record.html The weather for the entire run of the fair was absolutely perfect. Jenn and I took the kids on the first Sunday, when... It was busy, but manageable.
  14. I was thinking the same thing about Flight Deck becoming The Bat, along with an Action Zone retheme... Amusement Dark, though, still doesn't seem like the most likely candidate for a freshened AZ... The Hallows? The Graveyard? Black Forest?
  15. The leak video plays perfectly into the overall job of the PR department: Build up anticipation and buzz for the announcement. The layout, however detailed, is really but a small piece of the overall announcement, especially where the GP is concerned. The only recent leak that has really spoiled an announcement, IMO, was Maverick's full artwork, schematics, and specs leaking out a day or so ahead of the announcement. Now THAT was a spoiler!
  16. Morning Newscasts are about a different vibe. They also have multiple hours to to fill. With a live event in the morning they can check in for 2 mins during each news block (30 min blocks). They can do that every block from 4/5 am till 7/8/9am (when ever they are off). For a news crew to do a live hit from the park for a press conference, it would take way to much time/money/effort for such a little play back. They are better off sending a crew (or just a cameraman no reporter) to get to Cover video of the set up. Grab the 10 second quote. and be done with it. For a live hit, the station needs to send out the live truck (transmitter), run the cables to the part of the park where its happening. Get a signal, either bounce the signal from sat or ground back to the station. All of this plus the crew to run it. 2-3 people for set up. Plus the hard part of getting it to fit into the show. A newscast is sort of like catching lightening. You work really hard and its over in 30 mins. A live hit press conference never run for what you expect. You expect them to go for 3 mins and it takes 30. Just does not work for a nightly news crew. If this was a major breaking news conference (city going bankrupt, etc) then its a different story. But for an amusement park announcement, sorry, I dont see a news crew wasting a night time broadcasting this live... A very well versed synopsis! -PREMiERdrum, who does this for a living. Nightside is a very, very different animal. You fight every second to keep your viewers engaged, and thus, awake. Morning news is light, passive viewing, as your audience is getting ready, making breakfast, getting the kids out the door, etc. Late news is appointment viewing, often seen from the bedroom, and the clock is your biggest enemy. Now, the morning after the announcement, I expect plenty of morning show liveshots from the park. But that night? It won't take much in the way of spot news to pull live assets away from Mason.
  17. Remember... a few weeks before big announcements, both Cedar Point and Kings Island are known for their Media Invitations... Giant, tagged bolt for Diamondback, Moonshine Bottle in "wooden" trunk for Shoot the Rapids, and "Wanted" posters for Maverick have all made it to my desk.
  18. $200,000 bond? That's awfully low, considering the charges.
  19. It is VERY nice... the current is slow, the area has its own music track, the landscaping around the river is tall, and the drinks are good (and, for the venue, quite affordable). The lazy river is strictly enforced as "adults only". There are big signs on the boardwalk leading up onto the island that say that "Children are only allowed to 'check in' with their parents periodically, but aren't allowed to stay for any length of time." It's arguably my favorite part of the park. Being right in the shadows of the Sea Dragon certainly helps.
  20. Last night, the Friends of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium hosted their annual Zoombezi Bash! fundraiser. Your ticket includes admission to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Jungle Jack's Landing, and Zoombezi Bay for the afternoon. At 7pm, when the park starts to close, you can check in and receive your wristband and drink tickets. It's important to note that this event is adult only, which gives you a rare shot at this park without thousands of screaming kids. The event takes place within Zoombezi Bay, at the park's adult only, 21 and over lazy river (yes, they have an adult only lazy river. It's heavenly.), and the Crocktail Creek bar area nestled in the center of it. A buffet dinner is provided, a live band is rockin', and the bar tenders were always willing to pour. After the meal was completed, members from the Columbus Zoo's promotions department paid a visit with several different animals. These animals aren't the ones you'll see on exhibit at the zoo, rather, they're the ones who tour with Jack Hanna and the zoo's promotions staff, serving as "animal ambassadors" for their species. The party lasted until 11pm, at which time you were able to take a leisurely walk through Jungle Jack's Landing, and even portions of the zoo, before returning to your car. This event was a blast - and raised a good bit of money towards a great cause. The Friends of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium describe themselves as: The historic Sea Dragon roller coaster at Jungle Jack's Landing rises just beyond Crocktail Creek, site of Zoombezi Bash Crocktail Island, the bar and sun deck nestled within Crocktail Creek, the park's adult only lazy river Delilah, a 9 month old gray Kangaroo, works the crowd with a member of the zoo's promotions team Mrs. PREMiERdrum spends some time with Delilah Fletcher, a 5 month old Fennec Fox Thor, an African Servil
  21. Zoombezi Bay has been doing this in their wave pool for several years... it draws a great crowd, and is quite a lot of fun. Good call by KI.
  22. Or, I guess you could say, until we get some real evidence, reading this thread is like.. Wait for it... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) Watching grass grow.
  23. I would venture to guess that this material would be delivered and staged near the greenhouses, close to the old Wild Animal Habitat and SOB site.
  24. It makes perfect sense... 70 to 68 to 79 back to 70, or 70 up to the PA turnpike and back onto 70... Both go into Columbus, where 71 is a straight shot southwest. I've used that route from Columbus to NYC and Columbus to Baltimore many times.
