    Vortex

I already knew all the stuff in the video, but it was really funny to watch anyway. Thanks for the link. And no, Vortex is NOT sinking, as far as any of us know.
  2. Even though I've never been to Conneaut, I've been keeping track of it, hoping that it will stay open long enough for me to visit, but I guess it's just not meant to be. I don't know, after hearing about this, I just kind of felt empty. Being a wooden coaster person, of course I wonder what this will do to Blue; I doubt anybody can move her let alone keep her open, so what to do and where to go from here? I just hope she doesn't rot or something. A side note to self: Immortalization, commence now. We've got a beauty to keep.
  3. I'll go ahead and add mine, seeing as how I'm on cloud nine just knowing the park is open. And they're kind of all over the board... --Sticking my boyfriend on Sonny, even though he's loopless, just so he can see how rough it really is --Being able to go whenever I want -- or something like that (my mom SHOULD be getting me a Maxx for my birthday, and if she doesn't, I will track her down) --Going to Geauga Lake with my family (family event=I have to go) and praying that A: I can get a thrill or two there and I don't long for KI too much and B: my family doesn't fight the entire time --Coney Mall, Coney Mall! You fill me with sweet sugary goodness!!! I look forward to riding Racer and Vortex and IJ and Firehawk when it finally opens! --When (not if) my mom gets my season pass, sticking it in everybody's faces and rubbing it in cause I can go to parks now! --The usual Cedar Point trip with the church people (though I need an extra one because we always go on the most packed day in the year) in which I will try to persuade them all to go to Kings Island and fail miserably --The fountains and the Eiffel Tower. Something about that...ahhhh. --I wanna also hear the new music they'll have over the intercom. Unless they have the same stuff, in which I will just soak it up like I do every year. --The Scrambler. I don't know WHERE it was in October. --Finally, collecting more park maps and putting them all over my dorm walls in August! That was a bit off track (pun intended for my sake) and I'm not even on meds yet this morning...
  4. We should have a party when I'm allowed as well (I'm only one year younger). And I wrote my song...I wrote it down, but all I can remember right now is something about baking Tex a cake and it burning down everything around me...ahem. But yes, Vortex is the awesome.
  5. You don't know how bad I'm trying to hide from my roommate right now, because I'm laughing SO HARD. You don't know the half of how I spend my time. *points to avatar* Anyway... *laughs harder* Ahem... *laughs* Oh, this is so off track, pun intended... Hahahahahahahahahaha. Anyway. First point, Vortex is a girl on her profile, yay! That makes me happy! And wait, Racer and Beastie... I always thought there just might be something between them, but which one is the girl? (is finding it VERY hard to imagine Racer that way) To me, I always thought King Cobra. In my head, Vortex was too...innocent. But maybe I'm just innocent myself. To quote Racer from O/T: "Ahem...(clears throat) we don't think about it and neither should you." Anyway. Yeah. Other than the fact that I just realized it's Vortex's birthday, that totally just made my day. Edit: If Racer and Beastie got divorced, I CLAIM RACER. SERIOUSLY. You do not need to know all the details, I JUST CLAIM HIM.
  6. Aw, I wanna write a song! *goes off somewhere to write Vortex a birthday song* Come on, something less cheesy than "Happy Birthday to Vortex..." I knew it was twenty years ago this year, but I didn't know what day. This totally makes my day. Happy birthday... All right! Song time! (runs off)
  7. Yay! *throws confetti all over the new page* While I think, yeah, it could be more personalized, it looks good to me! Oh, and when we were on 275 E the other day and getting ready to exit on 71, the P word was gone from the Kings Island sign. (Don't know if this is old news or if it's always been gone...but I just moved.)
  8. Reliable? Though with the recent rumors that something's going on at Dorney...? I can't say -- never been to Dorney, so... And I doubt that Geauga Lake is going down the tube (slides)...in more than one way. They've got the water park, which is a huge asset, but I doubt they would just raze the rides side. Then again, that is just doubting. I'm not an official; all I can do is give my opinion. (I do believe there would be more than one person mad if they did raze it.)
  9. I got one of those for my mom! She's a KI nut like me and I got to go this year and she didn't, so I brought her back one. (This is also my first year at college, so she gets to remember me as well as the park when she looks at it.)
  10. I keep all of my coaster stuff in a notebook (I call it my scrapbook but it really looks like crap...oh, I have so much to add from being in college, should have just brought it). In the book I have an on-ride of my first time on Beast in '02...gosh, I was so scared. And here I have a postcard of Vortex that I put near my desk, and whenever I need a quick lifter-upper I just look at my desk and think of the beginning of Vortex and SMILE... I need a new T-shirt. The one I got four years ago doesn't fit anymore.
  11. Hm...looks interesting enough. I'd have to see it run. And if they put that theming on it, especially at KI if they EVER decide to get something like that...NO.
  12. Makes me want to write a song...oh, wait, I already did that. I still think it's a good decision; heck, it's getting me to go there this summer at one point in time or another. It's clear that CF likes having KI, as a bigger park, and they're making the conscious, already told a zillion times decision to not compete against themselves. And if they do decide to close it down, I'll throw a fit until they keep it open or decide to move Dipper somewhere. (Wouldn't it be freaky if they decided to move Dipper to KI? After reprofiling the land and everything to make it work...)
  13. Your story makes me smile. That's what happened with me and Vortex. And if that hadn't happened...seriously, who knows where I would be today? *high-five*
  14. From the article I read in the Enquirer the other day, and I quote, "Paramount-themed attractions...will not be affected because they have separate licenses with Paramount Pictures for the rights to use the names." After that expires, though, it's anyone's guess. I don't remember a lot of the park in its pre-Paramount days (seeing as how I spent the entire time in Hanna-Barbera land), but I would like to see more Oktoberfest themed stuff. Festhaus...unfortunately, didn't seem really Festhaus-ish the last time I was there. Coney Mall is my favorite part of the park, and they'd definitely have to work on doing something with that. Maybe make IJ into some sort of adventure ride, something that would take you through different places...maybe take you through different parts of Cincinnati or America? I know it's kind of short, but it might work. I think Fort Cooper (or whatever it's called, forgive me, I'm new) is slowly becoming its own area, with FoF and Firehawk now. That's fine with me, if they want to go with it, just don't re-theme Racer or something (or else they will be hearing from me, big and loud). They got the space; why not expand? I'm just glad they removed the Paramount from the sign.
  15. Thanks. And yeah, I'm not a partyer(sp?). I'd rather go visit Kings Island in the snow than go to a frat party. Let your son know about the new ice center -- he should come take a look if he hasn't already.
  16. I grew up on the north side of Indianapolis, so this brings back so many memories. I still refer to the fourth floor as the fifth...I had many, many rides on that carousel. My family went back in April and we saw the glass. Thanks for the pictures -- I can tell you had a great time there. Oh, and my choir sang there quite a few times as well. We would sing there at Christmas, and they would turn the staircase into a "Scrappy's Slide" sledding type thing and we would slide down. Good times. I didn't get a chance to ride the carousel again, but I do remember the organ...does it still have the drum on it as well? I remember riding as far away as I could from that drum because it hurt my ears every time I went around, but I also wanted to sit by the mirrors...okay, okay, enough. Point is, good report.
  17. I do remember hearing that, about taking out Flight of Fear...but seems as if CF has other plans. We'll see where they go with that. I'm actually planning on, at some point during the on-season, going to Geauga Lake. The last time I was there it was still Six Flags, and I was still under the parents so I couldn't just go wander off and ride what I wanted to (I wanted to ride RWB because that was the only thing I would ride back then), and we spent the majority of the day over at the Sea World part anyway. So to hear this, that they're still planning to keep GL alive for now...it kind of gives me hope. In my opinion, they're not trying to kill it off, rather to restore it to what it once was. Six Flags, I think most of us can agree, kind of screwed it over. I'm all for the regional park thing. You know, it's been around forever...that's even more of a reason to keep it around for generations to come. (Maybe I'm just too sappy and optimistic, but there you go.) Besides, from what I've heard, Dominator is pretty sweet, and I have a date with Big Dipper.
  18. That makes me smile at the nostalgia. Weird...feeling nostalgia for a place and time I wasn't even born in. Man, do I have an imagination. (Then again, you didn't need to tell me that one.)
  19. Probably the thing I like to remember is that these guys who make the roller coasters know what they're doing (in terms of death, now back injuries, apparently that's another thing). You have a better chance of dying along Route 71 getting there than at the park itself. I was the same way, until one fateful day at the park when I rode Vortex...and the rest is history. My advice: just go for it! Start out small, of course, but if you're going to keep your fear from letting you experience something awesome, then you're probably going to have a bum day. You'll be working at the park, so you'll probably get a daily look at how that thing runs when it starts running past Memorial Day. Get used to it, and then go for it! It could be worse (read, in your case: Millennium Force).
  20. I thought they did. It said, en quote (I have the Enquirer right here) "This is the first major thrill ride here in years...We're very excited. It will be a great addition to the park." Unless I'm a total newb and that's not really her. (more congrats, to keep on topic)
  21. Like me? I'll use my first post to congratulate Ryan as well...stole an Enquirer from a mess hall during a break because somebody said Firehawk was on the front and I wanted to check it out. I was delighted to see pkicentral on the front. I've hovered for a while, but the front page of the Cincinnati paper... (whistles and bows down) But yes, many congrats.
