  1. Great pics! Thanks for posting them! It seems like so long ago that we were watching the progress on the webcam, and riding the train just so we could see the excavated land in the back!
  2. Looking at your view of the white water ride from the observation ride brings back memories. I have been to Carowinds one time, in 96 or 97. Afterburn (Top Gun) was new, and I really wanted to ride it! We seemed to keep walking past the part where it dives under one side of the walking path, and comes back up on the other side. Awesome effect! We had a 3 year old with us though, so it was out of the question. We had a serious "potty" issue with the kid, and by time we got that taken care of, it was pretty late. We decided to take a lap on the white water ride. It ended up taking 2 hours to get through the line. They were having an issue with the conveyor ramp. We spent all day at the park, and ended up riding the rapid ride, and the Scooby Doo Ghoaster Coaster. I think thats the Woodstock one now. Little woodie. I remember really liking the park though. Very Clean, very polite and courteous staff. I remember thinking the park was really small at the time. By looking at your photos, I'd say it has grown a bit! Good times. Just went back and checked. It was 1999 when we were there. Thats when Top Gun was built, and my daughter was born in 96, so that makes more sense. what can I say? I am terrible with dates and times! LOL
  3. And what about those people that do not have cable and thus cannot watch Nickelodeon? We cannot make baseless comments/ guesses on things we have no information on. Peanuts have been around for over 50 years. There has been no new comics made for almost 10, yet, newspapers around the World still print the strips. Some of the cartoons are well over 30 years old, yet, are still shown on the major TV networks during prime time. If Peanuts were so unknown, why would major media providers still offer the Peanuts product? Now think about some of the ride that were in Nick U and were being outdated because the shows are no longer being shown, and Nick U was updated as recent as 6 years ago. But we can make baseless comments/ guesses on things we have no information on. This is an internet forum, and I did not take any type of oath before being allowed to post. I am not posting false information, just stating my opinion I am not disputing that the Peanuts gang have been around for a long time, I watched them when I was younger, just like my parents did. The whole point of my post (which seems to have been missed) is that Spongebob is massivly more popular than any of the Peanuts. I can not give you a spread sheet, or any type of poll where I checked with every single person in the universe, but it's common sense. You know it as well, even if you don't want to admit it. I don't say that to be negative towards the Peanuts alone. It was evident any day at the park. When Wanda&Cosmo were out, we walked up and got a picture, same with Arnold, Dora, Boots, and all the rest. When Spongebob was out there though. We had to wait in line for a photo. I like the fact that you mentioned the outdated rides. I wish they would have updated the rides to more popular shows too. Although, the shows that are no longer being made are still being aired on TV. they just aren't on in prime-time. Bottom line is Peanuts are still out there, the kids know them, but they just aren't as popular as some others. Newspapers have to fill an entire page with comic strips. Just because a strip is in the newspaper doesn't make it great, some of them are just "fillers". Peanuts are still offered by major media providers because they are still known, but more importantly, in relation to Disney, and Nick, they are cheap. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, well, maybe a little , but I still don't see how people can think that Peanuts is "better" for the park than Nick. It's all about money. If the Nick licensing was renewed for the same price, we would not have been discussing Peanuts at all. That is a fact!
  4. Really? And what are you basing this information on? Clearly, I stood outside of Cedar Point every day last season and personally interviewed every man, woman and child that went in. Then, when I told Lucy the results, she said she'd give me five good reasons and ended up waving her fist in my face. I'll give you Snoopy, but not Lucy. I was always scared of that girl. How would standing outside Cedar Point everyday last season personally interviewing every man, woman and child that went in give you accurate information on what kids are dreaming about? Can't we all just get along?
  5. I agree. You are 100% right, but we aren't talking about an empty lot here. The park will have (sort of) themeing. The problem most of us have is we know what is popular with our own children. Take that empty lot, go on both sides of the ride and set up a photo booth. Put Spongebob in one booth, and Snoopy in the other. I have a feeling that Snoopy would be pretty lonely. I don't know that for a fact, just a guess.
  6. Just as long as they don't put it as the MCBR. If they do that all they will get is disappointed looking people. I am one of the lucky one that was fortunate enough to get one of the FoF videos! I love that thing! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  7. Wow, with 12 dollar hamburgers, and 6 dollar Cokes, can you imagine how much a sit down restaurant would cost? Yes, I exaggerated the cost (I think) just pointing out that the food is ridiculously expensive there
  8. No new episodes for Rugrats, Thornberries, but anyone with a sick kid will tell you that they still get plenty of airtime. It's just late at night
  9. I chose "other" My daughter and I always like to hit Adventure Express and Racer first thing to kind of "warm up" for the day! If you ride DB or Beast first, the smaller coasters lose a bit of their thrill and seem to be, well, small.
  10. LOL, well you weren't gonna do anything constructive with those 10 minutes anyways!
  11. I am one of the people that LOVES Son of Beast. Of course it's rough. In 1979 The Beast was the biggest, baddest, meanest coaster ever built, it has been the measuring stick for woodies ever sense. Would you expect it's offspring to be anything other than pure insane? Seriously though, I respect the opinions of people who are upset over the 2010 status, but think about it. Is Kings Island a better park now than it was in 1979? I think the immediate response would be yes. I would agree. I would also say though, I was very upset when we lost the "big" log ride.(call it Kenton Cove if you want too, big log ride is what I was told it was) Also, think about all the other great rides that have been taken out. Zodiac, Witches wheel, Demon, King Cobra, Eagles, Taxi's, Safari, and the biggest loss in my opinion, the campground. Point is, while it sucks to lose a ride a you love, it doesn't mean that the park will be worse because of it. How crazy did it seem that under different ownership, KI is taking our Beetle, Bat, Demon, Cobra, Ghoastercoaster, all the while, Cedar Point was adding coaster after coaster. Nobody in Columbus was talking about going to KI back in those days, we all headed north. Kings Island survived, and is a great park now. I hate the idea of SoB possibly going Bye-bye. If not because I love the ride, then because I am a woodworker by trade, and looking at that structure is something that we will never see again, it is absolutely beautiful. When you go to the park this year, get lots of pictures of it, because if it does leave, one day we will all be talking about it with love, just like The Bat is revered now, and not talked about like it was when it was "sort of" operational. Enough from me, a quick summary. SoB=Good, teardown=bad, not the first ride to go, won't be the last. suck it up, and enjoy whats left.
  12. The best way for them to make money would be to put in a quarter shooter gun like on WWC. When I saw my wife and daughter coming around the bend on that ride, I was throwing quarters at everybody by a cannon, and pointing them out! I thought about it later. I would love to see how much money they get out of those things at the end of the day!
  13. I am trying to follow this whole thing. There is no way I can read every article that is posted. I have to ask. Do the Cedar Fair parks make money? All of them? With all of this debt, what was it 1.7 billion? If the parks make a profit every year won't the debtors make a deal to keep them from filing bankruptcy, and risk getting nothing? If Q thinks the parks need better management, then they think the potential is there to have a profitable chain. They think Apollo is just trying to come in and scoop up a great deal at a Rock bottom price. Is that right?
  14. I was one of the people that used to complain about the elephant. Last year though, at least when I rode it, it seemed to be turned down. At first, it was like a bucket of water being thrown on you, but later it was more like a mist. I was fine with that. I really liked it last year.
  15. Reading the ups and downs, and backs and forths of this deal has been like riding a roller coaster all offseason!
  16. Sure they are, now. Back when Vortex was built, they didn't have No Limits coaster sims. This ride was designed with a pencil and slide rule. Modeled with toothpicks and gum You'd be shocked to see the cutting edge of technology way back in the ancient times of 1986! Yes, this entire post was made with tongue in cheek.
  17. We're #1! We're #1! That will have to be in there somewhere!
  18. About The Beastie/Woodstock naming. My guess would be that they did not see a reason to pay for licensing, and then use a name that they didn't have to pay for (Beastie). You can bet, if I have to pay for something, I will milk it for all it's worth! Like the guy in the McDonalds commercial that digs up the whole sidewalk because he paid to rent the jackhammer all day. "Just gettin' my money's worth"
  19. Wow, thanks Ringmaster. Very cool to see it that way!
  20. Please excuse my ignorance for not already knowing this. If Six Flags and Cedar Fair were to merge under Apollo Management, would that be every major park in the country being owned by one group?
  21. Yeah, during the Paramount years they had an indoor Laser light show in the Paramount theater. It was Mission Impossible. I think there was a story to it, but we were just there to get out of the heat for a few minutes! LOL
  22. In our sue-happy society, I would like to see the zoo sue this couple for the cost of whatever new barriers they will undoubtedly have to install to protect the idiots from the animals. After all, it was all their fault that the new barriers are necessary.
  23. Your constant reminders of 031610 remind me of all the Mayan 12/21/2012 stuff!!!! Maybe the same result for Cedar Fair, and the world, just at different times?
  24. Wow, are they claiming this their song? LOL
  25. In the spirit of "Common Man, & The Torg" Citgo!
