  1. Kings Island plays the greatest hits of today (and mostly of 2 or 3 years ago, not to mention a show centered around basically every decade you can imagine). Islands of Adventure plays a custom-made orchestral arrangement that is specific to each island, setting the tone perfectly and creating an emotional compass toward what you should be feeling (awe, tension, mystery, grandeur, etc) not unlike a film score. In other words, pumping Rihanna's "Umbrella" through Oktoberfest at a 9 / 10 is different than hearing the Jurassic Park score at the same level when you're walking through Jurassic Park. Completely understand what you are getting at, it's all in what you can handle. I have an annual pass at Universal/IOA and I have a season pass at Kings Island and go to both often. I enjoy listening to the hits of today as well as the themed music of IOA. IMO the loudest music out of either park is the music when the Marvel villians and heros come out to meet the guests. It drowns out the sound of the Incredible Hulk ride, and if you have been near that ride, you know that is quite an accomplishment.
  2. IMO I don't mind not being able to hear, "Give it a shot! Give it a try!" My new home parks will be Universal/IOA soon and when I go there, I really don't notice any difference in volume from the music from Universal/IOA compared to Kings Island. My suggestion would be, if you want to have a conversation, don't sit next to audio speakers pumping out the music.
  3. There is a very large basement under the season pass processing building which could be used for shelter if need be but I worked in many severe storms and it was never used.
  4. I'm not even sure they could operate one of those today without putting an awning over the entire thing, as the plastic would get so hot in the summer. I used to ride the slide in Hannah-Barbera Land when I was a young chap and there were times in the summer that I was afraid to grab the sides of the slide to push myself faster because the slide was so hot! But man was it fun racing my brother and dad!
  5. If there's any inkling of truth to this, than gas increasing from (let's round) $3.50 to $4.25 will cost the American economy $105 billion. And there's not a single subsidy or assistance the government can offer to combat that? We'll just lose that $105 billion? Why not offer something to at least combat it? We'll still loose money (on top of trillions of dollars of debt, mind you) but at least the economy will remain stimulated so we will not lose jobs, exports, etc. along with it. I'd rather increase the already-laughable national debt than loose individual, American jobs that won't come back. Just in my humble opinion... the government subsidizing anything sounds like a moral hazard to me and also... we are more than flat broke and can't afford it. The money must come from somewhere, and I don't think our friends in the Far East are going to keep coughing up the dough for our benefit. But the government does subsidize agriculture and transportation. In other words, the money a farmer makes from farming is not enough to support him in continuing to farm, so the government lowers certain prices by paying the difference and offers deals and loopholes for farmers in land ownership, etc. so that they can continue to farm. The truth is, our agriculture industry is not exactly a national treasure, nor a great export. We import much of our fruits and vegetables, not grow them here. While agriculture is an important aspect of our economy, we subsidize it as though it were the only thing keeping us afloat. Gasoline actually does keep our economy afloat, but the message I hear is: "When you can't afford the gasoline to get you to your minimum wage job that you managed to get twenty minutes away and the cycle of poverty begins once again for you and your family, that's just too bad. We'll continue to make white bread for you for cheap, though." For an increasing number of Americans, the cycle of poverty occurs when their car breaks down and they've spent so much on fixing it that they can't afford to gas to run it, which means they miss a day at a minimum-wage job where they're highly replaceable, so they're replaced. Without a job, they don't have money to buy gasoline to get to a job interview, etc. How do you get out of that hole with $4.50 a gallon gas? That's what I've picked up from my limited exposure to the situation and my limited understanding of government. Maybe the way we go about our normal day has something to do with it. With our consumer based economy and society, everyone must have the newest and greatest thing, even if it is a severe strain on their finances. I think if people took more responsibility over their finances many years ago, that would have been a major deterant to a recession/depression. I do also blame certain companies for this issue too though. It was too easy for people to borrow huge amounts of money for houses they never could realistically afford, but there was this myth being put out there that housing will always be on a steady trend upward. Instead of the normal 15 or 30 year fixed rate mortgage, people got into those adjustable rate mortgages, a serious gamble IMHO. Numerous shows on tv caused people to think they could get rich quick by flipping houses and I have friends who lost homes because of this type of gamble. I just think personal responsibility has gone by the wayside tremendously. From my personal peer group, I do not know many people who recieved a tax return and said they were going to put it into their IRA, CD, savings account, ect. It seems they always have some purchase in mind. These returns, if saved even in a savings account with the next to 0% interest they have right now, could help those afford car repairs, buying of groceries, gas purchases, over priced food at Kings Island, etc.

  7. I am not a financial professional by any means but I hope everyone remembers what happened the last time the dow was this high and gas prices were on their steady path up like this 4 years ago... and now with the robo signing of mortgages being ironed out and forclosures on the rise.. it's going to be a heck of an interesting summer. I will be packing my lunch in a cooler and leaving it in the car when I visit KI to save my nickels.
  8. Kind of my own personal flashback... but on my profile pic I just put up a picture of Rudy Guiliani and me at the Sean Hannity Freedom Tour concert back in 2007. That pic was taken in the back stage area of Kings Island Theater. I would post it in this forum, but I am not sure how! LOL!
  9. Take it from someone who has been back in those areas legally... it is creepy back on those back areas where the animal safari ride was! Especially at night! Would be perfect for HH.
  10. Yeah, while channel surfing, I have seen many sentimental people on Hoarders. I believe I saw a browns fan on that show the other night... just sayin' LOL! I have a chunk of the turf from when Ohio State beat that team up north in 2002. I am sure if the Browns did something significant, that you may want something from that.
  11. Just because that is what the ride is made out of, doesn't mean there isn't electricity or any type of tools in the area that can cause a fire. WhoDey2007, who has extensive personal experience in this area.
  12. I am sure it is just one of the off season park police officers doing a patrol. Kings Island has both security and park police officers who work in the offseason. The park police wear tan pants and a very dark blue shirt. It also appears that the person has a flashlight in their hand. It is very common for security to have to do a fire watch round near any new construction.
  13. I can remember in years previous that they had the fireworks at 10 and on the TV monitors around the park they had something on the screen about still being open.
  14. I kind of see both sides in a way. I understand that dreadlocks have become more fashionable as of late and that some people pull off the look well, but I believe employers have the right to set those grooming standards. I remember when the Cincinnati Reds weren't allowed to have facial hair or wear jewelry. Did the players like it? No. Did they conform so they could play? Yes. Eventually those standards changed with different management. What is going to hurt this girl, if she turns this into a lawsuit, is that it isn't a deal breaker to obtain the job, as stated in the article. I am sure she could figure out a way to wear her hair that is acceptable to the company policy, just like the other thousands of employees of Cedar Fair. I just am not sure that racial discrimination is applicable in this case.
  15. I would believe that even if the trains are on site, that they would be in storage just like the other coasters. IMO I believe you won't see any test runs until late Feb or early March 09.
  16. In Springboro, on State Route 73, there is gas for $2.98 a gallon!
  17. You may want to read a little closer next time before you troll. Crude is now down $6.58 a barrel.
  18. Oil is currently down almost $9 a barrel! WOOHOO! Keep going down!
  19. Personally, I think that one of the inductees should be the security officer who died trying to save the person who got electricuted in the Viking Fury pond.
  20. They are placing track pieces on the cement in the splashdown area. I wonder if they will be working on that today...
  21. I am going with Mustang. That red fencing on the ground looks too much like fencing that goes around horse circles to train horses.
  22. It seems like whenever I am in the waterpark, It's a Beautiful Morning, is playing! I thought that was a decent song to listen to until I have heard it like 200 times over the course of the summer. I was heading down to BB the other day and when one of the BB songs started playing in my car I about put my fist through my center console trying to change the station! LOL!
  23. Interesting way to backtrack after saying, "Security has been horrible this year." It is hard to make a point about park management when you make a statement that doesn't have park management anywhere in it. I believe that security's number one goal should be the personal protection of the individual, rather than material items of each person. This is a major reason why we all walk through metal detection. Park rules like, smoking in designated areas, line jumping, etc, though important, should be considered secondary to the safety and protection of you and your children. Think of all the crap those folks go through on a daily basis. Many of them make a very low hourly wage but still put themselves in potiential harms way just so that you and your family can have a fun-filled day. For the amount of time you have spent replying to these posts, you could have made a quite a few statements at GR. GR is open till the last guest leaves for the night and it is right on your way out. No need to interrupt their day. Stop on your way out. Easy enough. Or maybe you are like certain folks who just look for something to complain about but never want to go about it in the right way. You get zero sympathy from me.
  24. How much time do you really take out of your day to observe security? I wonder how many park rules would be broken if you were one of the handful of guards trying to make tens of thousands of people follow each rule? Some people don't follow rules no matter what security is there. When was the last time you heard a child was abducted from Kings Island, a rape, murder, major assault, robery, or any other major felony happened at the park? That is the things I am concerned about and if you take in consideration, you may change your statement. I will stand by my statement about security guards ignoring rule violations that occur in their presence. Specifically, alcohol, cigarette smoking and line jumping that occur while the guards are talking to the female ride operators. I have also walked behind secuity guards while people smoking cigarettes pass them with no action taken. As for the other things you have mentioned, the absence of these kinds of crimes at KI has as much to do with the fact that it is a crowded public place as much as it has to do with security. After all, if someone is inclined to commit a violent crime, they are naturally less likely to do so in a place where there will be hundreds of witnesses. And, a rhetorical question, why would a felon act in a place that they have to pay to get into when there are thousands of places where they can commit crime for free? What about alcohol? Are you mad people can walk around with it now? As long as guests are not in a line for a ride, they are allowed to take it anywhere in the park. They did away with the beer garden rule awhile back. I still would like to know how much time you have spent just following around security while at KI. I have been going to KI longer than some of those female ride operators you speak of have been alive and I find it a rarity to see security speaking with ride operators at all, let alone females. Point being, you make a general reference about a whole department of workers, which is unfair. If you have an issue, find out the officer's name and go to guest relations with a complaint. If it is as you say, nothing will get better until someone steps up to the plate and says something. By the way, you may want to just check out public records at the City of Mason, and just take a look how productive KI security really is.
  25. How much time do you really take out of your day to observe security? I wonder how many park rules would be broken if you were one of the handful of guards trying to make tens of thousands of people follow each rule? That is the things I am concerned about and if you take in consideration, you may change your statement. You'd be concerned if it had been your stuff stolen out of your locker. I believe it was more user error in locking your locker than someone breaking into the locker. Make sure you check the locker to make absolutely sure it is locked next time. You may want to blame those who actually maintain the lockers than the security officers. If security sees someone walk up, open the locker, and take stuff out, it will not look suspicious. Did you happen to look for pry marks or anything out of the ordinary on the locker after your found your stuff was missing? I am sorry but your larceny still doesn't come close to my previous statement. Learn from this and move on.
