  1. 1972.  I remember riding the train with people beside it, log flume, Scooby Doo, Bavarian Beetle, not being tall enough for racer, not being tall enough to drive the antique and turnpike cars, the original Enchanted Voyage.  I was three years old and I thought it was the best thing ever.

Just to add specifics, after the Skyride was closed, the (North) Octoberfest station was used as a "Wine & Cheese/Salad Bar for the 1980, '81, & '82 seasons.  It was demolished in 1983 in preparation for King Cobra.

The Octoberfest Skyride station was located exactly where the entrance to the KC loop was... and is currently where the base of the first drop of Banshee is located.

  3. The document filed with the Warren County Recorder is a Notice of Commencement.  It lists the companies that will be providing services and/or materials for a future project or projects. (See Ohio Revised Code Section 1311.04)  From the Notice of Commencement, it appears that several things are going on.  One of the companies listed is the rigging company that hangs the lights on the Eiffel Tower for Winterfest.  There are several construction companies listed (I assume for the dorms that have been discussed).  Then B&M is listed as well; however, Clermont Steel Fabricators, the company that would provide the materials for a new B&M coaster, is conspicuous in its absence.  This will certainly be interesting.

I hope one day that Kings Island gets a B&M Floorless coaster. That's the only thing I feel is missing between the Cedar Point and Kings Island. Cedar Point converted Mantis to Rougarou and now I'm hoping that one day Kings Island gets one next.

B&M is not currently building roller coasters in the United States.

Wow, what do you guys think?

I hate to see Intamin's safety record get worse as I love many of their rides, I feel like we wont be seeing many Intamin rides and Cedar Fair parks in the future.

EDIT: My bad, not sure if you want this discussion to be limited to Cedar Point 2016 thread, delete this thread if appropriate.

Today's inspection found the incident to be Intamin's fault?  Where did you locate this information so soon after the inspection?

  6. I second Hershey Park!   Although they do not have a real "kids' area," there are kids' rides within close proximity to all of the "big rides" which serve as a de facto parent swap. (The younger child has rides to enjoy while the parents and older kids ride the nearby "big rides") The family can navigate the park together without having to arrange a "meet up" several hours later.   And they have lower height requirements so that my three year old could ride Sooper Dooper Looper, Trail Blazer and Comet!  Where else can you hear a three year old tell you that "It looked like the world went around me" after his first inversion?   And Skyrush, Lightning Racer, and Storm Runner are all top-quality ride experiences!

  7. According to the article, the company's stock value tripled under Mr. Ouimet's leadership.   Yet, the indefinite deal continues his current rate of compensation.  In my opinion, that man did exactly what a CEO is supposed to do and, as a result, deserves a raise!   And based upon his performance at CF, there may well be other companies out there that would give him that raise......

  8. Indefinite?  Without a set term of years binding either CF or Mr. Ouimet, The Board can fire him at any time after his current contract expires without having to pay him for the time remaining on his contract.  He can also leave for greener pastures at any time.   I wonder which side insisted upon the indefinite term.  Since he didn't get a raise despite the performance numbers set forth in the article, I suspect Mr. Ouimet may be working on his resume......

  9. No injury was life-threatening, no, but drowning was a possibility. As was stated, thanks to the bystanders, the passengers happened to get out unscathed, but if the same bystanders did not help, and the passengers had to wait, say, 5 more minutes, they could have all sustained serious injuries to their lungs and brains, or worse (that is, if the boat was submerged or caused the passengers to be submerged. Could somebody please verify either way?). Still, it was a very serious incident that turned out to be a minor incident due to the good Samaritans that jumped in and helped immediately instead of succumbing to the Bystander effect

You are using hypothetical situations to exaggerate what actually occurred.   There was a thunderstorm in my hometown today (I could have been killed by lightning), I took a shower this morning ( I could have slipped and hit my head and died), I drove to work today (I could have been rear-ended by a semi).....  Suggesting that people were "nearly killed" on Shoot the Rapids is about a half step above the people who think that people were killed on Son of Beast and/or The (original) Bat!  It is a wild exaggeration that unfairly casts the park industry (And, in this case, Cedar Point) in a negative light that is unfair, inaccurate and fuels unfounded rumors such as those mentioned above, which is why I even came back here.

^Being stuck in restraints while the boat has capsized in the water is pretty much nearly killed.

Of the seven people who were injured, six were treated at the scene without being transported to a medical facility.  The seventh was treated and released from the Emergency Room.   The trained medical professionals who actually examined and assessed the condition of the passengers obviously disagree with your diagnosis of the injuries that they suffered.

You can have a near death experience without having any injuries. The people who were in the capsized boat only had minor injuries and a near death experience instead of having an entirely dead experience because other people jumped into the water and lifted the boat. If they would have stood there and watched instead....

You seem to be a voice of common sense.  Under different circumstances, serious and/or fatal injuries may have occurred.   Fortunately, such circumstances did not arise.  That does not mean that people were "nearly killed."  No one involved in that incident suffered any injury that was life-threatening and to suggest otherwise is, in my opinion, dishonest and irresponsible.

  12. Top Thrill Dragster (and other Intamin products) are great...when they work. When they don't work, which seems like a common occurrence, there's either significant downtime or compromised public safety. Will Intamin be a viable company in 10 years? It looks grim.

I haven't posted here in quite some time, but the misinformation I have read today is appalling to me!  (Someone actually claimed that the seven people who suffered minor injuries on Shoot The Rapids were "nearly killed"..SMH)  According to rcdb, Intamin currently has 9 coasters listed as "Under Construction."  If that is a "grim" future, what does that say about B&M that only has 7?
