This silence is really making me question if we should go to Kings Dominion instead, We will be visiting family in the PA area and going to Kennywood on monday, from there, we are planning on going to Carowinds. It seems like it was supposed to open last week but the sudden silence has me scrambling. If it doesn't open by Monday, we may just go to KD instead. The communication was great at first but now it's seems like they do not want to release any statements as they found something and do not want bad press and / or do not want to give people a timeline that may change (Ex: Worlds of Fun)

Sometimes the "silence" is necessary. There is a lot of legality surrounding any type of "comment" made from the park. If they say the welds are bad, Clermont Steel could come back and file a defamation or slander lawsuit. It's always better to know something as fact before any news is released.

I just don’t understand why you are so bitter towards Chad? I’m curious now if you have ever applied for that position but Chad ended up getting the job.

You seem like one of the very few defending him constantly, so one could turn around and ask you why? What do you potentially have to earn? Do you personally know him or are related to him?

I'm honestly not sure why this is still an issue. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and thoughts. It seems like you just want to constantly argue with anyone you can.

It's official, she has applied for the job. We tried to look at the application to apply for the housing just to see what the questions would be but it will not let us in. We were not going to apply till she has the job but just wanted to see what the application said. I assume they don't give access till after you are accepted for the job?

Housing application is only for active employees, so you would have to wait until an offer was made. Then during online onboarding she will be asked if she wants to apply for housing. Just keep in mind the housing fills up pretty quickly.

  4. I recently went to WDW in September and stayed at Riverside. This was my 7th time staying at this resort and my 6th time staying in building 38. This trip gave me the same “meh” feeling that Shaggy described above. There were dead trees, roof tiles, and trash just laying around in different garden areas. It remained that way during the 6 days I was there. The pool and pool area was visibly needing maintenance work done. Their food court area is beyond needing a refresh and a deep clean.

You could just visibly see that things were not being maintained or cared about while Chapek was in charge.

I was actually debating even renewing my AP next month, but I guess this news gives me a better reason.

Nothing to do with the Free Fall and has been discussed in a thread here somewhere - different manufacturer and different restraints.  Drop Tower has a seat belt between the legs and that one didn't and is the main difference (well FreeFall also has seats that tilt forward which didn't help the situation).  It would have been a different outcome had that ride had seat belts (and why a brand new ride didn't learn from the past and have them is crazy) AND had they not allowed the seat to be altered.  In addition to the safety aspect of Drop Tower seat belt not allowing someone to slide thru, it would also prevent the ride from going with the restraint as high up as the Free Fall ride because the Drop Tower restraints will lock a lot higher, but if the seat belt doesn't lock, then no ride.  The seat belt is a certain length for a reason.

Your spy reports are wrong LOL.  It ran until August 9th and was struck that night/next morning by lightning and fried some components that can only be obtained by Intamin and they had a long lead time that kept getting pushed and when it became obvious it wouldn't be here in time for final weekend, they went ahead and started winter prep for the ride early...

It was down a bit for wind this year, as well as another lightning strike earlier in the summer (July 6th) that knocked it out a few days while the spare part was put in (thus why when it blew again a month later they didn't have a spare available as they were waiting on the part).

From my understanding, there is a part and some bolts that broke at the top of the tower. Since it happened late in the season, they were supposedly waiting so they could include the (very expensive) part into 2023 capex.

I have to give credit where credit is due. I think Kings Island has been taking note of their theming and technology breaking. I was never in Area 72 today, so I cannot comment on Orion’s theming, but I noticed several Fun TV’s that have been out for a while are now working as of recently in multiple locations. Also, Mystic Timbers’ TV with the security footage before the stairs was working today for the first time all season. Obviously, Kings Island has been trying to fix what has been broken. However, there is still work to be done. While some things have been fixed with Mystic Timbers’ theming, for example, some of the lights are out in the shed or aren’t working properly (the hanging lights should be flickering), the audio loop that plays on the steps is not working (the one about jumping starting the truck and getting out of there), and I don’t know if that speaker that plays the soundtrack in the Fast Lane line is fixed yet. I am more optimistic now that these and other problems will be addressed soon as I can tell the park has been trying to step it up.

That’s what’s great about this time of year before Haunt! It allows the park to finally address other issues that they haven’t had the manpower for. Glad to see them taking care and fixing broken things around the park.

There are reports that at least two Six Flags parks have closed entire sections of the parks for the rest of the year.  SFA has removed references to Coyote Creek and Whistle Stop Park, and the rides in them from the website.  For people not familiar with the park this is the kids area of the park.  I have heard something similar is also occurring at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom but they do not appear to have completely removed the rides from the website just marked them as closed for the season, but it looks like there is a lot that is closing.

So far these are the only two parks, but its possible it has just not spread to the rest of the chain yet.

This is not going to help with attendance, or help attract more families.  This feels like a desperate move to try to save money that is likely to do more damage then help.

Sounds like Six Flags of the past…..

  8. For KI’s Gold Pass, the payment plan is super simple. As long as you make your monthly pass payment, your pass will be active from the moment of purchase. If for any reason you miss a payment, your passes would have a block placed on them until the payment issue is rectified.

As far as blackout days, a Gold Pass will get you into the park on any regular operating day, which includes Haunt and Winterfest. It also gets you the free parking as well!

And why wouldn't you read it as follows?

"Tricks and Treats is sure to appeal to those looking for some frightful family fun"

    and

"Halloween Haunt is sure to appeal to those looking for a good scare".

Because both of those sections use the word "or".  It implies there are options depending on what you're looking for.  Why would they advertise that they might cater to one group or the other but not necessarily both?

    6 minutes ago, disco2000 said:

^I read it that way because they eliminated Haunt at two parks this year....and depending on how Haunt goes from a security standpoint, it is always possible that a park may decide not to continue with it...

If all 10 parks were to have both why wouldn't they use AND instead of OR....

And why didn't they specifically mention the 10 parks for Tricks and Treats or Haunt....They specifically announced the parks getting Winterfest...

Your wording above is much better and clearer...

But as we have seen with the Prestige pass confusion, wording of statements are not their strong suit :P

Now I know anything can happen, but I cannot see CF cancelling KI’s Haunt. Outside of Knotts, KI has been voted #1 and has historically brought in some of KI’s highest attendance numbers and income.

It does seem odd that they are deviating a bit from their previous costing model.  Could be a couple of different reasons:

    • KI is a more valuable asset than the other parks so they are reflecting that in the pricing.
    • Adjusting to cost of living/cost of doing business variations across the communities they have parks in.
    • They sold too many gold passes to KI and are trying the Disney approach (that failed lol) at raising costs to better control attendance.
    • Some other reason or no reason at all.

Another potential reason could be the issue that’s been starting to plague theme and amusement parks…..

    fights and rowdy crowds.

Now before you read ahead, please know that I am not trying to start an argument or debate. I am just simply stating a theory. Many people accuse Disney of the same exact theory below:

Even though I don’t agree with the theory, raising prices can be seen as a way to discourage the rowdy crowds. In a lot of business minds, it’s the poorer people who misbehave. (100% don’t agree with that) So by raising prices they can keep poorer people away and then the rowdiness may subside.

    Thoughts?

  11. I’m not surprised KI isn’t getting a major ride or attraction next year. I don’t think a lot of people realize how much time, effort, and money went into this 50th season.

I, for one, would like to see KI spend the remainder of this season and next upgrading and enhancing both Halloween Haunt and Winterfest. Enhancing both these events would be a win in my book. Haunt has slowly, in my opinion, been dwindled down since CF ownership. I would like to see that grow in size and “production” quality. I miss the scare zones that were effectively themed. I miss the trail haunts and how the train was incorporated into haunt as well.

I think there are many things the park can do to enhance every guests overall experience and in my mind it doesn’t require a huge $20 million dollar attraction. The park could easily use $2-5 million and really upgrade all their events.

    Just my thoughts….

I have some that could just be pickup locations and not full blown restaurants- remember these are existing local brands:

    • Taste of Belgium: local and can be found in a few sports venues
    • Wings and Rings: again local and headquartered not too far from KI
    • Frisch’s: local Cincinnati chain with a lot of history
    • Montgomery Inn- again a local brand

Like I said, these are just some ideas to hit my head. I certainly wouldn’t want all of these in the park at the same time because I love our food options already.

I don’t know if you know or recall, they once had a restaurant where Brew House is called Wings. They, for a time, had Montgomery Inn Ribs and Chicken.

Now that they have their own BBQ restaurants in the park, I don’t see them bringing back Montgomery Inn any time soon.

I'd say a 400 foot tall coaster. Kings Island added Diamondback 20 years after Magnum and Orion 20 years after Millennium Force. We would've seen land clearing by now but it's fun to think about.

I think the current day Cedar Fair management is a lot less concerned with building big massive rides. I think they’re doing great at making sure their “flagship” parks have a couple 300+ foot rides, but I see them focusing more on family friendly rides for the next couple years.

Carowinds has announced the closure of Southern Star, Yo Yo, and Plants vs Zombies so the area expansion that leaked earlier in the year looks to be coming to fruition.

As far as KI is concerned while there have been no markers anywhere to my knowledge I do think a Planet Snoopy overhaul/expansion is coming sooner rather than later.  It is one of three areas that haven't really been touched  much (i.e. more than just paint jobs) since Mike Koontz became GM (the others being Action Zone and Soak City).  I would love to see the Camp Snoopy improvements like Carowinds got several years back.

I am excited to see what the GCI rumored Titan Track for WOF ends up looking like.  I see it as a test and learn similar to when they put GCIs in the smaller parks.  If it is successful and not as maintenance heavy as SV is I could certainly see a bigger version in KIs future.

I would also like to see our Planet Snoopy be converted into a Camp Snoopy. I think the Camp Snoopy aspect would fit in with the park better, plus it’s right next door to Rivertown. I think it would help blend those areas into a more natural and organic experience.

  15. Odds are that if it wasn’t turned into lost and found, that you probably won’t see it again. Hate that this happened to you. I know how nightmarish it can be to replace all those items.
