  1. To Terpy-- No. I had only went to KI once growing up. I should have said I had been to a couple other parks growing up. When I was at KI, I was maybe 5? I have vague memories. We had talked once and figured out I rode FOC when it was still The Beastie with the tunnel. Suffice to say, Firehawk was pretty scary to be my first "grown up" coaster!
  2. Firehawk in 2007. I didn't have the opportunity to go more than once or twice growing up. Making up for lost time though!
  3. This year, we are going to: 1. King's Island 2. Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom 3. Holiday World 4. Beech Bend 5. Cedar Point 6. Six Flags Over Georgia 7. Coney Island (Ohio) If time (and money!) allows, we are considering trips to: 1. Dollywood 2. Freestyle Music Park (Really don't care for the name!) 3. Busche Gardens Europe 4. King's Dominion (Been there before-if we go to BGE) 5. Carowinds (Been there before- if we hit up FMP)
  4. ^That's the case with me. I think exercise can be boring. Since it has been getting warmer outside, I have been upping the walks to get back in shape. This looks to be fun and get some exercise at the same time!
  5. Signed up for the 10k. Walking this one. My knees would hurt too much if I ran any of it.
  6. Must have it at least once each trip to the park. To me, the texture is different than other soft-serve. You can actually "bite" into it.
  7. 20-39 age bracket here. There are alot of 30 year olds around here. Never happen, but it would be cool if we could celebrate our birthdays along with The Beast's this year. And the dorkiness runs amuck!
  8. I plan on visiting five new parks and riding at least 25 new coasters. Not the least of which my date with Diamondback. What is everyone else looking forward to?
  9. The Beast opened a month and a half after I was born.
  10. I wrote a TR for King's Dominion when we went last summer. A little long-winded, but lots of details. Agree on the Volcano being the first ride of the day. It had the longest wait both days we were there. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...ion+trip+report
  11. Hoping for three times this year. We are hitting up CP, SFKK, Holiday World, Beech Bend, and SFOG so that cuts in on the KI trips.
  12. Thanks for the PTR! We are planning to go there this summer. Your pics let us see what we have to look forward to.
  13. Same- I like the park hoodies and sweaters, but don't see much coaster specific apparel. My other complaint is that a chunk of the girls clothes are ultra-fitted and I don't like my clothes vacuumed to me.
  14. We try to get to a few different ones each year. Hitting up SFKK, Holiday World, Beech Bend and SFOG for sure. Maybe BGE and/or Dollywood (depending on school and extern job at the hospital). Next year, I want to hit up Great Adventure, Hersheypark, and some of the other PA parks.
  15. Beautiful pictures! I went to DC 13 years ago for Close-up (program in our high school). Makes me want to change my plans and go this year instead of next. One thing I thought was neat was checking out the street signs. Where all the states are a street SOMEWHERE, it was fun looking for them. It took until the end of the week before we found Kentucky (Insert joke here???)!
  16. 2 Days at KI 2 Days at CP (Three more days this weekend!) 3 Days at Carowinds 2 Days at King's Dominion 1 Day Camden Park
  17. I did the maze for the first time last year. It was a total blast! Just remember to bring a flashlight if dark is coming on.
  18. Good spelling and grammar never go out of style. I despise the posts with poor spelling. It takes less then three seconds to make sure you have spelled everything correctly and that it makes sense. Granted, I am NOT talking about the occasional spelling error. Those happen. I don't think I really need to elaborate on the difference here. Granted, I am an English teacher's daughter, but this trend of not correcting spelling and phasing out how to write in cursive is ridiculous. Who would take writing like that seriously? Bodes badly for our futire. Somewhere, I know my mom is smiling!
  19. ^^ I know there are more and more of these types of projects popping up all over. BTW, your thesis sounds very interesting. I wrote mine on promiscuity in migratory birds. I like yours much better! I do have a question though, this really can't be a city owned park and not be in the city limits can it? The area by the fairgrounds is located in Cannonsburg/Coalton. The city limits of Ashland are several miles the other direction. People attending this park would spend their money more in Grayon (north of Boyd County by way of the Interstate) or in Cannonsburg before they would spend it in Ashland proper as they are closer locales then Ashland is. However, if this were for the county, then this MAY be a boom (but I have my doubts). I am going to have to put my thinking cap on too. Where they are thinking of putting this I don't think sits wholly in Boyd County or it sits on the fringe somewhat. The county lines for Greenup, Carter, and Boyd Counites zih-zag all through there. The KOA campground that was built is in Greenup County, but the way that the county lines are, you travel out the Industrial Park (Route 67) and go from Greenup County, to Boyd County, to Greenup County again. Most confusing for emergency responders!
  20. "By skipping the study, Stevens and other committee members said they think they can save both money and time — a feasibility study could tack three months onto the timeline. " I see you read this this morning too, Terp? Since I live not far from where they are wanting to put this thing, I have been following it pretty close. The article goes on to talk about what this group of people want. There is no mention of HOW they know this is what the public wants or what would be best for tourism. Greenbo (the local state park) has revamped their campground and has a brand new amphitheater. There is a two month old campground not more than a (literal) stone's throw with trails, cabins, hook-ups and a pool. AND they want to put it out near the the Boyd County Fairgrounds! Folks, for those who have not been out there- think barren wasteland. It's old strip mine with a big, steep hill to get to it and across the road from Kentucky Electric Steel- none of these, mind you, are pretty on the eyes. No restaurants or hotels handy. However, a plus is that it is less than three miles from Interstate 64. I am not going to say what I think this money would be better used for. From the first time I heard of it, I thought it sounded like they were trying to push this project through when people weren't looking or something and I don't know where this money is going to come from. I wasn't aware Boyd County's coffers were overflowing that much. And, I don't know if I would want to count on grant money. The Amphitheater at Greenbo currently doesn't have seats because that grant money was taken away to shore up the surplus debt at the end of last fiscal year. I could rant on about this some more, but I think I'll watch and see how far they try to push this thing....
  21. Nice trip report. The third person format was different (in a good way!), very well written and entertaining!
  22. Not what I meant! I don't like when people post the links and act ugly about it and make you feel stupid for asking what is, for you, a genuine question. I would not have thought to search for it first. I just remembered there were some folk who had went to the place and took lots of pictures and had stories and things to share with everyone and I wanted to pass them along.

  24. No Anaconda? I love how it sits over the water and is not too rough or intimidating. I'm glad you liked Shockwave. It is fun- just wish it was a little longer. The Eagles that were at KI are at Carowinds. But, they are all the same to me (NOTE: Nathan says the Eagles at Camden Park move a little "freer" than some others he has ridden). KD is a very nice park. I am already counting down to go back next summer!
  25. Some rides are scary for some, not so much for others. Example: The Racers- that could be potentially scary for someone (adults included) if they are nervous about heights and have not ridden other coasters before. I get what you mean though. I have been on some rides that I have known people are intentionally yelling to annoy ridemates. That really gets on my nerves and it is a fight to not reach up and "remind" them about manners!
