  1. you're***

Also, yelling at people for visiting your favorite park doesnt always go over very well.....

Yelling is when you are positing in a message in all caps. I was actually responded with a clueless look on my face. I am a man who loves to save money and knows common sense.

So you are saying the park shouldn't be open?

I live in DC. I was here today.

I probably won't be back this year.

So do you plan on visiting HW too? Your visit just sounds fishy. You travel to Louisville from DC just to go to Kentucky Kingdom? While Holiday World just opens Thunderbird?

  2. Your visiting Kentucky Kingdom today, when the rain is pouring. T2 is closed as well as several other new attractions. Going today IMO is just ignorant and a waste of money. I really don't understand why you would but a general daily admission ticket at the gate. Why not get a pass and visit today and in the summer when the park is in full operation? But that is just my opinion.

    General Admission: $49.99 + $8 parking

Season Pass: $79.99 + Free Parking + Unlimited Visits + Discounted Food + Dollar Drinks

  3. 650,000 for attendance seems more reasonable. However, in the article that The Interpreter posted, it said "And it's on target toward its goal of soon entertaining over a million people each year..."  Maybe the wrong numbers were reported? I don't know. That confused me quite a bit as how feasible and realistic is that goal?

When you have a goal, you got to have a plan. I am sure we will find out soon.

  4. Kentucky Kingdom made a public announcement in September of there major newest additions. Through the off season they decided to add two new family rides and a new movie in the 5D theatre. I do not understand why you guys are having a fit about this. That news interview posted in this thread earlier was just an interview for a local morning show in Louisville. The park has also went to other stations to share the news of the new rides and the parks opening date. What is the big deal?

  5. Why didn't you bring it up with those people higher than your manager? No disrespect, but in order to get what you want out of life you have to speak up right when you come across a problem not matter how small it is at the time. I am not saying you didn't speak up, but it seems as though there was a train line of events that leaded you to walk away. Every job isn't the greatest, I am sure an amusement park that has just reopened for the first time in 5 years with a whole new staff wouldn't be great. When someone or anybody makes a mistake, whether it is you, your job, whoever, you build and improve on the flaw, which is maturity. Not speaking up will eventually take you on the wrong road driving you away from your dreams.

  6. I am very optimistic. The question is do outsiders know that Kentucky Kingdom has reopen? Most of you guys have stated that you have seen nothing about Kentucky Kingdom last summer in your areas in terms of advertising etc. The park has already stated that they have not marketed outside the boundaries of the Louisville area. I remember when I was at the sea lion show at the park last summer an instructor asked the crowd who was outside of the Louisville area. No one had raised their hand to her question. If it is true that outsiders have no idea of the parks reopening, the park should be in good standing. I doubt the Louisville crowd will back away from the park. I cant tell you all how many people in Louisville have stated they will wait to see how the first year of operations will go since it has been closed so long.Think about it, a commercial to untouched markets by the kingdom of our countries tallest body slide, along with many new attractions from last season (including the sea lions), on top of the 7/4 additions this upcoming season.

I dont expect the park to hit 1 million in attendance until a significant ride is added. But the park is expanding fast, and I bet that attraction is coming soon

  7. WTOP Newsradio in the Nation's Capital reports Louisville has just passed an increase in the Jefferson County minimum wage, to $9, to be implemented over three years, the first such increase, it says, in the South.

One wonders how much impact this will have on Jefferson County's premier amusement and water park.

Starting pay this past season was $8.50....those employees who come back in 2015 will be getting paid $9.00 according to some article I read back in September

  8. A local news station made did a story about this and posted the news on facebook. There was at least 200 comments on that facebook posting and each commented said straight up that the fair was too expensive. Someone also said it is just cheaper to go to either Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World then the fair.

In my opinion the fair is the same thing every year and nothing new are changes occur. The same set up, same rides, its just boring and it is expensive.

  9. Hart said he believes the first season is a sign of success for the future because it was a shortened season and because the park marketed only in Louisville and Lexington. Revenue and attendance were hurt, he said, by winter weather that delayed the summer recess for schools.

Next year, Hart said, more than $1 million will be invested into marketing in secondary markets, such as Nashville and Indianapolis. The park frequently spent $2 million or $3 million a year in those markets when Hart previously owned it.

After reading this quote and thinking deeply, (deeply meaning more than just the words shown above in the quote) I feel as though it was the right decision. Kentucky Kingdom is no where near it's potential right now. It is going to take time for the park to get to its FULL capability again. As it gets closer to its potential, the park should advertise the park more to other metropolitan areas. You should know your park, you should know if it is good enough for outside consumers to want to come back year after year. Kentucky Kingdom was NOT that this year. That is simply why I believe it was the right decision. Once the park starts reopening attractions and bringing in marquee attractions, that is when you should start to advertise the park to outside markets.

  10. I'm finding similarities between this case and the one that closed SoB in 2009. These injuries are not to be taken lightly. Some believe that lawsuits are easy ways for scammers to make money, which causes such comments like those on the Facebook post and the ones that haunted this forum for years.

I hope the two injured and their families are doing well.

These cases are different in my opinion.

  11. Two park goers files lawsuits against Kentucky Kingdom

    http://www.wdrb.com/story/26774284/two-lawsuits-filed-alleging-untrained-staff-at-kentucky-kingdom-led-to-water-slide-injuries

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A pair of lawsuits have been filed against Kentucky Kingdom alleging staff at Hurricane Bay is improperly trained and allowed the plaintiffs to use the wrong tube for the water slide they were on, causing them to fall out and hurt themselves.

The lawsuits were filed by attorney Hal Friedman on behalf of Brandon McClellan and Felicia Evans, who Friedman believes were on the ride together.

Both lawsuits claim staff at the water park instructed and/or allowed the plaintiffs to use the wrong tube for the slide they were on, which is what caused them to fall out of the tube and get hurt.

McClellan claims to have suffered a shoulder injury in the fall, while Evans claims to have suffered a head injury which causes her seizures.

Evans's lawsuit alleges staff members at the bottom of the slide were improperly trained on what to do in the event of an injury. When Evans reached the bottom of the slide, the lawsuit states she “received little or no assistance from Kentucky Kingdom employees, who appeared untrained and unclear regarding their obligations or responsibilities.”

The lawsuits ask for punitive damages and compensation for the plaintiffs in an amount to be determined based on the facts of the case.

Kentucky Kingdom sent the following statement:

We do not comment on pending litigation. For their own safety, we expect guests to follow all instructions relating to rider responsibilities. This includes the instructions given by Kentucky Kingdom's ride operators, pre-recorded audio instructions and signs posted at each attraction which detail the park's rules and regulations for that attraction.

  12. I just passed the park on the expressway and it appears that T3 is already being repainted in what looks to be the ride's original red color, or something very similar.

What portion of the ride was painted? It just seems to quick that the ride is already in the process of being repainted from Sunday imo. But then again, the winter is coming.

  13. Why not put the new rides along the obnoxiously long, drawn-out path that currently leads literally to T3, Raging Rapids, and nothing else?

Sometimes the future effects ride placement...

Also, you have two pathways that lead to T2 and Raging Rapids. You have the long pathway that you enter from Thunder Run and you have the pathway where you could just cut through Hurricane Bay

  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kR6KVRAX9A

This news story stated the park made a commitment of spending $43.5 million in the first 3 years. The park spent $40 million in the first year, and plans on spending $8-10 million in the second year.

Did any of you non local guys see any form of advertisement of Kentucky Kingdom in your area? I did not know the park did not advertise in Indy along with Cincinnati and other major areas.
