  1. I don't know where he heard this, but a friend of mine said that a guy who has no trouble fitting on Diamondback had to do the walk of shame on WindSeeker, because while his belt buckled, the driver was getting a message that it wasn't locked enough. I need an extra push on Diamondback, so I don't even want to go near WindSeeker until I find out for sure.

  2. I can't stand the photo ambush. It's the worst part of any day at KI. And it's the first thing that happens to one as they enter the park. Hell of a welcome wagon.

Whenever I go with friends, I tell everyone to split up and regroup by the theater on the other side of them. They're like paparazzi but at least the paparazzi take pictures of relevant people.

  3. You get a lot of exercise while walking around at the park, so it isn't unusual for a ride you fit on just fine at the end of last year to be a close fit or no-go at the beginning of this year. Just try to squeeze in a few TOP*GUN rides in your park visits.

  4. Yeah the seat dimensions wouldn't do a lot unless you were well above the size. Most of the time a large person can fit in the seat but the restraint wont engage enough. When I got on Firehawk, the seat was fine but the lap bar only clicked once. I said "oh well just let me off" but the ride ops seemed determined to make it work so I got stapled in. But I got to ride it so all's well I guess.

Flight of Fear and Drop Zone seem to be the most restrictive rides to guests of exceptional size. One reason I liked Son of Beast was that the seats were quite comfortable to me, where as smaller people often complained about getting rattled around. But it doesn't look like that one will be re opening any time soon.

The bad thing about walking up the exit to test a seat is that if you don't fit you end up taking the walk of shame anyway. You just save time from waiting in line.

What it comes down to is if you want to be able to ride anything, the best way is to lose weight. It's doable - I know from experience. If your problem is that you're too tall I guess there isn't a lot you can do about it. Some of the rides have a maximum height limit. The ones that don't you can usually get wedged into - it just isn't that comfortable.

  5. They do extensive simulations on a ride like this before building it. It shouldn't need trims. If they trim this brand new roller coaster, they're just being silly. Trim brakes on a first drop make no sense. It's like building a race car and putting a four cylinder engine in it.

Graying out / tunnel vision is kind of fun. It happened to me once on Face/Off. I did completely lose consciousness once on Son of Beast though - that wasn't as fun.

  6. I read through this whole thing not realizing that it was two years old.

A friend of mine went a few weeks ago. I think he got discounted tickets somewhere. He isn't a coaster enthusiast or anything like that. He went with his sister, and they basically just hit Diamondback then spent a few hours in the water park then left. He didn't see any reason to stay longer.

He didn't spend any money other than the discounted tickets that he bought and the locker rental fee. So I don't think convincing some season pass holders to buy tickets is going to help anything. And if someone was planning on visiting more than once why would they not buy a season pass anyway? Do they just enjoy giving Cedar Fair more money than they could otherwise give them by being a pass holder? Is over spending a hobby?

I think Ryan's points are very well made. I think that #1, #2 and #5 are the major ones. The park kind of has a vibe of "We're glad you came but if you hadn't it's all the same. Plenty of other people out there to give us money." Look at a park like Disney World or Busch Gardens or Holiday World. Guest perception is so much better at these parks.

As far as security I think they could make the place seem more safe without actually adding more security. Just do some things more neatly - like the metal detectors. Even some cosmetic things done to some of the rides make the place seem more safe - even if it doesn't directly involve security. Rides missing lights or in need of painting give guests the idea that the ride might not be 100%.

  7. Using a POV video is really a great idea for this. I would pick a more complicated ride than Beast or Diamondback though: Beast is great but has alot of flat spots and Diamondback is just hill after hill after hill.

I would use something like Vortex with its six loops, or Invertigo maybe. If you will be talking about mass extinction events in this timeline, Son of Beast would be a good choice.

  8. Yeah I have noticed alot of people stealing The Interpreter's signature tagline - where he ends a post with something like "Terpy, who wonders how deep the rabbit hole goes" or something like that.

I don't see how anyone could complain about the Interpreter himself. He's one of the most contributing members of the forum community, and a really cool guy.

  9. Nah it was fine. That was in the early days. Was just funny cause it was during the same time as the Survivor and Photoshop topics - and that game where you say something about the person that posts before you, and the person that's going to post after you. Great times. That's the kind of stuff I miss.

The stuff like Diamondback vs Little Bill's Giggle coaster is just getting a little carried away.

  10. I have to agree with Tom. I'm sure all of the new people disagree, but the forum community has changed ALOT over the last five years. It's just part of what happens to a forum community that amasses such a huge number of users. Go to any forums out there - theme park related or not - and you'll see that you have two distinct groups: the oldies and the noobs. The fact that this disparity exists is responsible for many conflicts.

You have people who want to make all these polls or the one hundredth "What's your favorite ride?" topic or the "Quiz Show" if anyone remembers that. The people who have been around a long time get irritated at this, and topics get closed and deleted, then the new people cant figure out why and arguments start.

Now if we can all act like adults who have a passion (and wish to hear others' thoughts on the matter,) then the boards will return to the former glory that it once was. If we cannot, well, I have a feeling that the few will ruin it for the many.
