  4. Check out this excellent video footage of the 1937 flood. There's a great 20 second shot of Coney Island at the 5:00 mark. coneyrat
  5. Is this the picture you are referring to? http://www.shorpy.com/node/1513?size=_original

  7. Great video. Some of these scenes are included in "GREETINGS FROM CONEY ISLAND, CINCINNATI" which is well worth checking out. I'm still looking for a copy of "CONEY ISLAND: RELIVE THE MAGIC", if anyone knows where to find one please let me know. I've tried PBS, the library and just about everywhere else. Again, great find! coneyrat
  8. I didn't realize the links had already been posted. Oh well, I guess they are worth a second look. If you take a look at coaster1robert's website (http://coaster1robert.tripod.com/id42.html) he mentions that he has high resolution Coney pics available to anyone who wants them. I've e-mailed him several times to get copies but never heard back from him. Maybe one of you will have some luck if you're interested in getting the high res pics
  9. Just thought I'd pass these links along.............. http://picasaweb.google.com/coaster1robert...ncinnati__Ohio# Coneyrat
  10. My first memory of the Zoom Flume wasn't a very good one. I was about 9 or 10 at the time and the swimming trunks I had on didn't slide too well on the slide and they actually slowed me down quite a bit. The person in line behind me ended up catching up with me and we landed in the bottom pool at the same time. Once we got out the lifeguard yelled at me and kicked me off the slide for the rest of the day. Needless to say, I was devastated Here it is about 20 years later and I'm going to Coney tomorrow for Children's Hospital Day. I'm going to ride the Zoom Flume as much as I can and I'm going to raise my butt to get the maximum speed!! Too bad that same lifeguard won't be around, I'd love to give him a good punch in the mouth :-)
  11. I agree. The park definitely needs to have a modern tribute to what once was. The mall would be a nice touch since the open space is available.
  12. DiSab, Go for the lawn unless you absolutely want to see the band up close. The tickets are cheaper and you are free to move around as much as you want. Take a Poncho just in case it rains. Believe me, there are just as many drunks in the pavilion as there are in the lawn. One more thing, I saw Rush from the lawn last year and it was awesome. We could hear with no problems at all coneyrat
  13. I took a drive over the 275 bridge next to Coney the other day and I couldn't help but notice how much of an eye sore the national city pavilion is. coneyrat
  14. Yes, "Relive the Magic" is a PBS produced special that was made back in the 80's. I do remember seeing several channel 12 personalities. Before posting my original message, I contacted PBS and they referred me to CET. CET is aware of the special but they say that they are not licensed to distribute. Media outlets like Amazon do not carry the special, same goes for the local library. I plan on checking out what Coney Island has for sale in their local shop. I did recently purchase "GREETINGS FROM CONEY ISLAND, CINCINNATI" and I have to say that it is worth checking out if you haven't seen it. It's got tons of old footage and it covers the major changes in the park over the years. I'm not sure if it's available locally but I do know it can be purchased from the address below http://members.aol.com/taymed/catalog.htm TYP Distributors 1218 East Main Street New Albany, IN 47150 coneyrat
  15. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of CONEY ISLAND: RELIVE THE MAGIC ? I've tried PBS, CET, the Library and I've searched all over on the net but so far I've had no luck. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks coneyrat
