  1. Standbyme, I too am one that never replied yet in this posting. Admittedly, I'm more of a viewer on the site than I am a regular poster. This topic kept me excited to come back to the site every day and see the newest comparison pictures. For a few days after it ended, I assumed that no new pictures were up because you were busy with the holidays... then I realized you had mentioned that you had posted the last one. Just like everyone else, I was sad to see it end. The amount of effort and quality you put into this is phenomenal. Thanks for such a great topic. Another thanks goes out to Hendricks for the fades, as they really helped with noticing the similarities and changes. Probably one of my favorite topics of all time. I would really consider talking to someone within KI and seeing if you can publish a photo book with what you have and maybe even more! Thanks again!
  2. But you also now have Diamondback in the picture too! I'd say that is more fun than Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal! Granted that likely could have been built over and around KCKC/the lake. Can you imagine?
  3. I'd say it is more like 100%. CP has announced that they will have a "big" announcement concerning 2013 during their 2012 Coastermania event.
  4. So why does everyone seem to believe that only CP OR KI can get a new coaster in the same year? Why can't they both get one? It's not like CF hasn't added more than one coaster in a year before... who's to say it couldn't be both CP and KI? I highly doubt a memo went out that said "hey, only one of you can get a coaster in the same year... now fight for it!" Anyway, it seems CP is more overdue than KI.
  5. I believe you are correct. Even Google Maps satellite image shows all the track is gone, and I believe the imagery is usually a few years old. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Kings+Island+Dr,+Mason,+OH+45040&hl=en&ll=39.341264,-84.261242&spn=0.003348,0.00655&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=55.455479,107.314453&vpsrc=6&t=h&z=18
  6. Look at this image I just happened to catch just a few minutes ago. It was gone when I refreshed the page a minute later.
  7. I think a B&M Dive Coaster would go great in that spot, but they are a little expensive. And the reason I don't see us getting a Dive Machine is all in the marketing - "New in 2011 - a brand new coaster that's the same height as Diamondback, but not quite as long, and goes the same speed and its 10 degrees steeper." The fact of the matter is, even the largest Dive Machines share nearly identical statistics with Diamondback, and one of the things that sets Dive Machines apart traditionally is the splashdown... Diamondback already has it. I'd die of happiness if a Dive Machine did come. I'm just saying that the marketing force might not be there. It's like if Cedar Point had Diamondback and Magnum. Both are incredibly different coasters experientially, but it's hard to market it to the general public without the similarities being all that stand out. At least, that's the way I would see it. Working in it's favor, Dive Machines really aren't that expensive. Griffon - the largest one on Earth - was $15,000,000. That's about two-thirds the cost of Diamondback. Granted, the ride would appear to use much less steel, but still. I'd definitely say it's worth that cost from a rider standpoint. You have a good point. A Invert or Floorless coaster would work there too. Interesting that you note Griffon, and also comment on the fact that it'd be hard to market a dive machine that would be "similar" to Diamondback... Yet right across the park from Griffon, is Apollo's Chariot.
  8. So I guess this leaves no doubt for SOB, huh?
  9. That's like saying why ride Magnum when Millennium Force is just across the park. Or if a park has two woodies, one taller than the other... each is its own individual experience. I'm assuming since the conference was set the same days as Cedar Point, that both are getting the same ride.. seemingly the WindSeeker
  10. Way to rehash a rumor for "next" season, but the posting was made in Sept. 2009. So essentially, the time frame has come and gone, and it has obviously not occurred (as expected). Pay attention to posting dates!
  11. I agree.... I hope it was a typo, but I'm assuming it isn't. I would hope that someone familiar with or from the area would know how to spell "Cincinnati" correctly.
  12. You gotta make it visible to the public...
  13. Cedar Point is notorious for coatings of bugs on hot, humid nights in the summer. My worst was on MF last season, and I was coated, COATED, with bugs. And I'm not talking 20 or 25 like a few previous posters have mentioned... I'm talking 25 on each arm, even more on my body, face and head.... So bad that I covered my face with my shirt. Made for QUITE a ride experience. What was even more entertaining was the on ride photo with EVERY person covering themselves. I was in the front seat taking a lot of the hits. We literally had to go to wash off after. I sure will never forget that ride. Dragster can be almost as bad... to the extent of them cleaning the fronts of the cars off as they came back.
  14. Well since 2009 has closed out, let's post up our favorite photos from 2009, from any park. I swore I had seen a picture topic, but can't find it now... Not only that, I've been wanting to show off these 2 pix! (they were taken from my phone, so go easy!).
  15. The gum was gone when I was there a few weeks back...Guess they finally painted. It seemed much better just minus the gum.
  16. It's just you. The trim right after the 1st drop, after the tunnel, dropping into the 2nd drop butchered the ride IMO. The magnetic brakes seems to slow the train much more than the days of old. It seems to meander all the way to the 2nd lift. That 2nd drop used to have great air time. Please bring it back to its old self CF.
  17. IMO, while Zoombezi Bay has good potential being completely revamped a few years back, it was WAY too expensive for what the park offers thus far. If I recall, I paid $25 or $30 just for the water park. Being that there isn't that many slides, it seemed like too much to me.
  18. Well I've never been a negative commenter on the SOB issue... But at this point, it almost seems as though CF has decided enough is enough. I could be wrong, but who knows. IMO, I hope that it's life is short, and will be replaced with a GCI or Gravity Group ride. Thunderhead is great, as is Voyage. The early teasers for CP for 2010 seem to be pointing to GCI (see CPs Facebook), so let's hope a good relationship is continued, and we see one soon at KI.
  19. I won one of those massive snakes at CP in the softball toss game where you throw them into the buckets. I made the first 2 I threw. It really was way too easy; I don't see how people think it's so hard! Anyway, I realized how annoying it was going to be carrying the snake around for the next few hours, so I just set it down on the lockers at TTD, totally expecting it to be stolen when I came back. An hour or so later, when we came back, of course it was. No big loss. But still kind of pathetic.
  20. So do lots of people, but there has not been another coaster like it, not even at previously competing parks such as (insert Six Flags park here), let alone one of their other parks. Ohh, well, the ride opp said so, so it must be true. It just gets back to the ole' lemon chill guy. HA. The Guest Relations Manager most likely knows, unless this is one of the most secretive projects in industry history, which I doubt. In fact, most park employees know or will know at one point. They are contracted to secrecy however, and can not say such things. I bet you he was just messing with you. If this is a smaller scale ride then why all the site preps & track/support deliveries this early?KD doesn't typically take delivery of coaster components in early june....nor have they ever started site clearing this early in the season. It's probably gonna be a giga & that means that CP will no longer be the only park with that type of ride in the US....not like they even care since the park has installed a bigger ride in the years since then & besides CF is impressed with KD's performance so that's another reason why a large investment like this makes sense for the park. So you're saying because they started site clearing in June, that it's a giga coaster? Come on... That doesn't mean anything. Site clearing for DB started before the park even opened for the year.
  21. That guy is a complete jackball. Like Vietnam? Come on.. Try living on OSU south campus right by the hospitals and helicopters practically landing on your dorm roof. Or in the campus area in the CMH flight path (not as bad as CVG), and always have the police chopper hovering over the area, along with the hospital helicopters. Besides, how popular were the helicopter flights? Didn't seem overly popular. It didn't really bother me here and it was fairly constant, so how can a few times a day, TOPS, be that bad? Come on..
  22. Ooooh the irony of this title.... and the ensuing post.
  23. There's more than 3 I believe, granted some on this list aren't operating still...: http://www.rcdb.com/ir.htm?model=180 I also believe another company makes a similar ride, but I can't think of who. Either way, they are definitely a rare style ride. I'm not sure it's a must ride if you've ridden, but it is "interesting"
  24. Alright hopefully posting this is OK. I was also there for media day. My thoughts: The midway looks great. The sign looks amazing, especially with the adding of more to the sign.. The queue line TVs are a nice touch, though hard to see in harsh sun. The gift shop has a nice setup and really has the western feel. The exit back to the midway seems to be solely a handicap entrance. Everyone must go through the giftshop (at least today). The ride itself: Front is full of airtime! It's an odd sensation to get airtime, then get shoved as rest of the train catches up. The best seat IMO, and I'm not usually a front seat guy. The middle is fairly tame, not too much G's in either way, but still a fun ride. The back has lots of airtime too. It's a little more intense in the positive G category it seemed. The ride was running great, even with mostly empty cars, and it seemed to speed up as it warmed up. Also, sitting in the back seat during the splash is very intimidating! IT'S HUGE! The back also gives you that yanked feeling over the first hill! The third hill was definitely a huge pop of air, and rather surprising. The first drop felt very similar to MF's. All told, I rode 8 times, in scattered rows, and the front was my favorite. The trim break after the hammerhead didn't affect much, and huge airtime still soon follows. The MCBR wasn't grabbing too much either. My only disappointment of the ride was the final helix. It seemed very tame and not very intense, yet somehow there was still a nice pop of air dropping into the lake, so I can't complain. The cars look AWESOME with the eyes and teeth! And the seats are amazing. A trick I heard previously, and held true today. The SECOND row is basically a front seat, yet the wait is MUCH less than the actual front. Just a thought for ya all tomorrow. The buffet provided was also very nice, and I want to say THANK YOU to KI for making such a nice day out of it. Weather was perfect, and the ride is VERY photogenic. Thanks for a great day KI! Have fun tomorrow everyone!
