Very sad day indeed! Thanks for the memories! They sped up the demolition before the meeting with Anderson Twp. officials. Sneaky to the end! Shame on you CSO. pilotank

Although I never worked directly for Coney, our family business sold kettlekorn for over 20 years at Coney for special events such as Summer Fair and Balloon Glow. We also sold everyday at our little outbuilding by The Python, until the rides were removed for the second time. We saw close to 30,000 patrons depending on what day Balloon Glow landed. Our family also were season pass holders from the year they started them Both sets of my grandparents met at Moonlight Gardens. I always hoped as CoastersRZ had, that the rides would come back. My daughter was a lifeguard and was credited for saving a high diver's life when his dive went wrong during a show by touring firefighters. If you look at the 275 beltway between the southern part of Ohio, eastern part of Indiana and northern Ky, this region has a population of 2.4 million. Actually more than what KI has. I wish they would have completed a feasibility study, I truly believe Coney could have made a great comeback to it's glory days. Now we will never know. Thank-you CoastersRZ for your posts and insight through the years. We didn't agree on everything, but I always respected your opinion. Pilotank

Coney Islands train that is still running in Lake Winnie Amusement Park in Chattanooga, was the model that Walt Disney used for his train in Disneyland. Disney returned the favor by having his design company make the blueprints for The Racer at KI. Pilotank

Coney Island Cincinnati to remove all rides
pilotank replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Coney Island Central
Channel 5 news reported 13 full time positions and 270 seasonal positions will be lost. I got a bad feeling when they axed Falloween back in July. I agree with KI Guy, 100%. Just follow the money trail. pilotank -
Coney Island Cincinnati to remove all rides

Could it be a coincidence or Pittsburgh Conspiracy ? On this date the Island Queen was destroyed. How ironic: Today in History, September 9: Coney Island's Island Queen steamboat destroyed. On Sept. 9, 1947, Coney Island's steamboat Island Queen was destroyed in an explosion while docked at Pittsburgh's Monongahela River Wharf. Coney Island Cincinnati to remove all rides

Dear CoasterRZ, My heart goes out to you. I lost my mom right before the season opened up. My sister still carries her pass. My mom and dad met at a big band concert at Moonlight Gardens. She was a season pass member since they started selling season passes. My thoughts and prayers for you and your family. pilotank -
Coney Island Cincinnati to remove all rides

So I judge popularity by how much Sweetmaize Kettle Korn we sell at the old Ticket Booth. This year was a record breaking year, which included Balloon Glow, Kroger's, Tri-Health and Christ Hospital this past summer to name just a few. I believe all the corporate picnics will be lost. I have always been a proponent to expand the rides at Coney. There's more than one million people who live in the 275 beltway south of I-74. More than enough to support an updated amusement park. Coney just took two steps backward to 1972. I can see it now being sold to the Gaming Industry. Sad day for Historical Coney Island. pilotank -
Looks like we are not quite done yet! You can understand why CI moved to KI, but it sure wold be nice for it to return to it's glory days. Pilotank

I agree!! Also, I would love to see inside pictures of the Windjammer:) Pilotank

A few observations: The overflow parking lot where the ferry parked by the lighthouse was used as a campground for the Boy Scouts over every Memorial Weekend Many of the Ginkgo ice cream push-up trees are still there They still had duo ways to ride the rides, tickets and POP Since then, Lake Como's configuration was changed. Excellent posts! Pilotank

Since CI has close to a million people living within a 15 mile radius, I would like to see the midway brought back with many of the old style rides back. I know Riverbend is located where the turnaround for the Shooting Star is, however it could be redesigned. I work Balloon Glow and some crowds are estimated at over 20,000 people. You can always dream! Pilotank

Check out this video of the former Six Flags Park in New Orleans has been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina hit the area more than 10 years ago: https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/video/abandoned-and-left-to-rot-over-a-decade-ago pilotank

The only thing left is a plaque in the Business Office of the Cincinnati Water Works. Which is ironic, because the reason they closed is that the didn't pay their water bill . I was surprised it didn't survive because they had better public transportation than Coney. pilotank

Was the Wild Mouse moved to Kings Island?
pilotank replied to Coney Islander's topic in Coney Island Central
Speaking of WCET and documentaries, has anyone gained access to Relive the Magic? I think it is ca 1984. I have been looking for years without any luck:( pilotank -
Isn't it sad and ironic that the final trip of the Island Queen was to Pittsburg:( Fantastic job and thanks for bringing it back to life. pioltank

And who can forget the beginning of The Banana Splits: It shows The Log Flume, Lost River, Moonlight Gardens and many more... pilotank

Did they ever install a center rail? My older brother said he remembers one about ca 1970. pilotank

http://www.cincinnativiews.net/images/Coney%20Island%20Large.jpg Hopefully you can see part of the pond/fountain from this post card. I actually meant near Moonlite Pavilion. One of the maintenance workers told me that they had to replace the original roof because of dry rot from non-use and flooding. So they removed the roof over the dance floor and adapted it for Moonlight Pavilion. I am looking for documentation. Hope to post it soon. pilotank

The original water fountain by Coney's Moonlite Pavilion is still there but recently was upgraded. It use to have a flower clock adjacent to it. The roof over Moonlite Gardens is now over Moonlite Pavilion. Many of the Ice Cream Push-up Ginko Trees are still there. You also can see parts of the original midway looking east from the Moonlite Gardens. pilotank

Wow! What a great addition! Too bad we lost the title of World's Largest Circulating Pool. At least we still have largest in North America pilotank -
16th Annual LaRosa`s Balloon Glow at Coney Island
pilotank replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
It was great! I heard crowd estimates at over 30,000! We ran out of Kettle Corn by the time the fireworks started. And the rain stayed away. The rides stayed open past midnight! pilotank -
They better move them fast. The Ohio River is approaching flood stage. Riverbend has already canceled the James Taylor concert! pilotank
-
Yes, Congratulations! What was nice is the placement of the rides. Right where the midway use to be. pilotank
