  1. Definitely more green space, less asphalt , more lakes and water! pilotank
  2. Coney Island has one too: http://www.wcpo.com/content/webcams/coney.aspx as well as Perfect North. They seem all to be from WCPO-TV for weather and not from the parks themslves. pilotank
  3. Phantom Theater was the place for me... ha ha! Which, along with the activities of many, many others each day (sigh), is one of the primary reasons Phantom Theater is no more. And that the new ride has things to keep peoples' hands and eyes busy doing things....shooting guns... I was on it the other day with my son, and my gun didn't even work! Maybe I'll ride it again with my husband for some real entertainment! BA-HA! A round trip on The Sky Ride wasn't bad at night. Not quite "The Mile High Club" pilotank
  4. The drinking age was 18 for 3.2% beer. That was half the alcohol content of an ordinary beer. Some states still sell it. You would have to consume twice as much for the same effect. Also, I remember a little "Smoking in the Boys Room" for my grad night. We did find out the next day someone fell and landed on the Eiffel Towers elevator. pilotank
  5. WHERE HAS ALL THE WATER GONE? If you look at the 1972 brochure, there are actually four bodies of water. 1) Oktoberfest 2) Rivertown 3) Ohio Overland Auto Livery 4) Kenton's Cove http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/1972/pki197x_1.html Now there is none. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl They may have to change the name from Islands to Desert! lol pilotank
  6. I agree totally that Coney does stand on it's own, and it is a different feel. However many people get caught up in the nastalgia of the park. My kids have fun, but it is apples and oranges. They can't compare the same experiences that the previous five generations of my family experienced. Especially when they watch "Greeting from Coney Island" and now are at the age where they understand what Coney use to be. pilotank
  7. Kings Island's Flying Scooters, known as the Flying Eagles, did come from Coney Island of Ohio. A ten tub Bisch Rocco set of Flying Skooters, they were produced in 1935. Various sources indicate they were installed in either 1935, 1936 or even 1940. See, for instance, the year 1940 here: http://coneyisland.KICentral.com/timeline.php The Carowinds website says 1935: http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=293 In any event, they certainly were not there in the 1920's... And are sadly missed now.... Thanks, I thoght the Flying Scooters came in with tht Flying Spaceship. That was in the 20's. pilotank
  8. 1) The Flying Scooters-originally from CI ca.1920's 2) Ocktoberfest- Keggers 3) Brady Bunch 4) Grad Night 5) Winterfest pilotank
  9. I agree completely. I think CoastersRZ would have more information on it. Not only the Shooting Star would be nice, but let's bring back Coney like it use to be. The Mall, put Dodgem's back in the Rides building with The Whip and Cuddle Up etc... The problem is that I get the feeling that current owners and management at Coney wants the rides to compliment Sunlite Pool, and not have an "Amusement Park" per say probably due to the flooding issues and upfront costs. I personally believe a viable Coney could come back and not take anything away from Kings Island. Remember, Coney used to draw 2.75 million/ yr. The population within the I-275 belt is close to two million. Three times the amount in the 60's. My great grandparents, grandparents and parents all enjoyed Coney. In fact, my mom & dads first date was Coney and Moonlite Gardens. I went as a kid and was there during it's closure. Now my kids are enjoying Coney, but to a lesser extent. It would be great to bring it back. It definitely was a one-of-a kind exoerience. Nothing matches Coney Island today. pilotank
  10. I actually saw Buffet up in Mt.Adams before his heyday. That's where he actually got his real start in Cincinnati. Apparently his song Fins is based on a girl from Cincinnati that picked him up hitch-hiking, somewhere near Eden Park. pilotank
  11. I wonder if KI is considered one of the oldest parks because it was a continuation of Coney Island since it's inception in 1867. However Coney is now it's own entity now. Maybe Coasters RZ would know this. pilotank
  12. The pre-party at Moonlite Gardens isn't bad either! I've seen campers across the street on Kellog two days before the concert. You may not remember the Dead Heads camping out days before the Grateful Dead concerts. They would take baths in the Ohio River. pilotank
  13. Yeah it's too bad. Buffet moved to Riverbend shortly after that. It's not the same because the audience is split between the pavilion and the lawn. At Timberwolf, EVERYBODY had fun, and was part of the show.
  14. 1986 Jimmy Buffet. It was the concert that the term Parrot Heads was coined. Too many margaritas, we had to let every car leave the parking lot to find ours. pilotank
  15. It happened close to twenty years ago. It may be in the Cininnati Enquirer Archives. I doubt that Deerfield Twp. F.D. still has the medic run report. Doug Koch is a District Chief with Mason now. I was on the run with him. pilotank
  16. One thing that happened in front of the cemetery was four Mason High School kids were killed in a head on collision. I was a paramedic at that time and all four were dead at the scene. A 16 YOA girl was sent to the store by her mother and was struck by three of her classmates traveling at a high rate of speed. All four were in the same grade and home room. That is the reason they put a guard rail around that bend by the cinemas. pilotank
  17. Check out Paranormal Activity in the Coney Island forum. I was wondering if there is any at Kings Island also. I don't have the history of KI, but I know a few patrons and workers have met thier untimely demise. pilotank
  18. On July 25th, 1935, Amusement Park Chief George F. Schott died unexpectedly while attending business at Moonlite Gardens. In the summer of 1966, William Bomkamp, an 18 YOA UC student, fell to his death from the last run of the night on the Shooting Star. In 1947, Josephine Rosenfeld, of Westwood, died when she fell from a Merry Go round horse. In May of that same year, Lucille Clemons died when she fell off the Shooting Star. Ironically that same year. the Island Queen blew up in Pittsburg, PA killing 19 crew members. My now deceased next door neighbor used to work security at Coney back in the heyday of the park. He often talked of ghostly sightings around the park, specifically ghostly aberrations in and around Moonlite Gardens. I was wondering with the popularity of ghost hunters, if anyone else has experienced or heard of any parasnormal activity.
  19. However, back in the 60's, The Wildcat roller coaster actually took up the eastern most portion of the mall. It wasn't extended until the Wildcat was demolished and the Skyride was added. Also, rides can be moved. Your aerial photo's actually show how much Coney needs to do something aesthetic with that space. Flowers, hedges, trees and sod has always been the hallmark of Coney. Not to mention cheaper than rides. pilotank
  20. It has been a while since anyone has posted on Relive the Magic? I have also struck out. Does anyone have it? pilotank
  21. This may have already been posted, however the opening of the Bananna Splits shows The Mall, Turnpike, Log Flume, Merry -Go-Round Slide and Dodgems! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2se2I70CJ0...feature=related This one is longer, not as much Coney but better quality! pilotank
  22. Chester Park was located across from Spring Grove Cemetery. Yesteryear: http://www.soaphs.com/chesterindex.htm Today: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&...=Cincinnati,+OH Lagoon Lake in Ludlow, Ky. Yesteryear: http://www.kenton.lib.ky.us/gen/kenton/ludlow/places2.html Today: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=31...sa=N&tab=wl 312 Lake St. was the Clubhouse @ Lagoon Lake pilotank
  23. Is there any chance of Coney re-doing The Mall back to it's original style? All the main buildings such as Moonlite Gardens to anchor it, the Cafeteria, Rides Building and La Rosa's outline the original Mall. It would bring back memories and definitely upgrade the aesthetics. See:http://history.amusement-parks.com/ohioconey.htm It wouldn't be as large because of Riverbend, but could be just as nice! pilotank
