  1. Hands Down, the Zingo at Bell's in Tulsa. I used to go at least every Friday and many Sundays or Saturdays. A long wait on the Zingo was 3 cycles, so I would normally get in over 10 rides a night, without really trying. Now she is sitting some storage building, wondering if she'll ever thrill people again :'(

  2. It is supposed to reach 86 degrees tomorrow. Not hot for most of you, but to me its like standing in the middle of hell.

How can you be a Texas fan when you can't take the heat? :P

Zorba, who is enjoying the "cold" front that came through last night and the cool 95 degrees it left behind.

  3. 1. SOB

    2. The Beast (By Night)

    3. The Racer

    4. The Beast (By Day)

    5. Diamondback

    6. Fairly Odd Coaster

    7. Flight of Fear

    8. Vortex

    9. Firehawk (Line moves way too slow)

    10. Flight Deck (Fun, but short, it has really grown on me though)

    11. Invertigo

    12. Backlot Stunt Coaster

    13. Runaway Reptar

    14. Adventure Express (does nothing for me but hurt my back)

  4. How would all you SoB haters like it if some GP member got hurt on one of your favorite rides, causing it to be shut down or removed? What if some idiot got hurt on Diamondback or The Beast and they caused the park to shut down those! You probably wouldn't like it very much, would you? If you don't like Son of Beast, then don't ride, it's that simple! Just because it's closed down because of one person getting hurt, doesn't mean everyone has to jump on the "Destroy Son of Beast" wagon. Some people actually enjoy Son of Beast, so don't wish it to be removed, because some people like it!

Have you been injured by the ride? No? Then you have NO room to talk. Rode once last year. One year later, my back and neck STILL hurt, even though I've been to the chiropractor multiple times. Similar incidents have been reported by other riders.

Every ride has the ability to hurt someone somehow. The first time I round Racer I had a headache/neck ache for a few days, but I still ride it and it doesn't bother me anymore. Heck, in January I messed up my knee walking on a Beach in LA. It is still bothering me after physical therapy, etc. But I don't go around bashing Long Beach and demanding it be closed.

  5. that's unfortunate. I try to fool them by puting one foot on top of the other so that my knees are higher. Then as they push on the restraint i push up as hard as i can with my legs. It usually works, but can't exactly do that on DB. And I didn't fool a racer op once. he said, "that has to go down further or you can't ride." so I let my legs down and he didn't only pin me down snug... he gave it that one extra click that made it go from uncomfortable to painful. But like i said.. most of the ops are great.

This is what I do also, just push my knee up when they check the bar. On The Racer and Beast you can also push your leg against the side of the bar making it hard for them to push down. One thing I've noticed is that if you try for too much room they will also pin you, so don't get too greedy.

  6. Wooden coasters are not meant to do this sort of stuff, how about we keep that to the steel rides? Plus wouldn't this be impossible? There is so much weight on the track above that over the years would cause cracks.

Nothing (not violating the laws of physics) is impossible in engineering if given enough time and money. As for the wood developing cracks over time all that matters is that it is designed correctly. All metal fatigues, also, some metals loose more than 50% of there strength over time, steel coasters are massively over designed to avoid fatigue problems. This is why things that can not be massively over designed such as airplanes and jet engines has hard life limit. For example a 737 might have a life limit of 100,000 takeoffs and landings, as soon as it did its 100,000th landing it would be removed from service as scrapped.

SOB had cracking problems because it was not designed correctly and the wood 'fatigued.'

EDIT: I am not saying it is a good idea, just possible.

  7. This seems better than the alternative. Parks like Indiana Beach

where there is only a small fee to get in but if You do feel like riding a lot its gonna cost you. I like the idea of paying one price to get in for All the rides and attractions.

Indiana Beach has a pay one price wristband. I personally prefer their approach so parents can go out with their kids and not have to pay a lot. It is a little different when there are shows, etc, like at KI, though.

  8. Kiddie coaster "junior coaster" Wood and Steel

Steel - Mini-mine train at SFOT

Wood - Fairly Odd Coaster (when I was 23, only kid woodie I've ever been on)

Major Wood and Steel non looping

Wood - Judge Roy Scream (when I was 5, rode 3 to a seat with me in the middle) at SFOT

Steel - Runaway mine train at SFOT

Looping Steel and Wood sorry I had to do it.

    Never looping Wood

    Steel - Sliverbuilt Frontier City

    Suspended

    XLR-8 AstroWorld

    Inverted

Great White - Sea World San Antonio

    Launched looped and Non looped

    Looped - Mr. Freeze SFOT

    Non-looped - Backlot street coaster

    Stand up

    Iron Wolf - SFGA

    Water Ride

White Lightning - Bell's Amusement Park

  9. You are comparing one of the most popular rides at Cedar Point in Raptor with a ride that falls somewhere in the middle. Raptor thrilled almost the same number of riders as Millennium Force did last year and was only overshadowed by Magnum. Raptor thrilled more guests than TTD, Maverick, Mantis, Gemini and the rest. So you cannot mpare the lines of the two or even the popularity of the two. That said the ride totals for last year for WT is very similar in numbers to Mantis.

Honestly that area of the park was dead a few years ago, but now with MaXair, WT, Giant Wheel, and All Wheels Extreme it is quite lively. CP has done a nice job of bringing it back.

No. They still haven't done enough. Why does Wicked Twister have almost 150,000 less riders than Corkscrew? Lets compare the stats...

    Year Opened, Top Speed, Height

    Corkscrew - 1976, 48 mph, 85 ft

    Wicked Twister - 2002, 72 mph, 215 ft

You are going to say that Corkscrew has better capacity and can run more trains as well as a 4 inch less height requirement. True. But there is no excuse for a 33 year old ride to be beating a 7 year old one. So... There must be some other reason for the lack of riders because Wicked Twister has Corkscrew beaten in just about everything (except ridership). Consider the midways...

Wicked Twister Midway - WT, DT, Troika, Maxair, Chaos

TTD Midway - TTD, Corkscrew, Magnum, PT, WW, Gemini

Clearly the WT midway is the dead midway of CP. Why else would a 33 year old ride beat a 7 year old hypercoaster? I do agree that CP has done alot to try and renew it but is it enough? I think this year is the make or break year. The novelty has worn off of Maxair and we can't truly settle this until we get the numbers. :)

Shuttles have pretty bad capacity and Corkscrew has high capacity? I personally hate waiting in slow moving lines, so I don't like waiting for WT. The weekend I was there Maxair had a line way out of the queue the entire time. The wheel had a very long line also, Chaos had a 2 to 3 cycle wait.

  10. My first ride on DB, the guy in front of me lost his ceel phone and some change going up the lift. I was able to snag the phone right before it went off the back, but I couldn't reach the change. He was very grateful when I handed his phone back to him at the end of the ride.

Edit: How often do they clean off the net on the first drop?

  11. I believe the park closes at 6pm on Sundays in October, so you'd want to get there at open. Personally, I would really try to go on the Saturday, so you can get a night ride on The Beast. There is nothing quite like The Beast at night.

For rides I would go straight to Firehawk and Flight of Fear at open. Firehawks line moves extremely slow, so you want to get there before there is much of a line. FoF is next to Firehawk and it can get a pretty long line, so might as well knock it out while you are there.

  12. ^^was i the only one not impressed by maverick? the only thing i like about it is the 70 mph launch and the first air-time hill

I think Maverick is fairly fun, but not worth the wait. A few weeks ago I had to wait 45 minutes during the passholders ERT! Last year when I was up there everything was dead, but I had to wait over 1.5 hours for Maverick.
