Kings Island Offers a Perfect Blend
KIfan73 replied to Reclaimer's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I think this will be a nice place for the more "mature" PKI guest to relax, and maybe wait while some of their younger family members are riding coasters. -
Huh? Thats only been there for what, maybe 8 years? I know I'm old, but I agree that I don't see how anybody could like that Nickelodeon crap over Hanna-Barbera characters. Maybe Paramount will get smart...who knows...

PKI Hits the Nail Right on the Head!
KIfan73 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Paramount is a business, and they need people to come in to keep their doors open. I would say that this attraction is what they found that would bring in the right amount of people to justify the cost of building it, and would help them earn their sales projections. -
I think they need to do Retroland. An area of the park that would recreate the old KI. Canoe rides, etc... (anyone can hope)...

1) This may be my favorite part of the park. I love just before you go through the gates, and its a sunny day, of course. I love the view, I love to hear the music playing and seeing everybody heading in, and hearing the fountains. Might be my favorite part of the day. 2) Of course, dodging the picture takers, unless I'm there on a date. 3) Eiffel Tower, Flower Clock, LaRosa's in RT, Vortex, Adventure Express, TG, and then whatever rides I can cram in.

New WOF TimberWolf warning sign
KIfan73 replied to CoastersNSich's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think a sign would be good. What you go through on SOB is nothing like on any of the other coasters in the park. I'm in reasonably good shape, and I feel like I've been in a car accident when I get off of SOB. Someone with some back trouble or something might get injured on SOB, whereas they wouldn't on anything else in the park. I don't think you can really compare The Beast to it, either. SOB is much rougher. -
weak attempt at trying to be like Oceans 11

You know, I haven't been all that excited about IJST, and I've actually almost got tired of reading about it on here, but this is really shaping up to be an amazing looking ride. I am very impressed with the elaborate theming, plus if nothing else, its another coaster to ride at PKI.
-
You know, sometimes I forget face/off is even there. No one ever mentions it. No people that I know that talk about PKI, or on this site. When you think about it rationally, its a decent ride, but its like nobody really cares about it? Any ideas why this is? Or is it just me...
-
I always have to eat in Rivertown. I dont' know, just something about where its at I like. I'm always drawn to the outer edges of the park, I guess. I like the water and the trees. Wish I could go back in time and go to KI when it was mostly water and trees. Maybe one day they will open Retrotown and have recreations of the old KI (yeah, right)...but it would be cool.
-
I always wondered what the wait was for The Beast back when it opened. I always imagine that whole queue completely full... ...I waited for the Magnum at CP for over an hour in the rain, they then shut all the rides down and all we got to ride was the Corkscrew...I waited almost 2 hours for King Cobra one night right before PKI's closing time...
-
I think its the perfect addition to PKI. Gotta have some coffee in the morning. I think PKI could definitely use a GOOD restaurant, like where you get waited on. Its hard to find any real good food, maybe impossible. I mean, you can get a decent hamburger or piece of pizza, but since most people are shelling out big bucks while they're there, it would be nice to at least be able to sit down and be waited on and enjoy the view.
-
I don't care how much into theming PKI gets into, a majority of their crowd is coming because they can offer The Beast, SOB, Vortex, DZ, etc. The theming is nice, but people come because of the big ones.

Yeah..That is a really good idea. The history of the park is so interesting. Jennifer I agree. I first went to the park as a toddler in 1975 (still have pictures of it), and didn't go again until 1992. I eat up any history stuff about PKI. As you walk through some parts of the park, its like going back in time. It would be neat to highlight that aspect of the park some, as I know there are others that feel the same way.
-
I think a museum would be awesome. Maybe on International Street, or Oktoberfest area. Maybe it could sometime down the road be a new section of the park, like a retro area. I also think it would be neat to have, in front of some of the rides, a special sign with picture of what used to be in that spot. This would be interesting to those that had rode it, and ones that had never seen it.

I'm amazed that anyone, especially 25 years ago, had what it took to build something like that. That is just mind boggling, letting it go that far through the woods, and dedicating so much land to it. One of a kind.

I always vote to take The Vortex out because that is the only ride that, for some reason, I am a little afraid of. Not afraid, as in intense, but afraid like its going to fall apart. Especially when the stupid thing hits the brakes right before the corkscrew. I never have any thoughts like that except on The Vortex.

I got this e-mail a few minutes ago. Has anybody else heard about all of this? A team led by a former top Viacom executive has quietly approached the media giant about buying its Paramount Parks unit, The Post has learned. Tom McGrath, who stepped down as head of Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Enterprises last summer, has lined up investment firms Spectrum Equity Partners and GS Capital Partners, Goldman Sachs' private equity arm, to back him in his efforts to acquire the theme parks business, sources familiar with the situation said. As president of Paramount Enterprises and executive vice president of Viacom Entertainment Group, McGrath oversaw Viacom's theme parks, movie theater and music publishing businesses. The group expressed its interest to Viacom earlier this year in an attempt to preempt an auction of Paramount Parks, which is expected within the next few months. Sources say the division  which has amusement parks in North Carolina, Ohio, California and Virginia as well as Canada  could fetch $900 million to $1 billion. Viacom has told bankers that in the next few weeks it plans to begin formally interviewing Wall Street firms to advise on the sale of the unit. However, one source close to the situation said the firm is expected to retain Citigroup to handle the process. However, yesterday, Viacom co-president Tom Freston said in an earnings conference call that the company is in the "early stages of looking at potential opportunities" for Paramount Parks, which is viewed as a noncore asset. A Viacom spokesman would not comment further. McGrath did not return a call seeking comment. Besides the McGrath-led team, other potential buyers for the division include amusement park operators Cedar Fair, L.P. and Universal Parks, which is partly owned by NBC Universal and Blackstone Group, as well as other private equity firms. Six Flags and Busch Entertainment Corp., a subsidiary of brewer Anheuser- Busch, are also viewed as possible but less likely buyers. Viacom is putting its theme parks business on the block in what would be the latest in a string of asset sales at the media empire as it re-evaluates its strategy. As The Post reported in October, Viacom is screening its options for its Famous Players Canadian movie theater chain. The company is in the early stages of an auction, which has already attracted the interest of more than a dozen bidders, sources say.

Is that the area where the Lion Country Safari was? Is it cars from that?

What are those train car appearing things out past SOB in the field??

Wow, I had no idea that post would bring up so much emotion. I was kind of joking because of PKI's trend to theme more and more rides. When I was reading about the new Coach Carter movie, and it was by Paramount, it just popped in my head that PKI had the basketball game. It was kind of a joke, but I could see them possibly re-theming it to the movie. Its just one more way for them to use their brand, but I agree it is probably a bit far-fetched, but who knows.
