  1. Just replace the trains with ones that have lap restraints instead of over the shoulder a-la FOF. To me that's where most of the pain comes from - hitting my head and ears on the restraint.
  2. Sounds like where I work. I took off a half day twice last month to go to KI and on the second time my manager said, "Aren't you a little old to ride those things?" I am 45 and she is only a couple years older than me.
  3. I agree that SOB is very rough. However, if you can ride it last and have about 3-4 beers in you it won't ruin the rest of your day. I haven't ridden Mean Streak in 15 years but the same goes for it as long as you are towards the front.
  4. I'm not sure but the first right turn after the main drop, turns near the tunnel where the tires used to be and in the helix were all flatter than they are now. I have been searching for a date but so far I can't find one. But I have visited the park at least once each year since 1985 so it was sometime after that.
  5. If they would not use the tim brakes The Beast would fall apart and you would probably be knocked out. Well, one day back in 1985 or 1986 I rode The Beast and there were no brakes. At that time the turns were not banked as they are today. Let me just say that was one hell of a ride. I was a little scared going into the helix. It was much smoother then but it did not hurt us at all. In fact we ran around to ride it again but by the time we got on the problem was corrected. Fixed "breaks"
  6. This week in Aug. every year especially from Wed. on is the best time to go. Many schools begin and the park is just empty. I went yesterday as well but did not get there until 4 pm but still rode: The Beast BLSC Vortex FOF Firehawk - got in line at 7:58 - park closed at 8 - very nice Racer - twice Delerium Drop Tower Invertigo Flight Deck - twice - just had to move back a few rows SOB The Crypt was closed when we walked towards The Beast and did not go back. Not bad for a 4 hour visit. Back in 2004 I rode almost everything in 2 hours after volunteering there from 9-2.
  7. BUMP I just checked the calendar and this day is now an open to the public day. Sweeeeet. Unfortunately, I'll be going to the OSU vs Troy game but that's not a bad day either!!
  8. I had a missing burger one time at Wendy's. The problem with that was I went through the drive thru and didn't have time to go back. I was on my half hour lunch break. I called them and they told me the next time I came in I would get some freebies. At least at the park you could just go have it fixed right away.
  9. Well, before Bin Laden I used to sneak in a pint of Bacardi 151 and mix it with the frozen strawberry drinks. Now they check fanny packs so I have to pay $7 for a beer but at least I can drink them in line again.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. That was the Indy 500. We rode that thing I think 30 times one day when I was about 10 years old. They made us go ride something else between rides though. The cars ran on a wooden track like a bowling alley with metal strips inbetween the wooden planks and they were really fast. http://soaphs.com/americana/indy.htm
  11. Where the breaks always this way? Because I rode it once back in 1985 or 86 and on one run that day there were no breaks at all. And I believe this is before they banked some of the turns. It was actually quite scary at first especially going into the helix. However, after surviving we ran around to get on it again and the breaks were fixed. Girls were screaming in front of us and we told them if you think that's scary you should have been on it with us the last time.
  12. Well, the first set of trains was very heavy and 3 rows per car. The second set was lighter to make it smoother (didn't work) and had 3 rows per car. When I rode it last week there were only 2 rows per car. I'm getting old and my memory is fading so I could be wrong about the second set. I only rode it once that season but I think I used the old trick to get a smoother ride by riding in the middle row.
  13. Was Toyota the only company there? I believe that is a "park is closed for private party" day. So, if this is cancelled does that mean they will open the park for the general public?
  14. Well, Daivd Cassidy was jusy in Cincy on Saturday ( http://www.unioncentreblvdbash.com ). They should have have asked the rest of the Patridge Family to come to KI on Sunday after his concert.
  15. I have ridden it now with all 3 different trains and the new ones seem to be the best. I had 2 beers in me and that helped. The worst part of the track is right before you stop. The last dip is where I usually get a monster headache. But, I held on and raised my body up a little going through that spot and it helped. Anyone riding with their hands up the whole way is asking for trouble.
