  1. I like every park I've been to.

My worst park experience was when I went with a friend of mine to KI this summer. We were in line for Delirium and EIGHT PEOPLE line jumped in front of us. One of them kicked me in the back while pretty much pole vaulting over the hand rails, and didn't even bother to apologize. They were being loudmouths about starting a fight with anyone who had a problem with them line jumping. I reported them to the ride op, but she didn't believe me, and they were all allowed on the ride.

On top of that, my friend's husband was calling and calling and calling because he wanted her to come home (some of his relatives were visiting), and because of that, we ended up leaving several hours before we had planned.

  2. Great TR. Glad to see that the rain passed just in time. I can't wait to get back up there. Everyone's stories form the point are killing me. Although I have to say

I love seeing the place through all the great pictures. Keep them coming I still have almost a month before the final trip of the season.

I literally have over a hundred photos that I've taken at CP, and at least 50 from KI. I love photo TRs. I might be going back to the Point or maybe KI August 23, so watch for another photo TR in about a week! ;)

The funny thing is that while I was at CP, I was walking toward Wicked Twister when I saw MaxAir in full swing.. I automatically thought "Delirium!!" and I felt a momentary twinge of homesickness for KI.

  3. Not what I meant! I don't like when people post the links and act ugly about it and make you feel stupid for asking what is, for you, a genuine question. I would not have thought to search for it first.

I just remembered there were some folk who had went to the place and took lots of pictures and had stories and things to share with everyone and I wanted to pass them along. :)

Oh ok.. in that case, thank you! :)

I'm a member of two other coaster forums too and I'm aware of the search rule, but I'm about as absent minded as they get, so my first thought was "I should have searched for that topic first, duh *slaps self on forehead*"

  4. When I was very little, my mom and dad would take me to Americana. I can't recall where it used to be as I know the park is now closed. I would like to hear your stories, see some photos, etc about your time there. It was the first amusement park I ever visited, and sadly the only recollection I have is a vague memory of being on some sort of sky ride with my dad. Several years ago, I saw a frosted shot glass with little carousel horses that they had bought from Americana, and they gave it to me.

That vague memory of a sky ride (or Ferris wheel, I am really not sure) and this nostalgic little shot glass are all I have to remember Americana by.

Also, can anyone tell me why it closed down?

  5. Yes. I'm a KI platinum passholder, and I've used it to get in to CP 4 times this year.

That pass gets you in to CP at 9 am (1 hour before the general public), so take advantage of that. Get to the gate around 8:30 so you can be one of the first in the park. ;) That's what I always do. I did that last time and pretty much walked right on to Millennium Force. :D I got a second ride in on MF, and a ride on Maverick, all before 10 am.

  6. I'm going to wait to renew my platinum pass. I plan on making a few more trips to both CP and KI this year, and I don't want to be limited to one visit. Plus if the benefits are only going to be good at KI, I'm definitely waiting to renew. I want my 9 am early entry for CP. The $10 discount just doesn't seem worth it right now. If I have to end up spending $150, I don't care. It's worth every cent. I've been to CP 4 times this year and KI 10 times, and I'm still not done. ;)

  7. I left my house at 5 am. I live a little over 3 hours away but I like to get a good parking spot, right in front of the entrance.

The weather was nice all the way up there, and about 20 miles outside of Sandusky, I saw this:

    0814080652.jpg

Then I looked at my AccuWeather radar on my phone for the area, and saw a nasty little red and yellow storm.. hovering right over CP. :(

I remembered that the forecast had called for scattered thunderstorms, and I tried my best not to get even more depressed when this happened as soon as I got to Sandusky.

    0814080803.jpg

As I was driving over the causeway, the clouds got dark and I saw some pretty vicious lightning. At this point it was pouring to where I had my wipers on full blast. :(

I got to the parking lot at 8:15 am, and I was one of maybe 5 cars in the parking lot.. I got my spot right in front of the entrance. I wish I could have captured the incredible cloud to ground bolts I saw. I waited out the storm, which only lasted until about 8:30.

    0814080823.jpg

    The storm finally passed over.

    0814080835.jpg

See the blue sky? It cleared up and got BEAUTIFUL outside. I was ecstatic.

    0814080842.jpg

At 9 am I took off running for my number 1 favorite, Millennium Force. I usually don't run, but other people were and I was excited so I said what the heck. When I got to the queue, out of breath, I was thrilled to see that no one was quite there yet. This is the extent of my wait in line for the very second seat.

    0814080906.jpg

Now THAT is what I'm talking about!

I went back for a second ride, and once again I went for the very second seat. I waited all of 10 minutes. There was a guy by himself in line for the very front, and he saw that I was waiting to ride by myself. So he asked if I'd like to ride in the front seat, which of course I happily agreed! What a wonderful way to start the day! :D

After 2 amazing rides on MF, at 9:30 I headed to Maverick. The line was already 45 minutes, but I decided to wait anyway because I knew the lines would be ugly later.

    0814080941.jpg

When we got inside, I wasn't shocked to see that they hadn't opened most of the queue, and the wait wasn't really that bad.

    0814080951.jpg

I took the single rider stairs, where there was no waiting, and pretty much got right on the second train. I waited all of 20 minutes to ride. Here is a photo I took

    0814081009.jpg

After Maverick I was headed to Power Tower, but I decided to ride Iron Dragon on the way because I never had before. It was hilarious to hear people scream their heads off. I am a thrill junkie so I was a little bored, but the pretzel at the end was kind of fun.

I hit PT after that. I wanted to ride the blue side, but the line was hideous and they only had one side going, so I went for the red side instead where there was virtually no wait. I love how PT cools you off on a hot day, especially the red side.

I headed to Dragster after that, but the line was 2 hours! I said heck with that and went for Magnum. The ride shook me around a bit, but not as bad as I remember. It was still very much worth it.

I had never ridden Gemini so I went on it. The ride op said something about how some 12 year old kid tried to give her his phone number. It was a great ride until the end, where I thought my shoulder had become dislocated from the sudden helix. The blue train wasn't running so there was no win to brag about.

I really wanted a ride on TTD, so I grabbed some Dippin Dots and headed over, to see that the line had dropped down to an hour. I was 3 trains away when they called out for a single rider, so I got to jump right on! God how I love TTD. I'm one of those people that put their hands up at the green light and only lower them when the train stops. That launch and the insane speed of the downward twist are just WOW.

I still wanted to ride the blue side of PT, and was happy to see that the line had gone down a little, and both sides were up and running, so I went for it.

Then it was off to Raptor.

    0814081326.jpg

As I was getting in line, one of the guys in front of me said something about how he didn't want his feet cut off. His friend turned around and said "You're an idiot." I tried to stifle my laugh, but I'm pretty sure they heard me.

Then it was off to Wicked Twister.. where the wait was half an hour! I waited anyway. I LOVE WT.

Launch number 2, all the way up the back twist!

    0814081409.jpg

Me waiting in line for the very back seat, best seat in the house.

    0814081419.jpg

Going up! I love shots like this. Watching people go up and backwards on a floorless coaster always gets me pumped.

    0814081420.jpg

At the end of my ride, I heard a girl on the train in front of me say "I think I just pooped my pants."

I had never ridden Blue Streak before, so I went for that one. OUCH was the only word to describe that ride, and I felt like I was going to fall out so I held on for dear life while my back was being brutally thrown against the seat. One more for my coaster count, one less for my back.

After stopping to eat, and tossing my bits of leftover fries at a family of hungry sparrows, I headed back to MF. It was an hour wait, and the people next to me were trying to high five everyone going by. I also saw a guy with his son, the dad points at PT and said "we should ride that white thing." Right as I was about to get on MF, the guy behind me loudly said to his friend that Maverick was better, and his friend agreed. I turned around and said "Well why are you riding this if you don't like it?" just as the gate opened and it was my turn to ride. They had nothing to say. Yeah, that makes sense to wait an hour in line for something you don't like. <_<

MF was an amazing ride as usual, and worth the wait if you ask me.

I headed back toward the red side of PT to cool off, then I went for the blue side.

    0814081654.jpg

Then it was back to WT, where the wait had grown to 45 minutes.

I was pretty pumped by this time, so I decided I wanted another ride on TTD.

I went to get my phone afterwards and saw that my friend that works there had called me to meet up, so I found him and we went to ride the CP/Lake Erie Railroad. I got some pretty tasty pics of MF from the train.

    0814081907a.jpg

    0814081908.jpg

Then it was off to Skyhawk, and his friend wanted to ride Gemini again so I reluctantly agreed. This time I felt like I snapped a vertebra in my neck, it really hurt. Our train won, but I hate that helix. It's brutal.

Back to Magnum we went.. and for some reason it was a slightly smoother ride than last time.

We went on the Super Himalaya.. and wow, you really get the juice squeezed out of you on that one. I felt a little funny after that. Rides that spin that fast tend to make my stomach feel a little yucky.

Then it was off to MaxAir, and one more ride on WT (where there was virtually no wait). The ride op told me I should work at CP, but I declined. I go to school down here and I need more than a seasonal job to pay my bills. I may consider it in the future though.

I always make it a point to make MF my last ride of the night. His friend went with us, but she got mad when we went all the way to the back of the line after the queue closed to wait for the last train. We had told her we were going to earlier, but she shot off something about disrespect and how we should have ridden Maverick like she wanted to, and kept walking with the rest of the line. He and I agreed that she doesn't seem to understand how far I live from CP (they are both Sandusky residents) and that I want to make my day the best possible. I didn't let it bother me, I love CP too much to let something like that get to me, besides, she'd had an attitude from the start.

Night rides on MF on the last train blow away everything I've ever been on, and it was totally worth the hour wait.. who needs ERT anyway?

I didn't leave the park until 10:45 pm. The weather was gorgeous all day, and I got a LOT of rides in.

    Ride count!

Millennium Force - 4 (1 in front seat, and last train of the night!)

Power Tower - 4 (2 on red side, 2 on blue side)

Wicked Twister - 3 (2 in back seat)

    Dragster - 2

    Magnum - 2

    Gemini - 2

    Maverick - 1

    MaxAir - 1

    Raptor - 1

    Skyhawk - 1

    Iron Dragon - 1

    Blue Streak - 1

    Super Himalaya - 1

    CP/LE Railroad - 1

  8. When did you ride?? I saw DT go down at like 6:00 pm last night and was testing empty until past 8:00 pm....did you ride during that time??

It wasn't yesterday, it was last Sunday. It was very hot, and a lot of parents were there with small kids, so most of the crowd was at Boomerang Bay or Nickelodeon Universe. After 5 pm the ride lines shortened even more. It was great. I pretty much walked on to every ride the rest of the night. B)

  9. Depends what you define as stadium seating.

MF is offset vertically or tiered.

Diamondback/Behemoth is offset horizontally (and I guess vertically. It's kind of hard to tell in the animation).

I believe that stadium seats are offset both vertically and horizontally for the most unobstructed view.

    Thanks for the clarification. ;)

  10. Yes gigacoaster Drop Tower is my precious baby. I love her to death!

    NO! DT's MINE!!

    :P

I used to be terrified of DT until I went to Cedar Point and rode Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. I swing my feet all the way up the tower, and take the drop with my hands in the air the whole way down.

I ask my friends all the time if they want to go to KI and have a Drop Tower fun day. Nothing I've ridden at KI or CP compares to the adrenaline surge DT gives me.

Here is an onride vid someone took.. I watch this like 10 times a day :D

  11. Those photos are simply amazing.. but why no tornado pics?? :P

Seriously, nice TR. Glad to see you guys made it through the bad weather without a scratch, it was cool of the gas station attendant to let you hide out there.

I'm not a fan of Pain Streak either. Aside from The Beast, I prefer free fall towers and crazy steel coasters over woodies any day. ;)

  12. Yeah, Sat was bad...you should have gone yesterday instead!! Perfect weather, and the only wait (for me) over an hour was, of course, Firehawk!

Unfortunately I had to work 230-1030 yesterday.

The girl I went with is my assistant manager, so we had a bit of trouble getting the same day off.

Firehawk's line always seems to be long when I go, but IMO it's very much worth the wait. I always seem to completely forget the blistering hot, painfully slow-moving queue when I get in the seat and fasten that silver buckle B)

  13. Correct me if i am wrong but didnt Millenium Force feature stadium seating to.

MF does have stadium seating, but the website refers to it as "tiered seating" .. I guess it's the same difference?

BTW, nice to see someone else is a DT addict too. I rode that thing 5 times in a row for a total of 8 rides that day. It was a Sunday evening so the line was very short. I even got a high five from the ride op

  14. I was 14 when my dad took me to KI for the first time. I was always the one to ride the craziest, fastest things I could find at the county fair, so I had no problem getting on a roller coaster. I was stoked to see that the coasters were much bigger than I imagined them to be, so I went for it and made Vortex my first roller coaster ride.. I LOVED IT!

  15. My very first ride at Kings Island was The Vortex when I was 14 (which was about 12 years ago). I went with my dad and had been on some pretty crazy carnival rides, so being the brave one that I am, I went straight for the big one

The first ride I hit at Kings Island is either Delirium or Invertigo. I love Drop Tower, but if I ride that first, everything else at the park seems to pale in comparison. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush I get from DT.

  16. My friend Tara arrived at my house around 8:45 Saturday morning, and we left for the park. We stopped on the way to get breakfast, and hoped to make it to the park by opening time at 10 am.

    HA.

We didn't arrive at the park until 11 am because the traffic was so congested going to the park. <_<

I let her borrow a pair of my shades.

Thankfully, I got a spot in row 50 of premier parking, which was basically right in front of the entrance. I thought this was a good sign until we saw signs advertising that Jordan Pruitt was to perform at the park at 7 pm. The park was PACKED, even worse than it was on opening day this year.

We rode Delirium (45 min wait), Drop Tower (45 min wait), and Flight Deck (close to an hour wait!), watched the 80's Flashback show at the International Showplace, and then went to the picnic area to get our $12.99 picnic lunch.

After that we headed to BSC and stood through the 2 hour wait to let our food settle in our stomachs.

After that we went to check the line for Invertigo.. 3 HOURS  .. no way. Vortex was 2 hours, so we said forget it and went for the red train on Racer, which was close to half an hour wait.

Then we headed to Flight of Fear, which was also a 2 hour wait. I realized then that I hadn't put our sunglasses in a locker (there is no place to leave them while you ride) so Tara dropped them down her shirt. At the end of the ride, she gave me back the shades I was wearing, went to pull out the pair I let her borrow, and they came out of her shirt in 3 pieces  I had spent about $5 on them so I wasn't worried about it, and I have about 10 more pair.

Then it was off to Firehawk, where the wait was again 2 hours, so we rode it. We were going to try Invertigo but the line was still ridiculous. I wanted to ride DT one more time, so she said go ahead. She wanted to ride Delirium one more time so we split up, she headed for Delirium and I headed for DT. I waited almost 45 minutes to ride, and we left around 10:15.. I got home at 12:20 am because the traffic congestion was just as bad as it was entering the park.

We did have a great time overall, though. Kings Island is a great place, and it was my 10th visit to the park this year. :D

I also took a couple of photos of the construction site while waiting for BSC!

    0809081700.jpg

    0809081700a.jpg

    Ride count:

    Delirium - 2 (Tara 1, me 1)

    Drop Tower - 2 (Tara 1, me 1)

    Flight Deck - 1

    Backlot Stunt Coaster - 1

    Racer - 1

    Flight of Fear - 1

    Firehawk - 1

  17. The Beast is one of my favorite coasters, and that is saying something seeing as how I'm not a big fan of wooden coasters. I love the speed and the tunnels, especially since it really doesn't shake you around that much.

Son of Beast gave me 3 bruises, a headache, and a backache after ONE ride.
