  1. I'm not ruling out an expansion of Coney Mall, in fact-I WELCOME IT! Seems to me that Coney Mall has lost all of it's theming.. time to trim the trees, brush up the landscaping and make it feel like a turn of the century amusement park-the way it was INITIALLY designed to be. Games, arcades are all fine, but make it more lively. It seems like besides Vortex, everyone makes the right at the diner to head toward Rivertown. AFTER ALL... Kings Island is a THEME park... let's get to theming. 1.) Make Coney Mall one of the most beautiful parts of the park.. Landscaping. NEW PAINT... Let's see Racer's original red, white and blue paint job.. it really set off the area. 2.) While the planters' trees provide SOME shade they are also boring and distract guests from seeing the attractions. Does the Action FX theater even operate anymore? lengthen the mall. Perhaps my other thread about a new water ride could be addressed here. Water ride for Coney Mall? Sounds like a winner to me! What do you guys and ladies think?
  2. So... Everyone should be familiar with Kings Island's 3 major water rides: 1.) Wild Thornberry's River Adventure (nee Kings Mills Log Flume) 2.) White Water Canyon 3.) Congo Falls but I beg the question... Does anyone else feel that Kings Island needs a new water ride? let's face it.. the Ohio Valley can get quite toasty and humid in the summer.. how about some more h2O relief? Something unique, thrilling, and wet!! Anyone have any ideas? Please-share them!!
  3. quite frankly the skyride is not that modern a ride. wel there has to be some sort of way to modernize it. Don't get me wrong, I want the skyride back as much as the next die hard Kings Island fan.. but there is no way to really "modernize" a skyride AND keep the natural charm of them. Any ideas though? I'm an open book! would love to hear them!
  4. YES!! I know that the skyride got jammed during a windstorm in '77 and subsequently was removed at the end of the '79 season.. but a skyride is not just an attraction. it is beautiful-seeing brightly colored cars floating above in the sky is absolutely magnificent to see. it also provides a great view of the park to provide another view of the grounds and it also provides transportation. however on the flip-side of the skyride-people will be people they will try to throw things from the skyride, spit on guests below and quite frankly the skyride is not that modern a ride. Thank goodness Cedar Point has decided to keep their's running for it's 48th season.. which proves that the pros MUST outweigh the cons. I'M PRO-SKYRIDE! Since hearing that great america in santa clara may be sold.... SALVAGE THE RIDES!! Re-distribute to other Cedar Fair parks. Great America has great flat rides! anyone have any thoughts?
  5. I will *DEFINITELY* be there August.29th. I will be volunteering with my partner for STOP AIDS of Cincinnati (formerly AVOC) SO Come out, have fun, get tested and realize we are ALL going to be there to be who we are AND BE *PROUD* of it! see all you people there aug.29th~~!!
  6. Very good eye. Another amusing thing is that the opening theme was filmed at (old) Coney Island. anyhow I'll get off the tangent train. The funniest rumor I had heard about Kings Island was back in winter 98'-99' that my older brother's friend said that they were tearing down the Eiffel Tower in order to build Drop Zone. ....yea.. cause they did EXACTLY that.
  7. As I have replied to another member's post- I believe Kings Island and its patrons would benefit greatly from a new water ride. The last one installed (the revamping of kings mills log flume to wild thornberry's river adventure doesn't count..) is Congo (Amazon) Falls in 1988. The one prior to that was 1985-White Water Canyon (which I might add we are fortunate to still have). Before that- 1973s Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal. With this pattern we should have received 2 new water rides. Now with Cedar Fair in control, I believe a new era has occurred. We did not receive any new water rides while under Paramount's reign. Now- in this day in age we are not restricted to a mere log flume nor raging rivers ride. just check out Intamin's site at Intaminworldwide.com THERE ARE SO MANY oppurtunities! Post your comments on what you believe would be a great water ride addition, what type it should be and where in the park it should be installed. Thanks in advance, fellow members!
  8. I completely agree with raptor. If not a skyride-some type of trans-park attraction would definitely suit Kings Island. who 2nds this notion?!
  9. Like a zoo on a cable! Good point. Cedar Point does in fact have AND still operate their (I believe 1964?) Skyride. However the 60s were the time for a park to see one and doubt Cedar Fair would install another one. BUT That would be extremely cool!
  10. HAHA, I suppose skyrides are an acquired taste wish I had the chance to experience it myself.
  11. I agree with you whole heartedly. Let's examine this. Wild Thornberry's River Adventure (aka Kings mills/Kings Mills log flume) was originally constructed in 1968 for Coney Island-then moved overwinter 1971-1972 for Kings Island.. revamped in 2002. essentially the same ride. Next water ride added? Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal in 1973. Arrow Dynamic's hydroflume. Removed in 2001 for TR:TR. NEXT water ride- White Water Canyon. Intamin AG's Raging Rivers ride in 1985.. which if they remove someone will have to pay... and finally THE *LAST* water ride to be added, in it's *21st* operating season Congo Falls (aka Amazon Falls)... IT HAS BEEN 21 years since Kings Island has introduced a new water ride... If you ask me... it is HIGH TIME.
  12. BAH. Just goes to show how some people just have to ruin it for others. Ah well.
  13. haha, yea I've heard that too. Every other source (including the 1979 Kings Island brochure) had a picture of the skyride and even suggested that you ride it. But to the best of my knowledge the only mishap that the Skyride had was the wind jam in 1977 and was removed at the end of the 1979 season. You are right, I haven't had the priveleged access to the ridership logs for the skyride. (do you guys think they even exist anymore?) But ridership of a non-thrill ride its 8th season at the park/15th season of operation (1965-1971 at old coney) probably was very low.
  14. I think you're right. It was already moved from old Coney overwinter 1971-1972. Heard the ride jammed due to high winds in 1977 (typical of Von Roll Type 101 skyrides though-winds over 25mph shut down the ride and the unpredictable weather of Ohio understandable) but surely that wasn't a reason to rid of the ride 2 years later..
  15. no thats a very likely result. Such a shame though. The Skyride was well before my years (first visit to Kings Island was in 1996 when I won a season pass for perfect attendance in the 3rd grade, haha) but it seemed like a great attraction. thanks for your input!
  16. So we all know that Kings Island had a Skyride. That's all very well and good. BUT does ANYONE *KNOW* what exactly happend to the Von Roll Type 101 Skyride after its removal at the end of the 1979 season? Other than the Nickelodeon Store being the former Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera station and the concrete footer in the Oktoberfest Bier Garden Pond (covered up oh-so obviously with a boat) does ANY bit of this Skyride still exist in/around the park or at all? Thanks everyone!
