  1. Indeed there was water running and a pond to boot. I remember the stench as well. Someone brought up something that I find really irritating. And that's the fact that people will trash a park and not think twice about it. I get tired of seeing peoples' initials or names or this person loves this person scratched into wood. Then, you have the gum stuck everywhere as well. And, trash just strewn about. Really p***es me off.
  2. I know this is not PKI related, but the coaster Steel Dragon 2000 in Nagashima Spaland in Japan had a couple of wheels come off of one of the trains, causing it to come to a complete stop and later closing it. Now, there's a news article claiming that some bolts were found to be loose or defective. Only two people were injured. One person on the train claimed to have hurt their back, while another person was injured below the track after a wheel came loose and hit them. It makes me wonder how many parks out there are doing this. Hopefully, this will mean that all parks will step up their inspections. It blows me away that something like this could happen. The funny thing is, I just read an article a couple of days ago at coasterbuzz about the inspection crew for Alpinegeist and they were talking about how thorough their inspections are. And, for the most part, I trust that these parks are maintaining their rides, but, I have to wonder about the ones that don't make as much money as the next. Are they risking leaving worn parts on their rides just to save a few bucks? What do you guys think?
  3. I agree that we all need to be nicer, including me. I guess that the reason I expect more from PKI is because they are my home park. Where as CP is another two hours away, and I have to go all the way there to get what I want out of a park. I realize that PKI is trying to be a family park, but you can't ignore the enthusiasts like myself. I think so especially in a slow economy. What I mean is, it is more likely that when the economy is bad and an entire family can't afford to go, enthusiasts with no family will still be able to go and spend money.
  4. I don't believe that anyone has said that DZ seats were going to be changed or considered for a change. I simply stated that I had heard before the 2003 season began that PKI was going to change the seats to tilted ones. Does anyone read these threads before they post?
  5. Sorry, but I don't believe that Magnum is overrated at all. That's why it held the number one spot for so many years. Just wait until next year when Top Thrill Dragster will be #1. There's no ride experience like it in the world. I have also heard that Busch Gardens is the absolute cleanest in the world. Was glad to see that PKI won best kid's area again. But, maybe they should concentrate on something else in order to claim more Golden Ticket Awards. I think it's really hard to pick the best park because it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for thrills, then CP. But, if you're looking for the best place to take the young ones, then PKI.
  6. I had thought that maybe that was what they were doing to DZ this year. I like the idea of a tilted seat. Not that I'm not scared enough already as it stands.
  7. If they would add tunnels to SOB on the Helix, wouldn't that kind of take away from the originality of The Beast? It would just be larger, correct?
  8. I remember the long lines as well when I was a kid. I also remember The Beast footprints that would tell you where to line up. So, why is TR:TR a slow loader. I have not been on that one yet, so I haven't seen it. That is another thing that burns me about PKI. Cp consitently wins the award for putting the most people through their lines every year. Does PKI really consider this when purchasing a new ride? How about Delirium or Scooby Doo? What are those like in terms of moving people?
  9. Good points, Chef. I saw the Dollywood episode and was bored to tears. It is nowhere near as interesting as PKI. They could really get into some history as well. I would definitely watch that episode, Chef.
  10. What I would like to see is a good hour feature on PKI on the Travel Channel. Seriously, I think they get dissed when it comes to these shows. They could show some behind the scenes work. Seems they will never get their props from those channels. I wonder why. Any thoughts?
  11. I think PKI owns them in the wood category while CP is tops in steel. CP has the better staff. PKI has better food. PKI has the better kids area and water park. CP has great resorts. I wish PKI had a hotel on premises like CP. It was very convenient to be able to walk back to my hotel room at the back of the park.
  12. Oops, forgot one more. The Screamin' Demon because it was the first coaster I ever rode that went upside down and then did it in reverse. There used to be an insanely long line to that one.
  13. I miss der spinnin keggers. My uncle used to go with my family to King's Island and he would get it spinning before it started and we were always the last off because we were still spinning. I can't really say that I miss The Bat because I don't really remember too much what it was like. I just remember it swinging wildly back and forth. I miss the Bayern Curve as well, it was cool cause when you got up to top speed, they would soung a loud horn. I kinda miss the Tumblebug, although now it would probably seem lame. I also miss the Zodiac even though it used to scare the hell out of me. I just don't like that hanging feeling. Never really liked Phantom Theater other than the air conditioning. I used to like the Enchanted Voyage before and after the smurfs. I liked it b4 smurfs cause it had this one part that if you looked in this mirror, it looked like a ghost was sitting next to you. Then after it became Smurfs Enchanted Voyage, because I loved the smurfs.
  14. Kinos, maybe you misunserstood me. I was not stating anything as factual, just what I heard. I thought maybe that was also a contributing factor in the problems with SOB. You doubt someone else took over, yet have no proof that no one did. sobrider, why did the designer not want to have his name anywhere near the ride? Was it due to all the cost cutting?
  15. I had heard somewhere that there was another company that was originally supposed to build SOB. That's when PKI took over. Isn't it possible that they (PKI) were really not prepared or skilled enough to build this one? Maybe the other company could have done a better job. I've also heard rumors that they had to replace quite a bit of the wood initially because it was inferior. Anyone know? All I know is that if you use inferior materials, you will have an inferior ride with many problems. Just my .02.
