  1. I’ve not been on here in several years and wasn’t sure if this was mentioned anywhere on here.  Got news that Karen passed away recently.  I have not spoken to her in years, but just wanted a moment of silence to remember her.

    carry on

  2. I wasn't sure if my last post made up, my phone fouled up.  Personally, I'm sick of the whole darn thing.  The masks are getting too hard to deal with for me.  I'm a copd'er now and have to wear it at work, and I just can't do it much longer.  Currently trying to decide what I'm going to do.  I resent people shaming me for not wanting to wear it.  Have an elephant sit on your chest while laying on your back, put a rope around your neck and tighten it, then put two masks over your mouth and cover your nostrils.  That;s how it feels to breathe with this some days.  Add a mask and its impossible.  3 months into my new job, and I have called off 3 times.  You can see what's probably gonna happen with me.  Yet I'm the selfish one for not wanting to wear it.  I'm pretty done with the whole thing.  See, I'm more worried about cancer.  In my family, its 100% fatal; with covid at least you have a chance.  I've lost my father, an uncle, an aunt and 2 cousins in the last 4 years from cancer.  4 people I know have passed due to covid, the most recent was a coworker.  In a few hours, my sister is having a double mastectomy.  I dont give a darn about covid right now.  If anyone is wondering, yes I'm vaccinated-but not by choice.  Since I took Moderna, I have no recourse if something happens later on

So I've been pretty silent on the subject but I decided after seeing what KI has posted it's time to unload some thoughts.

The whole country is hurting for people to work. Kings Island, and Cedar Fair mind you, has implemented a lot  of policies and plans to accommodate their staffing issues and they are still hurting.

Just based on the video, the subsequent day, and just the environment in general, I believe in the "punish the criminal, not the good intentioned populous". I myself have been to the park solo when I was a minor for years and never did I get in trouble with the park. I always followed the rules, made sure to be polite, and generally be a good patron to the park. I never thought of being a "gang" and picking a fight with another group, and never will. The individuals who acted, started, and harassed other patrons should be barred for an extremely long time and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Make the policies clear, make them open, make them available, make an example of whoever causes a brawl like this. I do not believe we should punish good minded youths due to the acts of a group of individuals who probably need some help. I have seen people get escorted out of the park, it does happen and should happen.

I have nothing but extreme respect for security, and to a grander degree our first responders like Lifeguards and EMTS. They put up with some of the worst from people, and I can speak from first hand experience. They care about safety, they work late shifts even to ensure guest safety. I believe that KI should try to employ more security, enforce their policies, and really make statements that even if you are a minor, there are extreme consequences for unruly behavior.

That's what's lacking today-accountability.  I dunno.  Limit the amount of people in the park?

Faulting the park for people not being able to control themselves is incredibly unfair.

There was a garage sale in my neighborhood this past Saturday.  It's a nice subdivision with home values $200,000 to $350,000  Cars lined on both sides of the street.  Moving cars could not pass by. Garage sale cars illegally parked in many driveways.    Police had to block off both entrances to my subdivision from letting more cars enter.  Then the fights started.  And a stabbing....no joke.

PGA Championship took place in South Carolina this past weekend.  Crowd rushed Brooks Koepka and knocked him around causing more pain & injury to an already injured knee.  Crowd was way out of control.

We have all seen fights over stupid crap like facemasks, or those butthurt because their entitlement is not acknowledged by someone else.

    Road rage videos everywhere.

There is one similarity of the above examples- no teenagers were involved.  They are all adults committing these horrific acts.

Covid has mentally affected many people negatively where social interaction was lost.  Combine that with everyone's head in their phone for the past decade plus and it's not a massive surprise people have zero clue how to act socially.

We all need to just be nice to each other.  Not everything is meant or intended to be malicious.  Agreeing to disagree and move on is SO MUCH easier than fighting like wild animals.

There is no magic wand to solve all these issues and more rules and restrictions will only create more animosity.  We all need to take a step back, breathe, and really ask ourselves- is getting mad over the little things really worth it and what is the endgame you are looking for by getting so uncontrollably mad?

The whole world has lost their ever loving minds.....

I agree.  Honestly, who would want to be a security guard or even a police officer in today's political environment.  I also agree with other posters that if the park is understaffed then they probably should limit how many patrons can enter the park.

    Truth!

with the gate been giving away it will turn into a place to drop off kids.  Be like SFWoA was.

KI has always been the area's biggest babysitter.  I can't tell you how many times parents dropped their kids off at the gate and turned around and left.  I think the time has come to require chaperones.  To be truthful, what I saw from this incident made me sick to my stomach.  Not just here, but everywhere.  Times are different now, unfortunately

  7. My fear is these restrictions will be permanent.  I went to Tennessee 3 weeks ago.  They have no mandate, no one was wearing them, their governor did not have a daily talk show spreading fear.  I felt free.  That being said, I am not dismissing the severity of this.  I have been in deep thought for the last few years, especially this past year.  I had a family member in my car January 2020 who I thought was going to die in my back seat before we got to the hospital.  Since he didn't have insurance, he was sent home, and it was labeled a "virus".  I did not wear a mask that day and had no problems.  I know 3 people personally who have died from it.  As long as masks are required, I dont plan to go anywhere.  I can't tolerate them due to breathing issues, and I'm personally tired of being chastised.  I'm really glad I got to experience the world before all this.  Being on house arrest is it's own special hell.  And that is all I will say about this....

I will politely disagree.  $15 minimum wage will kill small business, and the cost of everything will quadruple.  Higher wages, means higher prices.  Something needs to change, but doubling the minimum wage is not the answer, IMO.  If you think it is hard to live on $7.25, $10, or maybe even $12 an hour now, that will be multiplied to the struggle when workforces are forced to pay $15 an hour.  Many that are making less, will not get much a=of a raise, and those at $15 will probably stay there.  So when cost of living skyrockets, the ones making minimum wage will be the ones who suffer.  If you think it is bad now, it will only be worse.  I would suggest, let it be known that I am not an expert by any means, finding a way to utilize a percentage for every business to be regulated by a percentage.  If the top dog (CEO) makes so much, then the lowest man on the wages should be within maybe 60% of that?  Spread the money back through each business so it can be spent elsewhere.  And just so you know, the percentage was a guess, I have no idea what that number should be.  My 2 cents.

Oldschool75, I agree there needs a change, but I don't think it is in minimum wage, with all due respect.

Our whole system is unsustainable.  They might raise the wage, but I guarantee hours will be cut and it will not benefit anyone.  Greed is the reason the lower tier has no money.  Honestly, how much money does one at the top really need?

  9. Security 2007-2011.  My best memory is the Knievel jump.   I was at the main entrance, and as soon as Knievel hit the ground most of the 70,000 folks rushed the gates.  After strongly encouraging the sup to let the folks in without worrying about the detectors, things went smooth.  Out of all the times I worked that was the best 14 hour shift I've ever had.  Physically, I can no longer stand for hours on end, but if I was able I would apply again in a heartbeat.  I miss the folks I worked with, especially Ed Frey.  Best sup and friend I've had in my years of working.

  10. You call it short sighted when it actually covers the potential height issue long term and will not hurt the park long term. The only ones hurt are those who refuse to read the details.

Those details to any park are as important as letting members know why it is important to capitalize something because it is trademarked. ;)

My daughter has grown 3.5" since April. Should we bring all her Justice clothes & Nike sneakers/ soccer shoes back because she no longer fits into them? Yeah, we would get laughed at. Ironically we purchased her clothes a .5 size big in anticipation for growth.

The park has different pricing to make things easier for those with younger families. Take advantage of the pricing while you can. When a certain level is achieved, take advantage of the bigger rides.

Well, there are these awesome stores that you can get cash for your clothes. The example doesn't really hold water though. Many dresses are returned after dances. Many televisions are returned after the Super Bowl, etc. You can even return a pizza to Marion's if you are not satisfied with a pizza, as long as a certain percentage of the pizza is not eaten.

    I can't imagine returning a Marion's pizza, its the best :))
