  1. When is everyone showing up on Friday morning? Is there a special place to go for the 30 minutes ERT (When we visit KI we don't normally get there first thing in the day)? Thanks!
  2. Wasn't that website created by someone on here? Not an official website for WindSeeker or of Cedar Fair. I know, but he apparently got that info from somewhere. Anything is possible but I seriously doubt it, why would they design a ride that way? What would the person in the tower actually do? With that logic DropZone should have someone in the tower also?
  3. I'm hoping to go for the first time, and bring the kids along. Any advise for first timers? We are Platinum Pass holders. -John
  4. I just wish they could remove the 'give' I feel in the floor when I step out of the elevator.
  5. There are some rules you can generally follow for a big park like KI, Saturdays in the Summer will be crowded. Rainy mornings will lead to smaller crowds, etc. However, there are other things you'll never know unless you are there, we went to KI on August 8 in the morning (Sunday), I didn't expect it to be too busy, it was crowded with tons of people wearing union T-Shirts. This wasn't an "event" on the calendar, but it sure brought out lots of people - many more than I'd expect on a Sunday.
  6. Thanks, just verifying if it was better to get there at 11am or Noonish.
  7. Hello all, I'm hoping to go to Coney Island in the near future and ride Python, I see the park opens at 11am on Sundays, do the rides, specifically Python, start at 11 or do they start later?? Thanks!
  8. In the big picture, has Cedar Fair positioned itself to be more profitable? The final solution to many problems is better earnings (I won't pretend to know how much is the right amount), but look at the road map. Carowinds has gotten two new coasters in the last two seasons, one looking to draw more crowds in with the Nascar theming. Kings Dominion has gotten a decent coaster from Geauga, a kick butt coaster with I305, and some other rides from Geauga. Kings Island got DBack last year, World's of Fun got Prowler, Canada's Wonderland got Behemoth the year before. I'm sure I'm missing things, and they've also gone to more family friendly things with the light displays at CPoint last year, and other parks getting them this year. If the economy is really improving (and/or people's perception is it's improving) will higher attendance help Cedar Fair with it's debt issues? Towards the bottom line, the dividend is currently gone, I'm a stock holder so while I do miss that, I think it should've been done sooner. I gotta think not licensing with Nickleodeon will save some big dollars (might take a year or two to realize) Might a park or two be sold off? Possibly. Look up in the Mercury news for a recent article on CGA and the 49ers stadium. I'm rambling but I'd like to think things aren't necessarily bleak.
  9. Terpy, That's terrible what happened to you. I have had the good fortune to be able to visit most of the Cedar Fair parks, I've had a couple cases of having to wait for a ticket to be printed up so I could get in (MA and CGA), and at Knott's I was actually just waived in by an older gentleman who saw my pass (he didn't scan it). I'm always a little nervous at a new park, and in the end, if they tell you 'No' what can you really do? 20 minutes seems a fair amount of time to wait - I prolly would've stayed all day just to make my point and I've been known to be a little stubborn. I hope you do contact Carowinds and explain the situation, how you were treated, and that you'd like an apology. Assuming you have a KI pass I'd make sure they know how their customers are treated at a different park and find out who to share that information with at Cedar Fair proper. Hopefully they will do the right thing and make it up to you somehow. -John
  10. I assumed the CP one is an April Fool's joke - if you were really going to do that it seems you'd make a bigger announcement and NOT do it April 1st.
  11. I would assume all Cedar Fair parks work the same (not always a safe assumption) but at Cedar Point you can upgrade your normal season pass at any time to Platinum pass paying the difference. As far as ERT - on a daily basis Cedar Point opens an hour early for Platinum Passholders and resort guests, 4 rides and Planet Snoopy open early (Raptor, Iron Dragon, Millennium Force, and Maverick). There are only 4(?) later ERTs for Platinum Passholders. Go to the CP website, Season Pass Central and look at the Point Perks link for a schedule. I think they are mainly on Thursdays. Definitely take advantage of the early ERT, be there early, and make a rush for the ride you want. If you want to go to Maverick go to the Soak City Parking lot.
  12. Waiting for Coaster Season!

  13. What makes some thing coasters and other things not? I was in San Antonio in the Fall and rode Journey to Atlants, which is credited as a "Water Coaster" - though Sea World's website points out it has elements of both. Shoot the Rapids has two chain powered lift hills, watching the POV it feels coasterish. Will CP reclaim sole ownership of the title by proclaiming STR as a waster coaster? Will sites like RCDB claim it for them? just thinking out loud........
  14. I went to the Visitkingsisland website to show a co-worker the Sling Shot ride. I assumed it would be under Thrill rides but it's not there (and I looked around a bit in other areas). Xtreme Skyflyer is listed under thrill rides and I would expect those two to be listed together. I'm assuming this is an oversight from the website (I've never looked for it before) but are the two towers still standing?
  15. It was mentioned upstream to use your car. Take the camera in for a few hours, then back to your car for the rest of the day.
  16. I've been considering switching health clubs in the Toledo Area, glad I'm reading about Urban Active here, they have two locations in great TTown and have huge crowds, both times I went to check them out I couldn't find a parking spot. Check out sparkpeople.com, it's a free online tool to help in healthy living / weight loss.
  17. From what I've seen for amusement park slogans it's not that bad, it's just new and will take awhile for everyone to get used to. It's a lot better than "More Flags More Fun".
  18. The Nick characters are becoming more and more common - there has been some thought that Nick may not have wanted to renew with the Cedar Fair properties - look at Mall of America, and the redone park in New Orleans - Sponge Bob everywhere. My kids love Spongebob, but they also like Snoopy. He may not be barging into their living room every day like Bob and Patrick, but they do watch the Holiday specials. So to answer the initial question - will this have anything to do with us coming or not coming, nada! If my 8 year old makes it to 54" - that will have more to do with us coming, he wants the coaster credits!!
  19. I am glad that I got to ride SoB this past April, like many I found the ride very rough, though I would like to try and ride it again. I have found Mean Streak to be better if I don't put my hands up, hold on, and lean way forward so my back doesn't touch the seat - though it still seems like I'm surviving the ride opposed to enjoying it. Cedar Fair is a business, in the end they have to (or should) make business decisions for the whole good of the company. There are probably other things/issues which have not hit the light of day (pure speculation) that could be having an affect. From what has happened and been announced, it seems apparent they will not re-open it as is, if they were going to they could have done that for this season. Beyond that who knows - well people on the inside probably do - anyone want to spill the beans? The selling of memorabilia seems pretty suspicious/confirming to me, but perhaps a somewhat redesigned coaster gets a new name? The could lower the height a little bit and call it "Fairly Large Coaster". I've been hoping that CP will do a major redesign to Mean Streak, I'm still foolishly optimistic that it could happen for 2010 (I'm also optimistic they will paint Millennium Force for next year). Last year GCI people were spotted around Mean Streak. Many will say a coaster like Mean Streak or SoB can't be turned into a different coaster. Why not? You tear down some parts, you build up others, have someone like GCI or GG design a new coaster that will be popular (SoB seemed popular - MS never is), you can use parts of the existing structure that make sense. Sure, I'm wishing/speculating, but for SoB, something has to be different for them to re-open it, or it would be open right now. --J
  20. That is an interesting circumstance you are in. I renewed by CP Platinum pass Friday night - Myself and my two kids, both with adult passes as they are over 48". We renewed at CP and didn't have to jump through any hoops, my PPass is now good through the end of 2010. Could you just renew them now and be good? I believe CPs policy on new passes was they'll measure Jr. at time of getting the pass and determine if you need to pay the difference. I'm assuming the same policy for both locations. I would follow the above advise and ask - though I'd bring my son in the shoes that have the thinnest sole I can find.
  21. Last Friday while waiting for(ever) Firehawk, the family in front of me did something I thought was very wrong, Mother Dad and older Sis were in line with a younger boy and girl, I'm thinking preschool - one may have been younger than that, maybe kindergarten age for the older. When they got to the front the 3 big people rode and they sent the little kids to the exit and said wait down there or out there for us. Okay, soap box time, that is terrible, these people acted and sounded like they were well educated, yet you can't teach common sense? These kids were young enough, what if one decided they wanted mommy and ran back with all the moving equipment, very unsafe, the rideops should not have to worry about things like that. Then, kids get snatched in this country all the time, the parents were more concerned about riding together than keeping their youngest kids safe, geez. I gotta think any amusement park / fair / etc. are prime locations for bad guys who'd do stuff like that. Heck, I don't even like going in the bathroom at the same time as my 10 year old daughter in public places, it gives bad people a chance to be bad. I use what I call the evening news test, imagine what might happen and what it sounds like on the evening news and if you'd think that parent was an idiot or if it was just one of those things. In my Firehawk example, "Young Boy and Girl abducted as parents ride roller coaster" doesn't sound too good. Allright, (steps off soap box), KI does give you a great option, as does Cedar Point, a Parent Swap pass. Go to guest relations after you get in the park, it's immediately to the right. Then you and your daughter can take turns riding it, one of you staying with your son, when one rider is done the other can walk up the exit and get in line right away. This way the person waiting with your son can take him on other rides so he isn't bored either. Hope that helps. --J
  22. I just went through this last year - after a quick trip to CP which got only as tall as Iron Dragon we went to KI, he went from nervous about Adventure Express, down right afraid of Racer to front seat only on Racer, Beast being his favorite Woodie and loving Vortex. Back to CP he went up to Gemini, Mean Streak (His least favorite Woodie), Magnum and by the end of the year Millennium Force is his favorite coaster. KI has a lot of height restrictions for 48", they won't be able to ride DBack, FoF, Invertigo or Firehawk. Now if I'm lame and want to ride the Giggle Coaster to be able to check it off my list - it says you need to ride with children, what comprises a child, will my now 7 year old pushing 52" be adequate? If we don't want to get in the way of the little kids who the ride is meant for when is the best time to go? A Friday night?
  23. Angie, A couple things - Keep in mind all the CPers will probably need to spend some time getting their pass vouchers accepted to get in the park (I'm assuming here) - and it will probably be busy that day so it may take some time. I'd definitely encourage everyone to show up at 8:30 if not earlier. Thing 2 - Most of the gang are enthusiasts enthusiasts, they will understand waiting, especially for a new ride. I hope your bid makes it!!! Now make sure not to wear out all the 'new coaster smell' on Saturday, I will be there on Friday the 24th adding a few coasters to my list and seeing how close DB is to Behemoth.
  24. It's a very fun park - someone mentoned the water park - that often seems overlooked, it is a top notch waterpark!
  25. Where would we get these cards at?
