  1. One guess I had was that the existing foundation, at the Flight Commander pad, was insufficient for WindSeeker and it's removal was either more difficult and/or more costly than just moving it farther down the mall. This is just a guess though.
  2. WLW tower in Mason is currently 736 feet and its just as close to the nearest airport as Kings Island. (For whatever that is worth) I happen to be a student pilot right now and I can tell you that there is no problem with Kings Island being too close to an airport. The closest airport to KI is Lebanon-Warren County Airport and that's about 8 nautical miles away, more than enough clearance for even a 1000 foot structure. I'll end by saying that I have no idea who would even regulate such a rule, if it were to exist.
  3. Too bad we can't buy an old paver for charity. I'd pay $100 for one.
  4. The email said that 5 pieces had arrived thus far, and that the final 3 pieces would be arriving later in the week.
  5. I just got an email from KI saying that the last 3 pieces are en route and will be delivered this week.
  6. I'd bet that they are for Kings Island. If you look up directions (on google maps) from Norfolk to Kings Island one of the routes goes through Pataskala via I-70 West. None of the prospective routes to Cedar Point go through that area. Just my two cents. If those trucks are headed to KI, they should be pulling in shortly.
  7. I think the park likes having Timberwolf. Although it doesn't host major concerts anymore, it gives them the flexibility (and venue) to have events that boost attendance (and revenue) at the park. (Cheerleading Weekend, SpiritSong, ETC)
  8. The path that they are drawing comes out under The Racer just left of the restrooms next to WindSeeker. If you look a the picture closely you can see racer and WindSeeker on the plans.
  9. They redo all of Coney Mall with pavers and then use concrete in front of the new attraction? Although, maybe this is the pad for the queue line.
  10. Terp, I've read many of your posts that highlight poor management practices in place at Cedar Fair. Do you think that another company (Six Flags, etc) would have managed the problems with SOB in a different manner?
  11. I'd bet my right arm that it WILL NOT operate in 2011. Nothing (visible) is being done to change the ride. And given the comments from park management about their unhappiness with the ride experience, I think its going to take alot more than new trains (or some other out of view upgrade) to improve that experience.
  12. I've gotta give kudos to Holiday World with respect to their parking equation... Free Parking + Tram Service = Happy Customer
  13. Thanks for the update Ryan! Those new pavers make a huge difference! Any further indication as to when WindSeeker is going vertical?
  14. Thanks Terp for answering my question. You have a wealth of knowledge and each day I log-in to read your comments on these forums.
  15. Does anyone know at what point SOB will need a new paint/stain job? It seems to me that it hasnt been refinished since it was built in 2000. I guess the question really is... How long can it sit there SBNO until they have to put some serious money into maintenance like painting?
  16. Perhaps that's why Flight Commander's pad has never been removed. I would think it would have to be similar in strength.
  17. Attraction? Those stupid hamster balls? If the park wanted the new ride there and the geology allowed, the hamster balls would be shuffled out. I find it hard to believe that the revenue generated from that "attraction" could in any way give it squatters rights that would not allow for it to be moved. The old Flight Commander pad seems like a perfect fit for the flow of the park. Just my opinion though.
  18. I cant wait to ask why WindSeeker was not put in Flight Commander's old spot.
  19. It really depends on what you want to do. There are people in many departments that work 12 months a year. These people perform many duties. Plumbers, carpenters, painters, electricians, etc. There are also a handful of people in every other department (food, rides, security etc) that work all year long, although most of these department heads take there vacation in the month of December. In the resale department there were 6-7 full time food managers, 3 or 4 merchandise managers and 2 or 3 games managers full time. But that was in the late 90's, although I cant image its much different now. Also, don't forget about all the seasonal people who work when the park is closed. I believe I was able to work 1850 hours in a year and still remain seasonal. I would start in HR in January doing recruiting trips to local high schools (that was in the days when getting employees was hard work!) and end my season in November closing down stands and carrying food carts back to the warehouse with a forklift. I guess I'm saying that I felt like a full time employee without the benefits (although I can't image they are that good anyway). Best advice. Get a job there and work your way up. Stay in school and follow your passion.
  20. Sounds like a great advertisement for Holiday World.
  21. CoasterRZ you are correct about the tax implications being the driving factor. Since each unit holder's tax liability is going to be different, there is a range of what each unit holder will be responsible for his or her shares. I recall hearing (during the conference call) that they came up with the 25 cent dividend because it was on the high end of the range of what unit holders would expect to owe in taxes per share. So, in theory, some of those unit holders are probably making a few cents per share, depending on their tax liability, since distributions to unit holders must be equal.
  22. I seriously doubt that we will ever see german cuisine in the Festhaus ever again. Im actually quite surprised that shows have resumed in the Festhaus in recent years. During the Paramount years it was thought (by those who ran the food department at the time) that shows in the building negatively impacted the food sales. I havent worked there in years, so I cannot speak to how the sales changed with the addition of the shows. But I can say that in terms of sales, Festhaus does light years beyond any other food stand. From a business point of view, messing with that revenue stream would seem very risky to me. I see it more likely that building is re-themed, but given the new flags out front it seems that the confusing themeing will continue.
  23. I couldn't agree more with you Snowman! I'm so sick of the midgets already and they haven't even started bleeding. I realize that we are currently into Haunt mode and that's the talk of the town for the next month or so. I'm not sure how much more midget talk I can take though. I think Boddah's intentions are in the right place, promoting the park and letting us all know where to hear talk of Kings Island. I still have family members that bring me newspaper articles about Kings Island or email me links to stories about the park. I am, however, slightly amused that this midget wrestling thing hasn't gotten the controversial press that I'm sure the park had planned/hoped for. Maybe for once the press didn't bite. Or maybe their audience just doesn't care.
  24. I seem to remember reading a post from Boddah on a similar topic awhile back saying that he (and other mods) didn't have the time for those sorts of updates. Totally understandable. I wonder if they consider adding moderators that could find the time. I'm sure there are plenty of members that would step up and volunteer their time for this cause. I know I would. Much of this work can be done independent of the site and then uploaded by a moderator in the correct format.
