  1. California's Great America... http://youtu.be/ErtEzkS1haU
  2. You know the Kinzel days are over when park management is talking about new dark rides.
  3. I'm just trying to comprehend how much that chain weights...
  4. I just had to give the ol' facepalm. For the longest time, thunder alley had "King's Island Thunder Alley" right on the sign, out in the open, in Action Zone...
  5. I totally agree. With it's current rank (and location for that matter) Kings Island or any of the other Cedar Fair parks will NEVER reach the level of intricacy and massive capital expenditures of Disney Parks. However, many parks in the Cedar Fair chain are capable of being great regional theme parks. Sure, they will never be on the level of immersion as Disney, but a shift in focus could do wonders, which is what I hope the new CEO will be able to pull off. In fact it appears as though he has already begun to done so. After all, I do recall that during an interview with Kinzel after the aquisition of Paramount Parks, when the question of theme came into the conversation, Kinzel thought of it as simply "uneeded lipstick on a carnival", when in reality, it can achieve much, much more. I've often wondered if the disaster that was Dispatch Master Transport was one of the factors that influenced the former CEO's views.
  6. Not to mention that without all the micro-managing, many in the company may feel a bit more comfortable in their day to day jobs and decision making. I think it's safe to say that we can already see this in the PR departments.
  7. It looks as though the partnership between Kings Island and Great Wolf Lodge has been restored.... http://www.visitkingsisland.com/featured-hotels/great-wolf-lodge
  8. I highly doubt that. Although King Cobra had been painted before it was dismantled, it had its own reasoning behind it in the form of inferior steel (plus, maybe a few possible other reasons). Just because a coaster has recieved a fresh coat of paint doesn't mean anything spectacular is going to happen to said coaster. Like many have said, good paint is important in the same sense as someone with very sensitive skin wearing new layers of sunscreen at the beach. Anything is possible though. I'm just waiting on the inevitable rumors spread by guests that Invertigo had been removed and replaced by an updated model, despite all the information and pictures posted by Don on Facebook.......
  9. Yet it is kind of ironic that although the ride was not designed to stand against the elements, the ride was at some point or another outdoors, with internal components exposed for that matter. I could be wrong, but I'm sure that this is our Crypt. I really don't think that this is a picture of a prototype.
  10. Yet another possible poke at Viacom. It will be interesting to see how the new/former GM Fairs in the new company. Ouimet seems to be on a continuous streak of bringing fresh people with experience into the company; can't wait to see how this plays out.
  11. A tribute to the ride's heyday....
  12. Good point, I completely forgot about DT, I just had that large target in the plaze in my head. I didn't mean that it would not fit in with AZ, I just meant that it will be different. The ride already looks much better with only the cobra roll covered.
  13. ^Which may explain why Kinzel seemed to "hate" theming....
  14. Personally, I like the new color scheme. It not only gives the ride a new look, but will probably tie better into the colors and setting of the entrance plaza. Sure, it may be a little different for Action Zone, but at least it is no longer a light pink and beige color, with bird dropping and mouth fluid stains a la mode.
  15. If The Crypt were to be removed, I wonder if portions of DB's final helix/supports would need to be replaced. It does look as though the design of Diamondback was made so that it would integrate well with The Crypt's plot. It would be awkward for the park to need to leave some of those big mounds and concrete walls there to keep Diamondback's structure secure. Then again, you never know.
  16. Since I do admit that I do not know full details (as if anyone else really knows the true height of each tower's elements), and what I said was merely what I THOUGHT based on the information that has been given by the park, I'd like to say that I was not trying to steer anyone in the wrong direction. I will say this however, if you dig up the information listed for both rides, Drop Tower's RIDE height is listed at 26 stories, whereas WindSeeker's is listed at 30. All in all, each of the three towers in the park are in the same general height range, and as goodyellowkorn pointed out, it's really not that big of a comparison.
  17. I remember seeing somewhere that Drop Tower actually lifts the gondola to a full height of around 280..something feet. I believe that the 315' figure is the height of the entire tower itself (including the big box on top, plus or minus the antenna). In fact, from what I understand, when Drop Tower/Zone was constructed, another certain tower in the park lost a segment of its antenna mast in order for the (then) new ride's height to have more bragging rights. WindSeeker is indeed the highest ride in the park in that it takes the actuall gondola up to a height of 301'. I'm not sure how tall the tower itself is, or if that has ever been released. It may even be nearly the same height as Drop Tower; the UFO on top looks much less space consuming than the topper of DT.
  18. Those trains have been in the exact same spot for two seasons now. Whether or not they have been moved, or even taken to the shop is anybody's guess. I had participated in the JDRF walk at Kings Island for the past few years now, which takes place in the spring. The walk involves using the service road that leads under SoB's lift, and yes, those trains have been in the same exact spot for the past two years.
  19. After seeing all the SoB shots crammed into the episode, I just knew that once I opened the forums, they would be blowing up with thoughts. On a side note I don't recall seeing any shots of DB's lift or even a close shot of WindSeeker, which in my opinion, adds a second sense of suprise.
  20. I find it interesting how clean the landscaping was. There doesn't seem to be a large array of gardening going on in that area. Were most parks of the time like that? (big on the well manicured bushes/trees, and not so much into the floral aspects) Wish that I could've seen the park during it's glory days.
  21. A. It is less than 100 miles to Dorney Park. Why do so many forget Dorney? B. Investors and other businesses want easy access to the corporate headquarters, and are not amused when it is in a remote, expensive to access location. They couldn't care less where a single park is as far as its location relative to corporate headquarters. C. Remote, relatively rural corporate headquarters both cause a sense that the company is laid back and not truly engaged in business and/or feels so superior that those who wish to do business/invest in the company must inconvenience themselves and go to an unusual location. See also Ashland Oil (which later moved to Covington), NCR (Dayton, anyone?), and Adelphia. Yes, Six Flags moved out of New York City, but Dallas/Fort Worth (Grand Prairie) is a major business center. Sandusky, Ohio is not. And it has terrible access. Fine for a resort park. Not for a corporate headquarters. Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I feel embarrassed that I forgot Dorney, however it seems to be seldomly mentioned amid all the talk of the company's larger parks, making it quite easy to forget. I just always had the notion that entertainment based companies had a tendancy to stay close to one of their prime pieces of property. Things like this are why I'm most certainly NOT a business major. Also, if the company does indeed move, it may further seperate the new era from that of Kinzel; an era where Cedar Point and Cedar Fair are not two interchangeable words, and where John Hildebrand may "actually have a job position".
  22. I personally can't see why Cedar Fair would want to switch headquarters to NYC. Sure, there would be greater access to investors and resources, but it would be kind of weird considering that the closest CF park to headquarters would be CW, nearly 500 miles away..
  23. I have seen that video previously. In my opinion, Ouimet's expression throughout most of the video was that of "Is this what you really consider quality?", especially after passing that food stand. I can't wait to see the qualitative changes made by Ouimet. Yes, Cedar Fair is definently not Disney, but the new CEO's vision and priorities are much different from that of Kinzel. Perhaps he will finally be the one to see the potential and quality that once adorned parks such as Kings Island, and that a quality park does not mean creating a concrete parking lot with lots of steel rails.
  24. Well, Kings Island is not Coney Island, so it is suprising to know that Delerium can swim that quickly. All joking aside, this is great news indeed!
  25. As ironic as it may sound, WindSeeker is in fact shut down once wind speeds reach a certain threshold. It has been significantly windy the past few days, so I wouldn't put it past KI to temporarilly close both of those rides.
