"Never eat raspberries...."
-
I have thought about this myself.... Just how long does it take to finalize the purchasing, design, and construction of a new roller coaster? I think that one of the biggest mysteries is whether or not some of the rides/coasters installed in the former Paramount Parks were planned by Paramount Parks, or Cedar Fair. Behemoth comes to mind....

I'll let everyone know if I see that giant piece of machinery plowing down I-71..
-
And with that, another piece of the park will officially be de-paramountized..... With all honesty, I think that this is a great addition. Not only will it make the waterpark larger, but it will also breath new air into the area, and allow for more attractions in the future. You have to admit, Boomerang Bay as it stands presently is not all that attractive. EVERYTHING is fading (slides, buildings, and even the fiberglass animals) and has just become a same-old-same-old sort of deal. The only thing that I am hesitant about is if this change means that the waterpark will have a generic public-pool feel to it. After all, Boomerang Bay was Australian themed (far from excellent theming, but theming none the less). Hopefully, Soak City will have a great atmosphere, and some more extravagent/themed features. It looks like the action river will have some cool elements, but I just hope that this isn't yet another step in converting an excellent theme park into a county fair.... KIBOB, hoping that Mr. Oimet will have some input on how this happens...

Dorney Park Announces "Stinger"
KIBOB replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That CGI woodie that was originally intended for CGA has been constructed and goes by the name of Prowler. I forgot where I read it, but there was a Q&A with Kinzel and one of the questions had to do with "When will Cedar Fair ever invest capital into a new ride at CGA." The response; "We had plans to build a wooden rollercoaster, but our disputes with the landlord had blocked the plans, so we instead moved the planned coater to Worlds of Fun."...or something similar to that. KIBOB, just trying to be informative, regardless if it helps or not. EDIT: I just realized that the post I quoted by goodyellowkorn was from February. Sorry folks! -

Kings Dominion's Haunt site is now up. An interesting thing to note is that they are showing Elvira's Superstition this year. Have they done this at all during the past few years? It would be nice if it was coming back to Kings Island as well.

Never say never. There are only a few more months left of the person who prides Cedar Point like a superb child. Also, Cedar Point doesn't have the amount of room to expand that is nearly equivalent to the size of the current park.

This is very suprising, considering that it is almost the end of the fourth FULL year that Cedar Fair has owned the former Paramount Parks. Actually, when I renewed my pass this year, my bank statement read "PARAMOUNT'S Kings Island". I think that the parks automated phone system still said "Thank you for calling Paramount's Kings Island" on some of the menus as recent as last season. This brings me to another question, I wonder if the original old english style logo is present anywhere within the park. (No, I am not referring the the new "vintage" gear they have in the shops. ), or was Paramount very adequate in removing all traces of the logo. The ironic thing is; it seems as though Cedar Fair likes to refrain from referencing the era between 1993 and 2006, yet they are so lenient on removing the logo.. By the way, the cover-up stickers on WWC are starting to peal off.

It isn't, but it's within 60 miles...

Apparently the Dino that had caught on fire has returned with full force! Check out KI's Facebook page.

Wasn't the top of the second large hill (going into the painb.. I MEAN rosebowl) already highly banked in the direction of AE? I mean, I guess it's not impossible for that section of track to become unstable and slightly shift, but after only 2.5 years? It would be frightening if SoB was really THAT flawed. However, I have not been to the park lately, so I really have no say in what may or may not be going on.

I think that for a large portion of the GP, they do not have a clue who or what Cedar Fair is. I think this is primarily due to CF not slapping their name on all their parks (thank God), and in general, just not being as "out there" as other operators. Many times I hear people saying that Cedar Point owns Kings Island. With the Six Flags thing, I think that is a combination of people seeing the random groupings of "Six Flags" around the park, as well as the CF typeface dotting the "i"s with flags. Which is kind of funny if you think about it.

Perhaps Cedar Fair is hoping to avoid the costs of demolition by allowing nature to do it for them. It may take a few decades, but hey it's cheaper right? Don't worry, I can assure you that I caught a glimpse of Dick Kinzel himself standing at the base of the lift hill with a jar of what appeared to be termites, and an axe. Ah, the operations guy at work. His last major "contribution" before retirement I suppose.

Actually, WindSeeker caught many of us by surprise last year, as the summer was coming to a close and KI made an announcement about a ride announcement just a day or two before the ride announcement. (Was that clear?)

I thought the remaining pieces for Ghoster Coaster and KC were scrapped around the same time as the steel frame of SoB's loop.

Canada's Wonderland 2012
KIBOB replied to Beast1979's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Typical Cedar Fair. Although I think this ride looks outstanding, it's funny how besides the color of the track, the ride looks to have no relation with water whatsoever. The ride is named after a sea creature.... -

I'm just surprised (not to mention relieved) the coaster isn't red..... -
No problem, I'm just waiting for the day when we tell people that KI was at one point owned by a movie studio company, we recieve blank stares in return.

(As apparently as it played out) Mr. Kinzel has had his eyes on Kings Island since it's inception. Cedar Fair (Kinzel) had always viewed Kings Island as a beautiful, well-maintained, and high potential property. When the announcement arrose that CBS corporation was selling its Paramount Parks division, Cedar Fair (again, Kinzel) jumped to the opportunity. In my opinion, I'd compare it to almost like getting the car that you have always wanted. However (also apparently), despite Cedar Fair's primary interest in Kings Island, CBS wanted an "all or none" where each park should be purchased by the same company. It was with consideration that Cedar Fair bought the entire chain for staggering amount of money. Despite the board originally thinking that each of the parks would pay for the aquisition in due time, and also trememdously increase the capital income for the company, hard times hit with the economy, and Cedar Fair has struggled with there one and a half billion dollars of debt. So far, things are looking up for Cedar Fair. I have faith that the new CEO will not only improve the park experiences greatly, but also work at the same time to widdle down the mountain of debt.

That could be horrific. One small glitch, and you have an enclosed building with 56 people already tied to a spit. No thanks on real flames. I so agree:) Not to mention that without adequate ventillation, there could be a buildup of toxic gases such as Carbon Monoxide. That coupled with the consequences of a possbile gas leak, or a fire as stated above could risk the lives of many patrons. Case in point, The artificial "fabric" flames are an excellent idea.

Camden Park: Spider Collapses

Just take a few looks at some of the GASM decontruction photos. Metal fatgue can clearly be seen in several of those photos. -
Fog was used prior to entering the tunnel after the helicopter scene. Search for a BLSC POV on youtube, and you may run across a video where everything is operational, including the fog effect.

All I have to say is, instead of walking directly out through the gates onto I-Street, where you would likely be rudely held up by a mob of photographers, sneak to the right into Convenience Corner. Pretend that an item within the shop caught your eye, and walk out onto I-Street towards the bathrooms. It appears as though you were already in the park.
