  1. I would say 4 years old is a perfectly fine age to go to KI! True she may not remember it, but it's a poor excuse to not let a child have fun just because they may not remember it. Might as well lock them in their room until they're old enough to remember stuff! I have 2 boys, a 4 year old and a 5 1/2 year old, and we just went last weekend and had a blast. Their first visit was last year and they also had a blast that day. They are pretty brave kids and gave every ride a try. I heard Boo Blasters was going to be scary (they loved scooby last year) but we did it anyway and it was still their favorite ride. The only one that really scared them was Woodstock express (beastie, fairly odd coaster, etc), but that IS a pretty intense ride for kids that young. They weren't emotionaly scarred or anything and they had a good laugh when the ride was over... but that first hill gave them a good scream! They had an awesome day filled with fun rides, meeting characters, watching shows, eating blue ice cream, and seeing the sights - they even enjoyed the view from the Eiffel Tower without any fear at all! Of course they thought they were only 25 feet up. (I told them 300 but they didn't believe me haha) And my final arguement is that kids that young DO remember. My 5 1/2 year old asked if we could ride "the train with the bear", which we hadn't even talked about since he rode it last year yet he remembered the bear on KI&MVRR. And yes there are several rides that have a next to zero thrill factor and are designed for younger children (2-5 yrs). Hope that helps and if you decide to go.. have fun!
  2. that wouldn't be so bad.. Sam's Cola still only 25 cents a can? They'd probably add 20 new rides that would all break after running once or twice.
  3. I read this in today's questions. I felt the need to respond to it then and there, but thought my repsonse was better suited in a discussion forum rather than a Q&A. Not sure if the person that asked this is a KICer, but if so then I'm not trying to knock him or argue.. just wanted to add an apposing view. I'm 6'4" and I would agree Vortex's trains aren't comfortable for tall people. Though I think FOF is way worse.. i can barely squeeze into those seats and the restraint makes it impossible for me to sit up straight. But i'd say it's an exaggeration to say Vortex's seats are "very painful". Maybe if you're taller than I am because I know at my height i just fit and am glad I'm not any taller. I try to sit in the front seat of any of the cars (odd # rows) you'll get more leg room than in the even # rows. And finally the amount of money it would cost to buy new trains for Vortex could be used for rides with worse problems (like flight deck needing paint and SoB needing to run again).
  4. And Firehawk apparantly opened in 2007 as well as 1997 haha. oh well. i'm sure they'll fix the little things in time.
  5. Love the "history" section in all of the ride details. There's some interesting stuff in there. New site is awesome. Yes sad to see no SoB on the park map, but it's not like it's a big shock to anyone.
  6. I know what you mean about the FoF line going fast but seeming slow. I think it's because you're trapped in that building and can't see or hear the park around you so it's boring. I guess the first time waiting was cool, but after that the theming, though still pretty awesome, just isn't quite as interesting anymore. And omg when the ac is'nt on in there it's a miserable wait. But very worth it. I've waited in that hot building for 45 min to ride it and i'd do it again!
  7. 2009 opening day was pretty packed, but still totally worth it. Of course the large crowd was mainly due to Diamondback. For the first few hours wait times weren't bad, but it got pretty busy in the afternoon. So this year without there being a brand new thrill ride I would imagine opening day won't be too crowded. The newly rethemed Planet Snoopy just might attract a big crowd opening day. Again, yes, weather plays a huge role. If it's a warm, sunny day then expect atleast 30-60 min waits for most attractions. If it's cold and/or raining expect little to no wait time. But even long lines for some of the rides go quick - Diamondback, Vortex, Flight of Fear, The Beast, The Racer and BLSC all have a high hourly capacity. I'm personally going to wait to take advantage of the early ride time. Since I can't make it opening day my options are 2nd or 3rd weekend, so it's worth it to me to wait an extra week. It's so awesome to ride Diamondback several times in a row before the park opens to the public. On a day with a 30 min ERT I can easily get 6 or 7 rides on DB including a short break or two. Could shoot for 10 if you go non stop! hope that helps.
  8. good idea worst smell: random sewage odors in various spots in the park worst sight: people wearing skimpy clothing, i.e. bellies hanging out, plumber crack, etc worst touch: sitting in a seat on a dry ride that some soaking wet person just sat in worst taste: coaster corn worst sound: a group of pre-teen girls sitting behind you on a ride and SCREAMING in unison
  9. first of all... coaster corn? that's epic. and I've never had the displeasure of trying coaster corn. But now I'll definitely try keeping my mouth closed as much as possible on rides! I could see this becoming a new trend. Instead of hearing screams as trains descend a hill you'll hear "mmmmmmmmmmm"
  10. off ride: screams -- not in a demented way -- well ok sorta on ride: the sound the air makes whipping past my ears... when you can hear how fast you're going. especially on Diamondback!
  11. I see.. personally I don't understand why people go to such great lengths to try to skip a line. I don't think I'm better than anyone else, so I wait my turn. Unless I feel I've paid my dues to get special treatment... ERT makes that few extra bucks for the gold pass soooooo worth it. And getting back to topic... Anyone know of KI banning a repeat trouble maker? Which I'm sure is not entirely possible. Or how about a season pass being revoked from someone that was kicked out?
  12. I don't get it... they have a system that allows anyone to hold a spot in a line, a line in which they are not waiting, and it's free and available to everyone? So, in theory, if everyone took advantage of this at the same time then no one would have to wait in line? Or am I missing something? If the answer is as complicated as I suspect please feel free to move on with your life and ignore me
  13. haha that's great. Tiger said "you aint stealing MY christmas you old grinch!" Speaking of fun holidy videos... elfyourself.jibjab.com is always fun. they have some pretty good ones this year.
  14. I've never been afraid of heights. One of my favorite activities as a kid was to climb trees and my goal was to find the biggest tree and climb as high as I could. I'm a utility worker, so I do a lot of latter climbing and boom lift operating 20 to 40 feet up. I have no fear of heights on any coaster or on Eiffel Tower. But there's something about Drop Tower that gives me a great big scare haha. Going up is fun and I love the view at the top.. plus the thrill of being that high up in chair in the open wind is awesome. I think the fear comes in the falling part. So I'm not afraid of heights, but I'm scared to death of falling. If Drop Tower went down as slowly as it went up I'd have no fear on it, but wheres the fun in that?! If the day comes that DB has lost its thrill, then I can always count on Drop Tower to scare the bejesus out of me!
  15. If I paid that much money for a hotel room I wouldn't want to walk out and see the pool and water slides packed full of people that paid 10 bucks to get in. Especially since there's 2 water parks nearby.
  16. on Sunday I was in line for DB under the track between the station and the lift hill... I looked up and noticed a lot of gum in the net. I could only assume it's because people on DB are attempting to spit their gum on the people in line. Sticking it on walls and rails is bad enough, but spitting it onto innocent people just trying to have fun? That leads me to ask... has anyone had gum spit on them while waiting in line for DB?
  17. me too.. I might have been on that train WITH you haha
  18. DB is really great in EVERY seat.. but yes the front seat is awesome. it just amazes me how different of a ride experience it is in different rows. I think my fav row is 13. I was riding when that person threw up. When I got back I saw them hosing the station down.. I guess I didn't even notice they sent an empty train through. That's funny.
  19. nice photos. The bright sun shining through the dark ride looks really cool. here are my favs I took:
  20. Yesterday FriedOreoGirl and I had a great last day of the season at KI. We planned on meeting up with the other KICers in the morning, but we ran late and didn’t get there until 11. We stopped at McDonalds at the exit before KI and overheard some funny stuff. A lady was yelling at her group of teens, “would you hurry up and order?! We’re already late! I don’t even know how to get there!!” We wondered if they were going to KI and sure enough we saw them in the Diamondback station about an hour later. She still looked angry lol. We were super excited to be at KI because we had already made our “last trip” in early October. And the short lines everywhere were a dream come true. Our goal was to take our season-long Diamondback ride count of 20 and double it in one day. We came close, we got 15 rides putting our total at 35. We live 3 hours away, so compared to some of you that live closer… 35 rides is pretty good! On the 9th ride we got a great on ride photo…. We had plenty of time to ride several other rides. I don’t think we waited in line longer than 5 minutes all day. After a while we decided to make a final stroll through Nick Universe. And since we were taking a DB break and the lines were so short we figured we’d ride some kiddy rides for the heck of it (and before the names got changed). We rode Reptar for the first time. I can’t wait until my kids are big enough for that one. We also rode Avatar and Fairly Odd Coaster. Then she started getting sentimental and begged Patrick to stay… Got some good “guests say the darndest things” moments: We rode ki&mvrr and sat behind a woman and two kids about 9 or 10. Here's what I remember: shortly after the train ride started... boy: We're leaving Kings Island!! (points to wwc) what's that mom? mom: that's where the old raft ride used to be. they don't run it anymore boy: where did all the water go? mom: when it gets cold enough it evaporates when passing the boomerang bay entrance... mom: this is where they let you off to go to River Rapids boy: Are those water slides? mom: yep it's all water slides back there boy: (pointing at Awesome Aussie Twister) look at the twisted one! mom: that's Super Awesome twister boy: Twist-UH, mom.. super awesome twista! when arriving back at the station.... boy: Is this where we started? mom: uh...um... this is where you'll get off had some other good ones. While exiting Diamondback we heard a kid say "Diamondback almost ripped our faces off!" While waiting in line for the fairly odd coaster... girl: why is Son of Beast closed? mom: someone died on it (girl looks horrified) mom: well it's not like they died by laying on the tracks or anything throughout the day i also heard people refering to nick U as "kiddie land" i don't know how many times. I heard a lot of people planning illogical “next ride” decisions. For example: at Diamondback “next let’s go to flight deck” or at Flight of Fear “next let’s ride Diamondback”…. do these people actually walk back and forth all day instead of walking from ride to ride? Waiting for The Beast at around 6:30 a guy said “yes! We get the red train! That’s the fastest one!” hahaha.. I don’t know if he was serious or just wanted to make it into a post. Either way it was funny. Walking right into the FoF station midday was really nice. We skipped FH because the wait was longer than 10 minutes haha. I also got one last ride on Vortex and man it seems to get shakier every time I ride it. The final break about gave me whiplash. Not complaining though, it was totally worth it! We spread the DB rides out throughout the day. When the sun began to set we spent a couple hours riding back to back as it got darker and darker. The last ride, 35th of the season, was our first ever night ride on DB and it was AMAZING!! We also got night rides on The Beast and The Racer. That would be wicked if KI would open the park all night some time. An entire trip of nothing but night rides! Leaving the park at the end of the night was bitter sweet. I was sad to think that it will be half a year before we get the chance to make some new KI memories. But I was glad I got the opportunity to visit the park on the last day of the season. I just became a KI fanatic in 2008. So 2009 has been a year to remember. We were there on opening day. We made a total of 8 trips - one 2 day trip, so 9 days spent at the park. We got 3 amazing rides on SoB, a ride I didn’t care for last year. But atleast I got to like it a few times while I still could. We took our two boys, 3 and 4, in June and I know they had a blast because they still talk about it all the time! We made a trip in July and we both had a cold, but were determined. We ended up leaving after a few hours and only rode 6 rides, we spent twice as long driving there and back as we did in the park hahaha. We spent a total of about 50 hours in drive time to and from KI. We spent around 80 hours in KI. Experienced attractions about 150 times (mostly rides, some shows and haunts). I don’t want to try to figure out how much money we spent lol. And we stayed until the last minute of the last day and saw the season out to the end, and it was by far the best trip all year! Well thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see what 2010 has in store. ~Vortex Junkie & FriedOreoGirl
  21. I think fof is more fun when it's good and dark in there. The first time I rode it I remember being amazed, looking around in the dark to barely see that I was surrounded by a spaqhetti bowl mess of twisted steel tracks. Going through the first few inversions in the dark I couldn't even tell which way was up. It's just not as fun for me when I can clearly see where I'm going. Same thing with the final tunnel on BLSC. Last saturday they had the lights on in there and it was pretty lame. Rode it again on sunday and was happy to go through a pitch black tunnel again. Fun tip: ride a coaster with your eyes closed. It's an interesting experience and heightens your ability to feel all of the forces.. unless you've ridden it several times before and can anticipate every turn.
  22. I've seen line jumpers almost every visit this year. I'm not looking for them.. it's just hard not to notice when they push past you or squeeze between you and your group to get to their group. And you're standing there thinking "ok, so this line doesn't apply to you?" Over the weekend I didn't see any line jumping and infact I saw one group that went BACKWARDS in the line to meet with the rest of their group. That's the way it should be.
  23. I'll miss Nick U just because it was great this summer to see my kids' eyes light up when they saw spongebob and diego and all of their other favorites. I'm sure they'll have just as much fun next year, but I don't see them screaming "Look dad, it's Linus!"
  24. Just being at KI means I'll have a good day. So long lines make it less fun and short lines make it awesome! Rude people can ruin your fun if you let them, but I've learned to just ignore them. I'll let rude people get to me when they cut me off on the highway, but at KI I'll NEVER let them ruin my fun again. Another thing that can take way some of the fun is being brought back to reality. Like when they're playing football on the TV's in Festhaus. Seemed like I was eating in a sports bar. But even if there were no lines, no basketballs bouncing, no rude people, no line jumpers, no screaming children, no rides down, and no rain... still wouldn't be any fun without someone to share the memories with you. Ok that sounded cheesey.. short lines rock
  25. No it's normally empty. I think there is grass there that is now dying so it looks like dirt from high up.
