  1. Answer me one question. Rumor of an "inverted wing coaster" What difference would it make for the ride experience? The riders are outside the track (I have been on one wing coaster) and I cannot figure out what difference of a ride experience it could be making the track "inverted". It would NOT make a difference whatsoever if the track was inverted or not. Because the riders are on the outside of the track. Please explain if I am wrong.
  2. For me, The Hurler at Kings Dominion. Also not of fan of standing coasters. King Cobra, and Shockwave hurt like heck. My main problem was not the actual coaster or concept, just I am 6'5" and the Togo restraints hurt the tops of my shoulders. Mantis and CP, not too bad.
  3. I agree. The smell of grease/lubricant on the wooden coasters. I love the "roar" of a B&M coaster.
  4. I am pretty large in size (height/weight) 6'5" 265LBS. I have been on several coasters that I hear that "click" several times. With that being said, I have experienced myself, having my lap bar comfortable (at least two clicks) but I have a little room for comfort. Then the ride op comes by and shoves down on the restraint even more. This makes it uncomfortable to some extent. Hearing this sad and tragic story, makes me glad they do it.
  5. It is kinda hard to tell about roll back devices on Shoot the Rapids.
  6. Terrible news for amusement parks from the weekend. Texas Giant death, boat flips at Cedar Point (Shoot the Rapids) Camden Park Fire, and finally the Smiler at Alton Towers has a bolt sheer off and create a "gap" between track pieces.
  7. According to local news, the park will be closed Sunday and Monday.
  8. I heard a rumor years ago, that Cedar Point may build and expand to the parking lot and then have parking further out. Does the overflow parking get used very often?
  9. The second launch looks pointless to me. Why didn't they just have the LIMs continue the train along the course and launch it over that last air-time hill. Seems a little strange to stop the coaster train, back up, and then hit the launch to make it over that hill. Just me, seems odd.
  10. Talk about slow (please KICers and KI employees, I am kidding) Try a hospital, You better be dying if you want them to hurry. (not gonna happen) I work in the surgery dept in a local hospital (not Cincinnati) Things are generally slow, and the guests (patient)are usually not feeling well. Coasters and amusement parks are fun. Take time, and enjoy yourself and quit stressing about your 400th time on Diamondback. I am lucky to hit KI every few years. We "stack" operating rooms with many cases, and try to move as quickly as possible. Sometimes patients show up late or all together not show up at all.
  11. I am not a fan of Hurler at Kings Dominion. I also dislike Shock Wave/King Cobra. I am not a fan of the Togo model of standing coasters, I am 6'5 and the restraints are painful for me (mainly the tops of my shoulders.) Mantis, doesn't bother me at all.
  12. Speaking of Myrtle Beach amusement parks. Upon one trip to a nearby campground, my Mom's friend had a camping site. We went to an amusement park, that was a small park with about 3 coasters and a bunch of nice flat rides. The park was called Magic Harbor. Does anyone remember this park? I have tried to find photos, with no luck. Its alleged to me that I went to that park many times I just happened to be to young to recall. If you scroll down quite a ways on the page on the link there's some pictures of the park and another link to some others. I would've replied sooner but I kept looking at other tidbits. http://htomc.dns2go.com/myrtle/ Thanks for the info. I really enjoyed seeing some old photos of Magic Harbor.

  14. I love Meanstreak, and have never had a bad experience on it. My question is, What is wrong with The Voyage? I don't think it's a namby-pamby coaster by any means. You are entitled to your opinion, but I think The Voyage is a pretty intense coaster, and I think it's fun.
  15. I went a few years ago to ride Swamp Fox.While walking in, a young husband and wife were leaving (bought wristband) and asked if we wanted theirs. They carefully slid them off and we put them on our wrist and rode the coaster for free. Best day ever!!
  16. I was thinking, does anyone have information if Holiday World will ever run Timberliner trains on The Voyage?
  17. I was stuck on Top Gun (at that time, it was still called this) we were escorted down, and given the same voucher for a "free cut" to the front of any ride line. It was not mentioned in the news or on KIC
  18. I wish Holiday World would get a steel coaster (besides the Howler) It would make a nice break between the wood coasters. We went from Raven, to Legend and then two back to back spins on the Voyage. My brain was jack hammered after all of that. Tried a few of the flat rides, so we could get some kind of relief. LOL It was an Aleve day. One pill, all day long, all day strong.
  19. Our Holiday world trip started out with a spin on The Raven, The Legend and finally my new #1 favorite The Voyage. All three coasters are fantastic, but The Legend just seemed to beat the crap out of me on the helix. I still love this coaster, but WOW!! We went to hunt our turkey on Gobbler Getaway. After leaving that attraction, it started to rain. The rain continued for about an hour and a half. We looked through the shops and wondered if it would ever stop. (didn't look like it) Alas, it did with one great thing, the park was pretty empty. Walked onto every coaster, with a max of 5 minutes. We rode a few flat rides and then hit all the coasters several more times. We walked over to the water park around four o'clock and stuck our tired feet in the pool. Turns out, this is where everyone went to. I finished my day with a back to back Voyage trip. I took an Aleve (lol) and we made our way to the parking lot. After traveling most of the evening and into the night, we found a hotel near Knoxville, and rested our weary bodies. We awoke on Monday June 10th to pouring rain. I looked at the radar and it didn't look good. Scattered showers all day with at least 40% chance of rain. Since my tickets were bought for me (thanks to my Uncle Ken) We had nothing to lose. Made it to the park and the weather was sunny and cool all day long. I am gonna give a quick review of the coasters, in no particular order. Wild Eagle was amazing and smooth as glass. Thunderhead was one of my favorites. Blazing Fury, enjoyable, Tennessee Tornado, very good. Mystery Mine was probably the coolest themed coaster of the park. I took about three spins on most coasters and loved the uniqueness of each one. This was my first trip to Dollywood, and I must say, loved the southern hospitality. This is one of my favorite parks, and a bonus...the park is well shaded. Now, the rest of the day. I rode the Dollywood Express to the top of the mountain (I suggest everyone take a trip on this) What a blast, nice scenery and the ride was relaxing. We stopped for lunch at The Dog and Tater, I had the foot-long corn dog, it was delicious. I also found "on accident" the roller coaster museum and took a short walk thru. Quite nice. After leaving the park we met up with fellow KIC members violakat03 and dare-to-fly. We enjoyed a nice conversation and a Firehouse sub. We went across the street and raced go-carts and had a blast. Finally, back to the hotel and got some much needed rest. All in all, I had a fantastic two days at Holiday World and Dollywood, meet a couple of KICers and actually dreading coming home. I want to thank Kat, for meeting us and enjoying some nice coaster chat and putting me on the slowest go cart in Tennessee. Just kidding (she lapped me twice) Two good days of coasters, food and fun, beats a great day at work anytime. I hope to return to Dollywood in a few years and see what's new. Until then?????
  20. With the day and age of everyone on edge with the Boston explosion, I can see where this might be a problem. Sad that this is what the world has come to.
  21. It is not like they don't know that you are out there. The ride operator that can track the position of each train, knows exactly where they were. Seems a bit silly to me but??????
  22. I too got stuck on the break run. Apparently, someone threw-up and the ride operators had to help the guest, and do a little clean/sanitizing. They ran the "clean" train, a few cycles, empty to dry the ride just a bit.
  23. I grew up in the 80s, so I enjoy Hard rock/Heavy Metal.
  24. I heard the rumor that Cedar Point ditched the name (I guess at the last minute) of the urging of others. I read that on ebay, because someone had a Banshee button for sale, and the description mentioned this.
