  1. I just found out that a fellow KIC member Keith Harrison (KIFan1980) passed away last night after a heroic battle with cancer.

I first met Keith at the Diamondback station waiting in line. I was new to KIC and to being a coaster enthusiast. Keith recognized me from my avatar and extended his hand to welcome me to the family.

I will miss you for now, but am sure that we will meet again and i know that his hand will be outstretched when we reunite.

  2. While I have not been able to find anything on any of KI's site or FB page laying out exactly what they are getting. I can say that Action Rivers are a lot of fun. They were our favorite thing to do at Schlitterbahn when we were there in June.

  3. Yesterday we were at the park and while waiting in The Beast queue we were line jumped by 3 twenty somethings. This turned into an incident but before I go there, I would like to get the groups feeling on what we as park guest should do when we are line jumped.

BTW, just to make it clear, I am talking about line jumping in the regular queue and not Fast Lane or paid line jumping.

  4. Jesse, I am in no way upset about this. My feeling is as I stated, disappointed, it is almost like someone told me that Santa Claus isn't real.

I have been going to Holiday World since before I became an enthusiast. Everything that they have ever done is just the way I would do it if I were running my own park. So when they decided to add an up-charge it goes against the way I would do it and thus my illusion of the perfect park has been shattered.

I have emailed Dan my feelings, but have not gotten a response yet.

  5. For the first time ever, I came away from yesterdays visit to Holiday World feeling disappointed. Not with the park, but with their 2012 season pass changes. After another wonderful day at the park I was handed a season pass flyer as we were exiting the park.

In 2012 the Holiday World season pass will only be good through September 30th, not the entire season. While they have extended the season two additional weekends in October, in reality they have removed 2 weekends from the value of the regular season pass. They are also offering the 4 weekends they will be open in October as an "up-grade" for an additional $30. I see up-grades as nothing more than a cash grab and is something I would have NEVER expected Holiday World to do.

Holiday World passes are among the most expensive in the industry and with the addition of the “up-grade” are the highest that I have been able to find for a seasonal park. They are even higher than a Cedar Fair Platinum pass which is good for all of their wet and dry parks. I have purchased Holiday World passes for the past few years because I have always found the value in Holiday World’s experience. I don’t feel that way about 2012.

What's next? Will there be Dinosaurs wandering around southern Indiana?

  6. First WindSeeker and now Dinosaurs Alive. Welcome to Kings Island North. :)

Of course this was expected and not a surprise at all.

We went through KI's DA once and enjoyed it, but I doubt we do it again. Adding back the missing Dino won't make it worth another trip either. I never see us going though the one at CP. Been there, done that, then went and rode a coaster.

  7. While we were waiting in the regular queue for DB yesterday, we noted that EVERY train had multiple empty seats on it. In many cases empty rows. I also noted that they were not assigning seats and barely pulsing the station. I feel that getting rid of the SRL was a mistake that will never allow DB to ever come close to running at full capacity. IMO the design of the train is as close to perfect as can be made. It allows single riders to use the wing seats and not have to ride shoulder to shoulder with a stranger (and lets face it, some at the park are a bit stranger then strange).

From my discussions with park employees, this system is STILL a work in progress. I think it is something that is here to stay, but may show up in a very different format in the future. I would suggest sending in your suggestions to the park. Just telling them that you hate the system because it is unfair will not get very far, but offering up suggestions as many have done here will have more of an impact.

  8. KIfan1980, ever since I have been purchasing Six Flags passes, parking has never been included. You could purchase a parking upgrade and in the past that was good at all the parks. For 2011 it is only good at your home park.

We were lucky, when we went to the Spring Fling at SFOG each of us got a free parking at any other SF park but SFOG. Those have come in handy this year.

  9. While I wouldn't call $179 or even $149 a steal. I have never had a problem with the price. I do think that a nearly 10% increase at a time when the economy is in the tank does not make since to me from a business stand point. Now if you want to talk about a steal. All Six Flags passes are good at all of their dry parks. Depending on what park you purchase this at it can be under $50 per person. Now that does not include parking so it isn't exactly apples to apples.

  10. I was looking at the Worlds of Fun website earlier and noticed that they are advertising a Season Pass sale for September 2-5.

They are advertising the sale price for Platinum Passes at $149 with the regular price of $179. This is up $14 from the 2011 price of $165 or nearly 10%.

I have no idea how WOF's regular passes correspond to KI's regular passes so I won't comment on those. In the past though Platinum Passes have been the same company wide.

So will Kings Island or Cedar Point put their passes on for sale this year? Time will tell.

  11. gad, thank you for your clear and well thought out post. The only thing I will add to it is that if there are few people using FL, it will have minimal impact on the stand-by line but it will also have minimal impact on the bottom line of KI and would most likely go away. If on the other hand it becomes more widely used, it will stay and grow to other parks. The downside of that is to the regular plain ole ordinary guest it will cause additional waiting.

From what I have been told a group of coaster enthusiast will be in the park tomorrow and have purchased 55 Fast Lane wristbands. These are more then likely power riders that will not waste much time doing anything but riding coasters. Just think if they all decide to head to Diamondback at the same time. They will fill 1 1/2 trains then get off and go around in about the time they can load 1-2 trains of non-FL before they get back on. Repeat then rinse ad nauseum. If you see this group heading toward the ride your standing in line for, you might as well get out of line and head somewhere else.

While they may not stay in a pack, I am kind of hoping that they do to show the park how poorly conceived the current version of Fast Lane is.

I will say again that I am not opposed to a Fast Lane system. If they would limit it to 1 ride on each of the 10 attractions instead of unlimited usage 100% of my issues with it would go away. This would also allow the park to offer it at a lower price and even potentially offer more of them without significantly effecting the wait times of those not using Fast Lane.

  12. There are currently only 2 wooden coasters in China. I was told that the GCI at Knight Valley is still not open to customers even though the ride is complete. Seems the hold up is getting the government to certify the ride. Since wooden coasters are such a rare breed in China, they don't have anything to compare. This was told to me on July 24th of this year. Their was supposed to have been a representative from GCI at Coasting for Kids-Worlds of Fun, but he was on a plane back to China to try to get the ride open.

So before I would worry too much about Beast losing a record, I would want to see these other coasters open and running. Besides, record or not we will still be enjoying night rides in our own back yard. rolleyes.gif

  13. We were at Fiesta Texas and had the pleasure of watching their "Ovation" show. It was in a real theatre with a real sound system and a live band. There were over 20 singers and at least 10 in the band. While it was a similar format to the typical sing alongs, it features a montage from Broadway shows.

What I always thought would be a fun show is a take off on the "win it in a minute" game show.

  14. From an email I received today: Sad news to report the passing of Lee Merrick, owner of Little Amerricka amusement park and Merrick locomotive works in Marshall Wisconsin past away yesterday morning. Visitation is at Crest Funeral Home in Sun Prairie WI Sunday 4-7 pm. The funeral will to be held at the Blue Rose (back of the park) 700 E. Main St. Marshall, Wi. @ Little Amerricka Monday 2-4 pm. The park and locomotive shop have a good secure future.
