  1. I think this makes a ton of sense for Six Flags. The kiddie coaster is a minimal capital expenditure. Reworking Superman again in the big picture is a minimal expense and the Zacspin is not a major expense at around 7 million. So for 10 million or so they can claim the "crown". If you look at the other announced "new" attractions they are only putting up 2 new coasters chain wide. Does anyone here know (and is willing to share) what a euro-fighter costs? RCDB list Mystery Mine at 17.5 million but Rock Bottom Plunge at only 2.9 million.
  2. Looks like Superman will be going backwards, the kid coaster from SFNO and a ZacSpin. I hope to make it to Cali next year for these and more. I guess that the Coaster wars aren't as dead as everyone thought. "Six Flags Magic Mountain Recaptures the Coveted Thrill Park Crown"
  3. I have ridden 11 of them and hope to get on #12 this weekend. Of those, Racer, Screaming Eagle and Swamp Fox are my favorites.
  4. I love FP at WDW, and have used it extremely efficiently on both of last years trips. I found it funny, just how many people didn't even know that the system was available to ALL guests. They just assumed that it was something special for on property guests or was an extra charge. As to using them late, we did that almost every time we used them. The bus drivers often mentioned this as did many of the attendants at the FP machines. As to KI, the longest line I have waited in this season was 45 minutes for Diamondback during a haunt Saturday night. I don't think that KI even at it's busiest comes close to a typical day at WDW.
  5. Six Flags, Haunt and Fire have to send a shiver up your back when you hear those 3 words together.
  6. I don't understand why Boo is closed during haunt. It seems stupid to me to have a "ghost" ride and then close it during the Halloween Haunt season.
  7. One point to remember is that it has been exactly 1 week since the purchase and only a bit longer since they even thought about the project. In such a short amount of time quite a bit has actually happened. I feel that the .com site has done quite a bit of damage if only for the fact that it has been a distraction from the real issues of this project.
  8. We were at the park yesterday and when we rode Drop Tower we noticed that the ride no longer spun. I don't know if this is the way it shall be in the future or just the way it was yesterday. The reason I ride DT is for the view not so much the drop. If the view is just of the parking lot I will take a pass. One other note, I think the belts have shrunk from earlier in the season or at least the ones where I was sitting. Normally I can get the belt fastened by myself, but yesterday I required assistance. While I know I am a big guy, I rode El Toro last weekend with no problems (notorious for it's tight fit).
  9. I watched the webcast. Where can apply to get the 1/2 hour of my life back. That had to be the WORST webcast I have ever seen.
  10. Very confusing the way this is written. Are they announcing a new park in NYC or just making the announcement from NYC.
  11. Rustbelt, what I don't get is how you ranked Renegade so high? Of the eight GCI's that I have ridden I found it to be the most lacking. Ranking coasters it really tough. I have gotten some amazing rides on some normally less then amazing coasters and some dud rides on some supposedly terrific coasters. I still don't get what the big deal is with Phoenix.
  12. From the 2 clips I don't see anything exciting about this coaster. Of course that is just 2 clips and even if it showed the entire ride, no POV can simulate the actual ride experience. I will try to hold off on making any firm judgments till I have actually ridden it.
  13. MF is a fine coaster, but compared to some of the others that you mentioned it is lacking. To me Bizarro at SFNE has the same feeling of speed as MF even though it is considerably slower. Bizarro has extreme long lasting ejector air unlike any coaster I have ever been on.
  14. While I am all for massive road trips, I think that Idaho is a bit too far for me to do over a weekend.
  15. My concern is about capacity. The star flyers only hold 24 per cycle. I can't see these doing more then 8 cycles per hour or less than 200 riders per hour. I would expect long lines for this. I also see that this will not be using fastpass.
  16. Did you notice that there was not a single Golden Ticket for the parks that number their flags. I guess they didn't feel like buying any advertisements in Amusement Today. You can see by my signature what I think the #1 coaster is.
  17. But then again according to Carowinds, someone that posts here frequently is a a liar and a thief because their pass system stinks.
  18. Thanks, the skies were perfect for taking pictures.
  19. We left the house just as soon as the girls got home from school on Friday afternoon. We spent the night in Portage WI which is just east of the Dells. The next morning we left at 6:45 AM and headed for Valley Fair. We got there just shortly after the park opened. Love the Valley Fair Sign. I bet it looked great at night. The first thing we saw was Wild Thing. We headed there and rode with just a 2 train wait. Their slingshot dominates the skyline. Wild Thing is by far the best of the 3 Morgan Hypers that I have ridden. Next up was High Roller. It had a few pops of air but was nothing special. With just a 1 train op the line crawled. Elizabeth & I rode looping starship since we both loved Berserker at KD. This one unfortunately was much slower and more painfull. The single op here also made for a very slow operation even though there was no line. We then rode Renegade. I was looking forward to this GCI but have to say I was disappointed with it. I would put it at or near the bottom of the list of the 8 GCIs I have ridden. We next headed back to Excalibur for a walk on. This was a one and done type of coaster. OUCH Green Giant was having a sweet corn festival at the park this weekend. They were giving out as much corn on the cob as you wanted. We each had close to 12 pieces which would be about 4 full ears of corn. It was some of the best corn I have ever had. MMMMM When we passed the Mouse earlier it was not opened. When it did open the line got long in a hurry. We waited it out and were rewarded with one of the best non-spinning mouse rides we have had. Love me some Ferris Wheel. I enjoyed their Corkscrew quite a bit. We next walked over to the other side of the park and all by itself sits Steel Venom. It was a fun ride with a nice catch on the back spike. Since we were only doing one day in the Minneapolis area we left the park around 4 PM and headed to Mall of America and Nick Universe. Part 2 coming in a bit.
  20. So he plans on taking KY money and spending it in OH & TN. This whole deal smells for the citizens of KY. I am surprised that this folly has continued this long.
  21. Won't be nothing at all. They announced that they would be announcing in September the new attraction for 2011. When I spoke with Pat shortly after Will's death, she told me that the 2011 plans and budget were all done before he passed. She also said that there was no reason to deviate from the plan that Will and Dan had laid out.
  22. I have stayed at the Hilton over a dozen times. I never had the urge to do this. The area of the hotel was always dead. It was a great place to go if you wanted to have a conversation because there was NOBODY there while the rest of the hotel/casino was always busy.
  23. I see we have another Bizarro fan. I feel that it is as close to coaster perfection as I have ridden.
