  1. who cares???>

i always thought that was a bit of an eye sore anyway.... not to mention there was never anything entertaining in there, as long as i can remember....

bigger question, we knew Vortex was getting a paint job, since ryans post yesterday... but are those black supports? or just an optical illusion from the clouds / rain today?

  2. hello....

just wondering if anyone would be interested in going in on a 4 pack of platinum passes. i know its not much, but the twenty dollar savings sure would be nice in this crappy economy we are living in. 150 sure beats the heck out of 170. let me know.

    thanks,

    kevin

  3. i feel rick roll.... errrr i mean train rolled...

haha i opened this forum thinking it had something to do with the cincinnati reds, whos opening day is my favorite holiday..

grr i should have known better. haha

i for one am very excited about just getting back into a park in general. i miss my coasters so much!!!

  4. when i was in about 12 or 13... so mid nineties, a friend and i were spending the day at ki while our parents took in tennis across the street, and i lost my tamogtatchi to The Beast. (sp) anybody remember those things?

my mother was ticked off. it was nearly brand new, and i had begged her to buy one for me since everyone else i knew had one. haha it was so trendy back then!

  5. okay, first of all, this video is just promotional. we have no way of knowing what the layout is going to bed. from what i understand, that video is just clips of different portions of the ride, in no specific order. until we know the exact layout of the ride, we can hardly call this ride lame. it is rumored to be heavily themed as well as very intense.

i have to ask, would you be calling it lame if it was being built at Kings Island? i doubt it. we would be praising the addition of a 135mph coaster, much like we did TTD even though it is a "one trick pony". S&S is known for world class attractions, and i'm sure stan and is crew will not disapoint with this new attraction.

  6. new wooden coaster trains

today at iaapa, the gravity group, known for world renowned wooden coasters all over the world made a big announcement. The creation of their new sister company "gravitycraft"

Gravitycraft will specialize in state of the art wooden coaster trains called "timberliner" available for the 2009 season. the new timberliner trains include the ability for launches and magnetic braking systems....

the topic title is a joke, obviously i do not expect a launched 4d wooden coaster, but i suppose anything is possible now....

head over to www.newsplusnotes.com (who was the first to break this story) for more info on the new company and trains.

  7. actually i was quite surprised to see our "crown" lacking a pine tree.

for decades it has been tradition to top off any major steel project (such as skyscrapers, coasters and bridges) with a pine tree and the flag of the country where the project is located.

I tried to look up the meaning, but found none. i guarantee you though that it has nothing to do with wooden coasters, or wood at all. it is something that has to do with the steel / construction industry for sure.

  8. when i was about 14, (so ten years ago) i was at ki with my brother, his girlfriend, and her younger sister (who was my age) and very attractive. haha so ultimately i was trying to impress her all day long. (she never seemed interested) well, at one point, i went to the restroom, walked in, and immediately walked back out because i had accidentally walked into the womens room...

that pretty much sealed the deal. haha no chance. she laughed hysterically, and everytime i see her, which is not very often anymore, she never lets me live it down.

  9. coney is really going to put a "twist" on the wet side of the park...

    just announced via enquirer.com:

    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20081023/ENT/81023009

    Twister.

a 4 slide tower at sunlite pool.

    2million capital investment

2 body slides, 2 tube slides

3 times as long as zoom flume

named after a coaster that operated in the 1920's at coney

should be a great investment for the park.

edit: i think we need to change the title of this now to "Coney Island 2009: Twister Construction".... and make sure that it gets just as much attention and posts / views as the Diamondback construction thread.

  10. "A: The primary reason for the different colored supports is we wanted to highlight the height of the ride. Diamondback will stand 230 feet at its highest point making it the tallest ride in the park."

does that mean Drop Tower is being removed? haha j/k.

though his statement should say tallest coaster in the park.

great to see updates on the blog, i'm loving every bit of this project so far!!

  11. i have been a season pass holder for 20 years now (i am currently 24)

and this is the first year that i did not have a pass, and failed to make it to the park in that amount of time, regardless of living less than a half hour away.

i do hope to make it to HH. currently shooting for the last day, Nov. 1st. haha hopefully i will make it.

i did however make it to CP last weekend. it was a great trip, even though saturday was very crowded.

  12. i was also at the park this weekend. though we passed on friday night since we did not arrive until afte 9pm, we just checked into the hotel.

saturday was crazy! thank goodness we got there around 11am, we were about 3/4ths of the way back in the lot. lines were already long. we got magnum, millie, skyhawk, then left to go to fridays for dinner. we returned around 6pm and had to park in the challenge park lot, no spots to be found anywhere!

we did get to check out every haunt except for undertaker u and the mummy one though, as well as catch an evening ride on raptor, skyride and dragster. The haunt lines really do move faster than you would think.

I for one was very entertained by corn stalkers, terror island and carn-evil becuase one of the girls i was with was absolutely terrified of everything! it was hillarious, the rest of the group (myself, a friend and his girlfriend) just kept cracking up laughing. Good times.

Sunday was much better. Much less crowded, got to do maverick, millie again, raptor again, maxair (which i agree is totally better than Delirium) disaster transport, dragster again, rode the train, played a round of putt-putt and hit a few more flats. it was a very enjoyable weekend, with great weather for october!

check out my pictures on my facebook album. (add me if you want)

  13. "the park strikes back"

    "move slowly, do not disturb"

anyone thought about "beast hunter" or something along those lines.

i know that type of theme for a coaster has been discussed before, and honestly, that was one of the first things i was thinking when i read the signs....

"be very very quiet, i'm hunting beasts" - elmer fudd at Kings Island???

  14. so robbie is really jumping over 24 Coke zero TRUCK CABS.... from what i can see

not to take anything away fron the guy, cause it is certainly nothing i would ever dream of doing....

however, the cab of a semi sits a good 2 ft. lower than the trailer of the truck.... with the advertising, i would be expecting him to jump the top point of the 24 trucks... not a lower point... ya know?

i would expect him to jump the trailer, not the cab...

unfortunately i am unable to attend, due to work conflicts, however i would love to be there to see this...

  15. when i was a teen, and we were in the park on crowded days, we would talk to ourselves for a few minutes, and then scream out a "hey (insert popular name)" and see who turned around. Haha if they were close enough, we would start a conversation and see if we could get them to say they "remembered us". it was alwyas fun, but after two or three times in a 2 hour line, people started to catch on to what you were doing an eventually started ignoring you.

met some pretty interesting people though

  16. I never ride carnival rides because they just look so dangerous like a strong gust of wind could knock them over at any time.

let me just say, that i have been working with a local carnival company for 7 years now, during the summers to help pay for college and other expenses. In those 7 years, not one ride has ever "blown over" because of wind gusts, and we operate several rides that rise over 40ft in the air. We close in inclement weather situations, which includes lightning, or high winds for safety reasons. Inflatable attractions (moon bounces and such) come down in winds over 15mph.

We operate a Rock-O-Plane, which maybe from the ground does not look sturdy, however i personally have seen it take winds of over 75MPH and not budge an inch during a storm in dayton just last summer.

These rides are SAFE. They all have very strong out-riggers to support themselves and brace themselves. They are not just going to "blow over" in a gust of wind.

while i suppose i understand your fears, and anything can happen at any time, carnival accidents are RARE. just as amusement accidents are. In my 7 years, the biggest accident we had involved a child jumping down our air slide, after being told not too (dis-obeying rules) and breaking his leg on impact. We carry with us one of the best safety records in the state of ohio, and the country.

All rides after being assembled on site are inspected by the assembly team, as well as by a supervisor. In many cases, a state inspector from the Department of Agriculture will check them as well before we are able to opearate. In addition to being checked at the time of being set-up, rides are also checked by employees every day before opening to the public at a given event, just like the rides at KI are tested on a daily basis.

it makes me sick that people are so afraid of carnival rides. i assure you they are safe. carnival rides and carnival workers have been given a bad reputation and stereotype by movies and the media, but it is false.

    thank you.

  17. could a diver be coming to ki? first the overly large round footing in the midway (similar th sheikra's) and now the apparent splashdown area..... hmmmmm

i sure wouldnt mind.... some people call dive machines "one trick pony's" but having personally been on sheikra and griffon, i beg to differ. they offer great, unique thrills time after time....

hyper or dive, either way, i'll be satisfied. heck, at least its pretty obvious are lucky enough to be getting a coaster right???
