For me, more often than not, if it's a B&M I have to sit in the front seat. Nearly every B&M I've been on has been better in the front than the back.

One day, The Beast will no longer be a ride at Kings Island.
Really! I guarantee it!
People also said that there would come a time when Big Dipper would no longer be a ride at Geauga Lake. I have a feeling that it will be the same scenario for The Beast and Kings Island.

I have a feeling that when Son of Beast DOES begin de-construction, the public will know about it. I also have a feeling that the public will be told about a brand new attraction in the exact same breath. Do I mean another large wooden coaster? No. Do I mean another thrill ride? Not necessarily. "We will begin dismantling SOB in the 20-- offesason, but we have a new attraction for the 20-- season!"

The tugging has NOT been there from the very beginning. It seems to come and go on Delerium, never noticed it on MaXair. Last year when the ride was broken down for a good 3 weeks, the tug was gone after it was re-opened. Assuming the tug is related to why the ride has so much downtime, it makes you wonder why they don't just replace the often defective part during the offseason so the ride doesn't have to sit there closed for a good chunk of the summer.

No snow days means schools get out much earlier than usual. That being said, Monday is a Monday, Tuesday is a Tuesday, and vacation time for families hasn't hit yet. Stay as long as you like, you'll get a lot done.

It's a good ride, but not something I think is worth keeping around. It's in an ugly tan building, and that area has soooo much potential. A wooden coaster along the beach would be awesome, as a tribute to the old Cedar Point Cyclone which was located pretty close to that area. I'd love to see that section of the park turn into an "extreme" Boardwalk section of the park. You have it almost there already - chair swings, ferris wheel, spinny flat ride, tower, and a launched coaster. Only these are some of the best of their kinds. I'd like a GCI coaster where the tan building sits.
One thing I'll say about Cedar Fair is that they don't just sit attractions at random. When they put up a big, new attraction they re-innovate the entire area around it. I hope the Wicked Twister midway gets the same type of re-innovation that Rivertown got when they built Diamondback.
That being said, the Million Dollar midway (old Wildcat area) WILL get some major work done to it. This has already been stated. The WIcked Twister Midway is all speculation as is.

Tackle Kings Island on Monday and Holiday World on Sunday. Holiday World is the smaller park, so crowds don't matter as much.
At Holiday World, Splashin' Safari is usually packed from lunchtime to the end of the day. The dry side is crowded for a couple hours after opening and a couple hours well into the afternoon (as the evening guests arrive). My advice would be to get the wet side of the park taken care of early, but it could be pretty inconvenient to walk around smelling like chlorine all day.
One day is plenty of time to do everything at Holiday World, and I recommend trying EVERYTHING. Liberty Launch is awesome, and the traditional flat rides have a really nice touch to them (the Chairswings in the Halloween section are fun!). Plymouth Rock Cafe gets a lot of recommendations, but I've never ate there. Kringles Cafe sells pizza which is usually pretty tasty.
The coasters run better later in the day, and shouldn't be missed at night. The Raven in the back seat at night should NOT be missed. Catch this before you leave.

I may have to make a trip up there this year. Skipped out last year, but this year sounds like a definite visit.
Not sure how I feel about Dinosaurs Alive becoming an institution in multiple parks, but it's something that attracts families so I guess it's a good thing.
Good to see infrastructure improving, and I can't wait to see what they decide to do with that Midway where Wildcat used to be. Fast Lane was something that was needed at the park too. Good to see Millennium getting a paint job too.

To me it's kinda odd that Invertago is open early instead of The Beast. The Beast is right there in the area anyway, so I don't see why they would open a ride clear across the park.
That being said, I'll miss morning marathons on The Beast where me and my dad were the only ones on the entire train, but rides later in the day are better after the track has warmed up and more people are on the trains. I'll make more trips in the evenings to get those nice night rides this year.

Everything is an improvement. The smoothness of The Beast and the new food options are the biggest for me. I'll be riding The Beast even more and I'll be eating in the park once in a while.

2003-2004 was my first ride. I don't remember a whole lot. I rode The Racer for the first time the year before so I decided to try The Beast the year after (I wasn't ready for The Vortex yet). I remember the first hill, and the final helix. I remember plummeting into the tunnel after the second lift then getting thrown to the side which for me is still the best moment on any coaster.

2013 - Begin the destruction of Son of Beast, remove the Crypt, Add bathrooms to X-Base, Touch up Action Zone (Remove water tower, fix blacktop, add some landscaping and new signs to make the area look fresh)
2014 - Complete removal of Son of Beast/the re-vamping of Action Zone. Add a modern flat ride in Action Zone. Paint The Racer.
2015 - Add a family friendly attraction to Rivertown in place of the Crypt. Old-style themed ride.
2016 - Modern roller coaster in Son of Beast's place. Whatever trend the coaster world seems to be following at the time.
2017 - Add a modern flat ride plus a restaurant to X-base/expand in that general direction
2018 - General park improvements/painting whatever needs painted
2019 - Add something of interest to Oktoberfest/Oktoberfest revival/re-theme
2020 - Remove Vortex assuming it has reached its lifespan.
2021 - Replace Vortex with a modern B&M coaster with inversions.

I say we bring back the King Cobra track with the trains and use Son of Beast's station and supports as part of the construction. Then we move the building from the Crypt over and use that as the main entrance.
We can do it guys!
(I hope it doesn't sink after all the work we put into it.)

Heck, I thought the Voyage was running pretty rough in 2006. If it's running better than it was new then I'll have to get down to Santa Clause and give it a try! I imagine I'll take a couple trips around on the Raven while at it.

Kings Island is a local park. Unlike a place like Florida where you have 5-6 parks within an hour drive, Kings Island is really the local market. It's a product of Cincinnati where people from nearby can come and spend a day and be back home for dinner. You can take a girl from school, you can go with your parents, you can go with friends, or you can go by yourself. Unlike destination parks, there's less stress.
When I'm at one of the big destination parks, I feel like I'm on vacation. When I'm at Kings Island, I feel like I'm at home.

In my opinion, best case scenario is that the Crypt gets removed and replaced with a small ride that suites the area. Rivertown has one attraction towering over the midway, I don't think another one is necessary. The Crypt didn't match the area. Hopefully whatever gets placed there won't result in any trees getting removed either. A Screamin' Swing would be neat if the color scheme wasn't extremely eye jarring. However, I like a lot of people, see an empty building sitting there for years to come.
Top of my wanted list though: Don't abuse Rivertown anymore. It's my favorite area of any amusement park.

The buffet in Rivertown is the best value by far. Skyline is the classic choice, but as expensive as it is in the park compared to outside the park you might as well eat it outside the park. Outer Hanks was good with the seafood. Haven't tried the tacos yet. haha

If I don't ride The Beast at least once then it's a wasted trip in my opinion. I also make a point to ride The Racer at least once.

I don't calories, I don't do my best to exercise regularly, but I keep in mind what I eat. I don't make it a point to finish every single portion I ever eat. A small soda here is the equivalent to a medium or large in Europe. It's larger portions.
To me seats on coasters don't have much to do with weight as body proportions. I was with a group where the person who weighed most could ride, while a person who weighed less actually couldn't. Ride seats are designed to accommodate the majority of people based on body proportions, but no matter how much you try you will never be able to accommodate everyone.

Invertigo for ERT? Makes a lot of sense considering it's such a low capacity ride. Maybe now our days will start with Diamondback, then instead of traveling counter-clockwise towards Invertago, we cut across the park and START with Invertago and work clockwise towards The Beast.

Rode it this morning. The turn right before the brake shed was re-tracked, you can tell by the lighter color of wood. This part was extremely rough last year, and now it's smooth as silk. When you're on the second lift, look down to your right, you can see a fresh stack of wood that seems to be left over.
The turn before the second lift was done last offseason. Two offseasons spent re-tracking The Beast has really paid off.

This was my first trip to Kings Island in a very long time. Though we had passes last year, starting at around August we stopped visiting due to other hobbies getting in the way of our Saturdays and Sundays, to the point that Kings Island became a second thought.
However, we renewed our passes this year, and I plan on making a ton of visits this year to make up for the lack of visits last year. We avoided opening day, and took our first trip today. I decided against taking pictures, since getting my pass and riding rides was at the time of my mind.
First off, it was an all around good day, but you can tell that there's still some things that need worked out. Staff wasn't exactly 100 percent efficient at releasing trains, and many rides were down before 1 o'clock when we left. The Beast wasn't even opened for ERT, which was disappointing. I'll say that the biggest downer of the day was the lack of the Gold Pass parking lot. I felt a lot more secure parking in the Gold Pass lot than out in the rest of the lot, and it felt a lot more exclusive in the morning as part of the whole deal. It just seemed that they tried to improve the way the parking lot was set up, but they didn't do a good job. Leaving was a tad bit confusing as well.
That's where the negativity about the day ends. I like how much more open the park feels now. I like how they got rid of the metal detectors, and really opened up the entrance plaza in the morning. Getting there, I was happy to see that we now have a full hour of ERT every morning instead of just on Saturdays.
Since Beast was down all ERT, I got 3 rides on Diamondback to wake me up from my coaster withdraw. The airtime was good, it was fast, but not quite as intense as I like. Overall, this is still a good coaster and for it's 4th(??) year open I'm glad to see that it's still the jewel steel coaster of the lineup.
After the park opened, The Beast opened soon after. Yes, they have improved it some more. There's new scenery by the entrance, and there has been some re-tracking. The righthand turn before the brake shed has been re-tracked, which is amazing because this part was extremely bumpy last year. From last offseason's improvements and this offseason's improvements, The Beast is a much smoother ride. I will no longer make it a point to sit in the middle seat of the car, and I will make it a point to ride this ride at night a lot more.
After this we went over to Vortex to get a spin on this. The Travel Channel was shooting an episode for a TV show, and recorded the train as we pulled into the station, the camera man got a close up of me giving thumbs up and winking at the camera for a good 5-7 seconds. Maybe I'll be on TV? I don't know.
Walking down the Coney Mall, I got my mandatory spin on The Racers, and ended the day with a ride on the newly painted Invertago, which looks absolutely spectacular. Overall, a good day and a good start to the season. I look forward to many more rides on the newly smoothed out Beast this year, and I look forward to more trips by myself and friends now that I am a licensed driver.
To my mind, Kings Island needs to stress Soak City and Planet Snoopy in their advertisements this year. I would like to see a lot of commercials trying to bring families back to the park, and a water park is exactly what does it.

Buy your tickets online, then bring 100 bucks to spend in the park. If you plan on staying all day, buying a park cup with cheap refills may be worth it. I wouldn't eat in the park, there's plenty of fast food options near by. Park snacks are one thing, park meals are another. If you insist on eating in the park, then the buffet in Rivertown is your best bet price wise.
Pack the cooler heavy, keep a note coming in where all the fast food restaurants are, and don't plan on eating too much in the park. Those are your best bets for saving money.

To me Action Zone was never really a good area in itself. The water tower was never used nor was there a good stunt show. I mean, in my brutally honest opinion, the place is a concrete jungle. A re-theme would be nice, and touching the place up would be awesome. Sure, it is a nostalgic look at the Paramount era, but I'd rather spend my time sitting under some trees next to the train in Rivertown than sitting on concrete in Action Zone.
Touching up paint, fixing up the general area, and adding some landscaping would be awesome. Needless to say, Son of Beast needs to be removed. It's beyond repair at this point.
