  1. I'm kinda mixed on this. I know a lot of 16 year olds that are by far more mature than their 18 year old counter parts. I've also seen my fair share of 16 year olds horsing around. I belive that anyone at the age of 16 can operate a coaster if they are given the strict training properly and everything for the training is recorded and signed off like it's supposed to be and logged properly and all refresher training is done on time and properly. Aslo, all the work done by the op (no matter the age) should be watched over by the sups and any and all infractions be logged and corrected. If someone is constently screwing up or missing things or just can't do it, then move them to another department. When it comes to safetly you can't fool around. The guests should take it upon themselves to be the park's eyes and ears. If you guys see something that is going on that bothers you (like an op knowing you have a camera and letting you take it on the ride with you) then you should get their names and note the time (incase you can't tell someone right away) so you can let GR know and possible talk with a rides manger before you leave the park. The sups and managers can't see everything, so we need your help to keep you safe. Also, most of the accidents that happen on rides are usually the fault of the guest. People are dumb and want more of a thrill and try to wigle their way out of the restraints or knowing unbuckle themselves while the ride is operating. Some other dumb things people do is throw things off the rides, spit on the rides, carry on cameras or other things that might fall off (or out of pockets). Guests need to be punished for such activities and at PKI they can be kicked out of the park, banned from the park, season passes revokted and even arrested all depending on the infraction. Stupidity (I didn't know you couldn't do that!) isn't an excuse.
  2. Odds are they will play it again. Anyway, I'm not aware of the actor that plays Grissom ever visiting the park. I could be wrong, however. I'm not there everyday...
  3. Cheap plug or not, it doesn't matter. I still think it's pretty cool. Besides, they mentioned Six Flags as well. Anyway, it's still cool! I wonder if there will be more of those candid mentions of The Beast in the shows since it is The Beast's 25th this year.
  4. How cool is that! They talked about The Beast and the SOB on CSI!!! Alright!
  5. Celebrities are pretty cool, especailly when they are at the park and I get to meet them and hang out with them. I know of the ones that have already been mentioned. The only ones not mentioned thus far are the Spirit Song festival singers. A lot of the Christian band members like to ride the rides. Jessican and Nick were great last year, they are really nice people. It was a lot of fun walking around the park with them. There might be a picture of all of us somewhere in the forums... if not I can always post it again.
  6. Well, this is kinda off topic, but I found a great pic of a smurf character A Smurfy Picture I'm not sure who the people are, but the character does look like the same ones we had at the park, although I don't think the picture was taken there.
  7. Smurfs would be so cool to see again! I don't think any of the kids now a days know what a smurf is, let alone remember Hans or Sabastien (remember the two princes? Know one else seems to remember them but me...).
  8. Days of Thunder would be sweet! Of course, I would like nothing better than Star Trek... but one can only hope for a Borg 4D flyer for the new coaster next year...
  9. Michael W. Smith (whoever that is) is also confirmed to be preforming this year. Check out his site: http://www.michaelwsmith.com/tour/index.php for the tour info. He's coming on 8/14.
  10. I'm kinda mixed with this... I can see where he is coming from and I think it would be a great idea to have ride ops be 18+. However... Since most kids 18+ don't work during the summer in amusement parks, it would be hard to try and staff all the rides with 18+ ride ops. Also, I know a lot of 16 year olds more mature than some 18 year olds and would trust them operating a ride more than the 18 years old. It all boils down to the employee, their training and their attitude. I'm sure if someone were to look at the stats, most of the injuries suffered to the employees were probably a result of something a guest did to begin with.
  11. Every now and then security will go through the exits and around the ques (like TR:TRs and even Deliriums, and any others that they can, to try and catch smokers. Since we aren't allowed in the ques it can be hard to yell at someone in the middle of the line to stop smoking. If I see people smoking I ask them to stop if I can, otherwise I just tell the ride opps to run their announcment or get on the speakers themselves. If that doesn't work, then I pull them off the ride when they get to the station. Smokers are annoying for other reasons too... their cigs start mulch and trash can fires. Most people do put them out and make sure they are out, but others don't care and just throw them in the garbage can or in the mulch. How annoying is that! If I'm in the park as a guest and someone is smoking in line, I ask them to put it out... if that doesn't work I just keep nagging, about every minute remind them of the rule. I can also get really annoying and talk really loud so everyone else knows. If that doesn't do the trick I pull out my cell phone and call communications and have them send someone out in uniform. That usually does the trick! The other thing that annoys me is people running around with their shirts on. Yeah, it's hot, but still! Shoes shirts and shorts are required in the park at all times. I had to ask a guy three times today to put on his shirt. He was getting ticked, but I flat out said he's putting it on or I would escourt him out of the park. That did the trick. Oh well... people are bull headed. We have to deal with it.
  12. There is a big dumpster on the other side of the fence of Beastie out of sight of the public. That's probably where it comes from. Ecology has done a great job this year, big improvments on everything from attitude to wardrobe! Also, for all employees, even if your off the clock, walking around as a guest even, take some time out to grab that napkin on the ground, or to pick up a piece of trash instead of stepping on it. Of course, if it just looks disgusting, I can see you passing it by. But we can all help out! Ecology is only so big for a park that is much, much bigger. Good luck with the chearleaders this year. Last year there had to have been more than two feet of trash in Timberwolf and maybe only one full trashcan. Those people are dirty!
  13. I guess we could start a whole new thread on if your a great employee... Anytime a park employee makes your day, let GR know about. We all wear name badges, and I'm sure you can tell if someone is working in games, or merch, or food or entertainment, whatever. You can always ask for a last name. A lot of employees don't get a lot of recognition, even from sups, although they are getting better at it. I haven't heard a complaint about a sup yet from an employee this year. Most people are quick to complain, but slow to thank.
  14. The park has over 700 acres of land, and we have enough space left that we can double the size of the theme park without a problem.
  15. Grad Nights are the worst nights to work! New employees beware... I'm glad that we don't have the park open as long as it used to be.
  16. Hey all! I'm sorry to hear that people didn't really have a good day at PKI on Sunday. I know that I froze to death on Sunday and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I honeslty think some people are just crazy for wanting to go 60+ mph on a ride when the wind chill is already 26 degrees! Hopefully no one ended up sick. I can understand the frustrations with the indoor rides like FoF and TR:TR on a day like Sunday. Just for the fact that they are indoor and running is nice because you can get out of the cold and enjoy something. I know poor TR has had it's problems, but we are working on it. It is still one of the most unique rides built, and the technology behind it is still new. I know that the effects are pretty cool when they are all up and running and it can take away from the ride a little when they aren't all working. I would have been happy just being out of the cold! I just hope you guys come back and visit us again and understand that the park can have bad days. Saturday the power browned out for a split second and stuck a lot of people on rides. At least that didn't happen on Sunday, but the fact that it was so cold did close rides and eventually the park closed early. I can see how people can be upset about that because it was advertised as being open till 8 and people probably showed up at 5 and we had to turn them away. The park needs to make money to stay open, and the decision to close is not easy to make. Since all of the guests invited that day were season pass holders, at least they could come back later in the season. I know someone mentioned that it was this cold in 2002 for something, but the only thing I can think of for that is that it was warmer during the day and the ride could operate. As I understand it, if it is warm enough to operate the ride and the ride has been running for a few hours, if the temperature dips a little, it can still work b/c the ride itself is warm from running. Sparky might be able to elaborate on that. Well, take care all and hopefully we will see you again later in the season. The crews will be broken in and eveyone will be having more fun (hopefully) because it won't be so d*mn cold! Of course, it might be worse when it's a hundred degrees, but at least you can ride a ride and cool down!
  17. I feel sorry for you if you think those lines were long. I've known them to be longer. The lines were actually short, and considering a normal Saturday has more than double the attendance we had on Saturday the lines are much longer.
  18. Something in West Chester did get hit and that is what caused the power problem. I'm not sure if it was a brown out or an actual power failure for a fraction of a second, but we were lucky. Some places in Mason were out for a few minutes, other places west of West Chester were out for about an hour from what I understand. It might have been something more than a pole that got hit. Who knows? It was a great learning experience for everyone though! Nice timing too!
  19. Did anyone else see Jeff Siebert? The poor guy couldn't talk! Hope he gets better!
  20. Shout out to all the SoB crew! You guys were the last thing in the park to shut down on the 3rd. I had to stand and wait a long, long time for all those crazy riders to get off! Overall, it was a blast! There were a lot of line jumpers and a few smokers in the lines. Typical things. The power outage was crazy... it only blinked off for a split second, but it was enough to interupt power to everything in the park. We found out that something in West Chester got hit or something and that effected power everywhere... even as far as Forest Fair Mall. Some of the outages lasted a few hours from what I understand. Thanks for all those who were really cool about it! It only takes a few hot heads to tick people off, so it was something that was a real learning experience for everyone.
  21. So, Kings Island is proposing (officially) that they build a new $60 million indoor water resort conference center and hotel. It will be built by Wisconsin-based Great Lakes Companies and would be a Great Wolf Lodge Family Resort themed similar to Great Bear Lodge in Sandusky. The park will own the land it is built on (the camp ground, remember my poll about getting rid of it?), and it sounds like the park would take care of staffing and managment. It's a little early to tell. Thoughts? The article was found on the front page of the Pulse Journal today.
  22. I get to work that day training new officers! I'm sure I'll some of you around.
  23. Weird Al is coming back! Aug 22 Cincinnati, OH Paramount's King's Island Confirmed from Werid Al's website.
  24. Yes, all new peps ask the same question. I think the forums need to come with a rule book and a guide for all the newbes.
  25. Britney isn't allowed back. It doesn't matter me, I just like a good concert!
