  1. You can see my copy of the 1979 brochure here: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/thumbnails.php?album=7 and my 1974 brochure (my first visit to Kings Island) here: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/thumbnails.php?album=8 Mike B.
  2. Here are scans of brochures from my family collection: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/thumbnails.php?album=8 http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/thumbnails.php?album=7 This August will mark 39 years since my first Kings Island visit. Mike B.
  3. I rode FOF the first year it opened when it had the over-the-shoulder restraints with the padding that was at ear level. My experience in one word: Painful. My ears felt like they had been boxed in. They had signs that recommended anyone wearing earrings should remove them. After that I rarely rode it until I found out during one off season that they had replaced the old restraints with the lap restraints they now have. Now it doesn't seem as bad although one ride per visit is usually enough for me.
  4. There's already something new: a price increase on season pass renewals. Mike B.
  5. Anyone remember the Taft Broadcasting Co. ownership days? Mike B.
  6. Isn't that Route 63? Once you get east of I-75, it's a rollercoaster in itself. My family used to stay at the motel that was right off the I-75 - Route 63 exit. It was an 8 Days Inn (yes the name used to have an 8 in it) back in the 1970's. This was before the one on New Garver Road, which itself didn't exist back then. The restaurant next to it was a Dutch Pantry. Mike B.
  7. From where I live in SE Michigan, about 3 1/2 hours. Back in the 1970's when the national 55mph speed limit was implemented and Ohio had a lot of state troopers staking out I-75, it was more like 5 hours. Mike B.
  8. The Giant Slide, The Enchanted Voyage, The Rotor, Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal, The King Cobra, The Bayern Curve, The Wheel of Fortune, The Ohio Overland Auto Livery, Les Taxis, Winsome Witch's Cauldron, Der Spinnen Keggers, The Bavarian Beetle, The Shawnee Landing and The Sky Ride. Mike B.
  9. This just about sums it up for me at KI, except that I'm not a big fan of Firehawk, and Flight Deck isn't that much of a problem. As an older rider (I posted previously that August 25th marked my first KI visit 38 years ago), my body just can't tolerate the rough rides like it could before. My highest coaster total was back in 1997 on a drizzly day when my cousin and I rode the KI coasters a total of 40 times. Luckily the motel that we stayed at had a whirlpool for our use. We're going to be at KI on Labor Day but it looks like the weather forecast is going to be a big factor in ride time. Mike B.

  12. Ian also says this: "God help us; we're in the hands of engineers". Mike B.
  13. I've got the perfect name for it: Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal Instead of running at ground level they can build it so that it runs up in the air around the trees. Mike B.
  14. Maybe the guy was demonstrating the new proposed procedure to be carried out on all line jumpers. Mike B.
  15. Anyone remember the encyclopedia booth or the Kayak swimming pool display? Mike B.
  16. Thanks for rekindling some fond memories. My very first visit to Kings Island was on August 25, 1974. Mike B.
  17. Here's the link to the one I have: http://www.KICentral...ils.php?album=8 This coming August will mark 38 years since my first visit. Check out the back cover for the name of the section and row that we parked our car at, "Shag Rug #4". Mike B.
  18. Could 30 across be the name of the Mason Council Member that wanted this who was also chairman of the city's finance commitee? Mike B.
  19. I've been to most of them in the Mason area and so far for me the best was where my group stayed this year, the Hyatt. It was a little pricey, but splitting the cost with my brother and sister made it very reasonable. We hadn't been on a vacation together in over 20 years. The room had two double beds, a pull-out couch, a 42" flat screen TV, and a fridge. The free breakfast was pretty good too. I also in the past have stayed at the Best Western when it was a Ramada, and it was okay. If you don't mind driving the extra distance, the Franklin/Middletown area has a couple of good places to stay as well. Back in 1974, we stayed at the Days Inn (called 8 Days Inn back then) in Monroe. It's now a Howard Johnson's. Mike B.
  20. Does anyone know if KI is planning anything extra for July 4th? Their park calendar shows just the regular Sunday hours of 10am-10pm. Mike B.
  21. Back about 15-20 years ago during my visit to KI my group decided to leave early because of an approaching storm. The car I owned at the time was a 1987 Plymouth Horizon, which had an ignition key that would only fit in one way. In my haste to leave, I put the key in the ignition the wrong way, tried to turn it, and broke it off. I flagged down a tram operator who said they would send someone out to assist me. 15 minutes later a van with the words "Lebanon Lock & Key" drives by but keeps going. My cousin who was with me at the time jumped on top of a trash can and was able to wave him down. It turned out that he wasn't sent by anyone from KI, but was cruising the lot looking for people who had locked their keys in their cars. 10 minutes later and $40 poorer we were on our way (My AAA membership trip-interruption insurance reimbursed me for the $40). Thank goodness I had my spare key in my wallet.
  22. On my second ride of BLSC on opening day none of the FX worked during the mid-ride stop. We just sat there in silence for a few seconds until the cars took off to complete the run. I know it was just a glitch, but what started out as a great must-do ride a few years ago has turned into something I now ride if the line isn't too long. Mike B.
  23. Must have used a GPS on that one. I just picked one up from AAA. It uses much older technology, which means you have to unfold it. Mike B.
  24. Thanks for the heads-up. Coming from Michigan, I-75 south to 63 east to 741 south is normally the way I go. You can find out more on Ohio road construction here: http://www.buckeyetraffic.org/ Mike B.
  25. So far the lowest prices that I have found are here: http://www.ohioslargestplayground.com/places-to-play/newsletter/april-2010/kings-island-tickets/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_april Mike B.
