Anyone know how to find a season pass number?  My parents bought passes for my kids. I don’t have the pass number for one of them.  He just turned three so this would be his first year with a pass (which explains why I don’t know it).

I’d like to make a reservation for us but can’t because of this.  So an email address would be awesome.

The pass number is either the long numeric code (00000000000000000000000) or the short alphanumeric code (ABC1XYZ) listed on the back of the pass or in the mobile app. Either of these will work.

If the number has worn off, you can use a barcode scanning app to scan your barcode or QR code to get the number.

  2. ^ You should have received e-mails from Don Helbig at the park with details about the rescheduled event on July 1. Be sure to check your spam folder.

If you didn't get it, you should contact the park to get the information and make sure you're on the list to go.

  3. ^ The closest I've come to this is 9am-12am at Cedar Point, followed by 9:30am-12am at Kings Island the next morning. You get about 4 hours of sleep in a best case scenario, so it's not really something I would recommend.

Doing all the coasters at both parks on a 10:00am to 10:00pm day would be a really tall order. You would need light attendance and perfect Intamin luck at Cedar Point, which would probably need to be the first park of the day to take advantage of lighter morning crowds. If I had platinum season Fast Lane Plus, I might try it.

  4. Facemasks are only part of the strategy, but they are important in situations where ideal social distancing is not practical. Even with all the precautions that Cedar Fair is taking, places that attract large crowds present an enhanced risk that requires a layered safety approach. Masks are a proven strategy for reducing transmission in public spaces.

It shouldn't be controversial to wear a mask in situations where health officials recommend doing so, but that's the world we're in today.

  5. The test reservation page they had online earlier was taken offline. A link to that page was not officially communicated by the park; people evidently found it by guessing the URL while they had it online for a test.

KI has not announced a date or time for reservations going live. When it happens, or when we learn of an official date, we'll do our best to get it communicated on KIC right away.

When reservations are live, the link to the registration page should be displayed prominently in the mobile app, on the KI website, and in the KI online store.

Well that ruined my day, but good to know I'm likely screwed now instead of showing up after a 6 hour drive and finding out the reservation was bogus. darn, I was so excited.

Well, I can tell them it worked.  It even showed up on my app.  Hopefully they will reset or honor it.

You might want to contact the park to be safe, to be sure that the reservation you placed early is either honored or reset before things go live.

  7. I removed the link to the registration page, as they haven't gone live yet. They appear to be testing the system.

Those who attempt to place an order before it goes live risk having their reservation cancelled and not getting into their park on their preferred day.

I am truly sorry for all that is going on right now and what I have started. I should have never posted that picture. Sorry for the people I ruined it for also. I might as well take a break from KICentral for awhile. Goodbye for now

The social media photo and ensuing debate has been cleaned up from this thread.

How many cases are due to the increase in testing? The media always leaves that part out. All they want to do is spread fear. Most places hospital admissions due to covid are also down but again some graphs and the media would have you believe otherwise.

Paradoxically, more testing tends to lower the number of cases over time, as people identified early can be isolated while they're contagious. More interesting than the raw number of new cases is the percentage of tests that come back positive. Luckily, in Ohio, this percentage is relatively low (3.7%) and is decreasing thanks in large part to masks and social distancing. The annoying thing is that we have to keep mitigation tactics in place until we contain the pandemic.

For checking the numbers by state, I like the dashboard on covidexitstrategy.org. It includes both data on the raw number of cases as well as the positive test rate.

  10. Great suggestions so far! We'll try to get at least some of them implemented.

I appreciate the effort, however navigating through that many albums is kind of ridiculous.

Is there away to sort the albums, similar to the previous gallery?

Not a fan of not being able to see all the image thumbnails per album.

You can already use the search box with terms like Action Zone, Coaster, Defunct, 1972, or Construction. The next iteration of the photos page will have taxonomy tools to help with discovering galleries and photos.

The challenge with the previous system of categorization was that many albums logically belong in several places, Firehawk Construction for instance. Any suggestions for how to improve the sort, search and discovery features are most welcome.

A thumbnails view is a great idea. We'll look into adding one, probably with a button to switch back and forth.

I appreciate the effort. Is there a way to see dates like how it was formatted previously? For instance, having all the Banshee construction photos on one page is wonderful, but is there a way to see the date each photo is from? Thank you for adding so many great photos and adding a search feature as well!

The titles, captions and dates were all moved over to the new system. We're not currently showing the upload date, but we can add that. Right now, you can see the upload dates by looking at the picture URL (right click->view background image).

With searching though, is there a way to possibly crowdsource some search terms to make it more expansive? For example, "Shake" brings up Shake, Rattle & Roll, but it doesn't include some of the older historic pictures of the ride I've seen in the gallery (like this one). Likewise, Troika brings up that aforementioned photo's gallery, but none of the newer shots. Other search terms could include the contributor's names and years. And being able to search by manufacturer is really cool, but the list seems incomplete - "Von Roll" isn't showing Sky Ride, for example.

Right now, the search box only looks through data on galleries, not in individual pictures. This will be fixed soon so that searching for an individual contributor's name or an individual picture's title brings up the right results.

Crowdsourcing search terms is a great idea. We control the code for the new gallery, so we can add features as they are needed.

So happy to see the return of the gallery and can only imagine the work to bring ALL those photos to the new one. Especially now linked to the main menu.

Is it possible to group galleries of the same nature to an album like the old one? Right now it is very scattered. I'd also like to see view counts and the return of comments. As for the other notes I had Topgun1993, TombraiderTy and KIghostguy touched upon great notes

You can still see the old photo gallery at https://kicentral.com/photosold/ , which will be preserved for the foreseeable future. Links to the old gallery (eg. https://kicentral.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=41&pid=146#top_display_media) should be redirected automatically to the same place in the new gallery with a much cleaner URL.

Allowing comments and/or photo description editing for people logged into the forums is definitely something we can do if there is demand for it.

That disparity is why I'm more worried about spreading the virus than about personally being in that 19% share of the hospitalized patients. I probably wouldn't die, but people that caught it because of me might. One could argue that younger people present the biggest threat with this virus, as they are more likely to be asymptomatic super spreaders.

That's not to discount the physical risk to younger patients who get sick. Permanent lung damage is no joke, and it's a real danger with this virus.

  12. Just a reminder to keep this thread focused on the virus and its impact on the amusement park industry; political debate doesn't belong on the boards.

This is an over 50 disease.

I understand your point, but that particular statement is false. In Ohio, 19% of the hospitalizations have been people under 50. Older adults and those with immune conditions should certainly be taking extra precautions as the group most likely to suffer fatalities, but if we don't contain the virus, it's an everyone problem on an unprecedented scale.

Would a person make more in unemployment or at Kings Island?

The stimulus bill that passed the Senate early this morning includes a $600/week bonus on top of state unemployment through July 31. For those currently unemployed, this would be quite a bit more than most park jobs would pay on a weekly basis. Here's a helpful FAQ: https://www.nytimes.com/article/coronavirus-stimulus-package-questions-answers.html

This bill isn't law yet; it still awaits approval by the House and a signature from the president.

  14. Here is a newly created website that simulates the impact of various control measures on the pandemic: https://covidactnow.org/

    Screenshot_20200322-205419.png

According to Secretary of the Treasury Mnuchin, lockdown measures are likely to last 10 to 12 weeks. That would put us in early to mid June.

If antiviral drugs are successful in the coming weeks and months, it's possible we could be looking at a slightly better situation. Current simulations and measures are on the assumption that no pharmaceutical intervention is available.

  15. For those concerned with contaminated surfaces on take-out food, a good strategy is to transfer your food to clean dishes, put those dishes in the oven, throw the original packaging away, and wash your hands.

Grocery stores, restaurants and other essential businesses are directed to maintain 6' distances, use good hand-washing and sanitation practices, screen employees' temperatures before they come to work, etc.

Tell me how unemployment works for a 2 week stay at home period. Let me know how well it works for you and how soon it starts.

Ohio has simplified the process of applying for unemployment and eliminated the usual waiting period. Those whose jobs have been eliminated/suspended and who qualify should apply ASAP.

Those who continue working essential jobs are literal heroes.
