  1. KI is offering $25 tickets (+$5 fee per order) today only, valid Friday and Sunday. This would seem to indicate that they aren't expecting huge crowds on those days.

But yes, Saturday will be packed - the weather will be nice, it's the last weekend, and Sunday is forecast to be quite cold.

  2. 8. New after-dark light show for summer nights

Presumably this will require the park to be open then, making this good news for people who want night coaster rides and aren't able to come to HoliWood Nights or in the fall.

    5. Pilgrims Plunge "moving" to Splashin' Safari with a new name: Giraffica

As-is, it's a rather "dry" ride, especially for a water park. Perhaps they'll look East add some spitting giraffes after the flume.

Then there's that long walk connecting Giraffica+RhinoBlaster+future expansion to the rest of Splashin' Safari. This is a park that pays attention to details, so I'm sure we'll see some changes along that route now that it's "in" the water park. (Misters, shade, and seating?)

  3. Finally, it came time to cap off my annual trip to the Point by doing my tradition of riding Sky Ride back to the area near the park entrance and riding the Midway Carousel. According to the picture above (taken while I was next in line) I rode Sky Ride in a purple car--Car #32.

I took a few pics of the park from above, including the one right above this sentence.

For future reference, using cameras on Sky Ride isn't allowed. The only ride this is allowed on at CP is CP&LE RR. (And formerly Space Spiral.)

  4. And Guest Services is able to process renewals? I'll keep that in mind as it will likely be late in the day when I do the renewal.

They're definitely able to. If the ticket windows are open and Guest Services is crowded, they might direct you there instead. Keep in mind that when I renewed, neither the Fast Lane booth nor ticket windows were operating.

Note how it says regular price. Not to be combined with discounts. If I were to infer using previous knowledge, I would assume the FUN Perks voucher is uncompatible with the discount occurring as we speak (6 easy payments of $13.33!)

The easy-pay isn't a discount. It is online-only, however, so it isn't compatible with the Fun Perks voucher.

  5. is someone really collecting royalties on classical music?

    Yes.

The music itself is out of copyright, but modern performances are certainly not. Symphony performances are often complex, as royalties may be due to each performing member. Arrangements of classical pieces for modern orchestras are also protected by copyright.

Getting copyright clearances on a classical performance usually isn't an easy task.

  6. ^ You can only use the music if the copyright owner(s) have given permission to Google. In this case, ads will be placed on your video with the commission going to the music studio.

Some music studios don't have such an agreement for YouTube videos. In these cases, the soundtrack and/or the entire video is pulled.

  7. ^^ I'm not entirely sure that the $20 coupon works on platinum passes; I've heard that these coupons are for gold passes.

If they process your 2013 pass as a renewal, you won't have to process it next season. When renewing at Guest Services, I got a receipt that included my 2012 pass number:

    oOfix.jpg

(Apparently their point-of-sale system doesn't know about DST; this was at ~12:50am on October 6.)

  8. Did you renew the lost 2012 pass for 2013? (If you renew, the original pass is valid for the next season. There's no voucher and no processing.)

If you lost the pass and weren't planning to replace it, you should have purchased a new 2013 pass instead of renewing. I'm not sure how you would have renewed a lost pass, however, since you need the barcode number from the pass to renew. This number would not have been on your purchase receipt for a new pass.

By the way, you can be admitted with a lost pass without paying a fee by visiting Guest Services. You probably would have to pay a fee to get the pass replaced, unless they make an exception because it was lost inside the park. If you do lose the pass at the park in the future, you should visit Guest Services before you leave.

  9. I felt sorry for anyone who purchased a single admission pass on this day! I never seen KI as busy as Saturday! When the fastlane for DB is reaching its entrance, its busy!

What were standby lines like? Were any major attractions under 60 minutes?

Even passholders who drove a long distance could be upset having spending the entire night in lines. However, not everyone visits expecting to (or even wanting to) do rides/haunts non-stop all evening. Some groups have a lot of fun just being together.

If excessive passholder re-visits are making wait times unacceptably long, perhaps gold/platinum passholders should be limited to one "free" Haunt visit per season. Haunt nights are extremely limited in quantity, after all. (I'm assuming there would be too much passholder resistance to upgrading KI's Haunt into a fully upcharge event.)

  10. Pepsi still doesn't have an answer to Coca-Cola's Freestyle machine, so a Pepsi contract would be a downgrade at least for KI. These things seem to increase soda revenue, so I'd imagine they are a huge selling point.

Revenue aside, there could be some bias away from Pepsi with Cedar Fair's new multi-generational marketing. Historically, Coke's marketing has targeted a wider range of ages than Pepsi's, so perhaps it would tie in better with "Thrills Connect".

It's been years since I've consumed a carbonated beverage, so I really don't care which brand of sugared syrups flow into the parks. (Although the Freestyle machines do make really nice chilled water dispensers.)

  11. This picture came out really well - I love how everyone has a different expression on their face. Thanks again for taking it and posting it!

This is who I think is who, from left to right:

jcgoble, ???, ohiocolts, Malem?, MotherofOcolts, Beastie.

If I got it totally wrong, I apologize. The only one I am certain about is Beastie, for obvious reasons.

    jcgoble3, stashua123, ohiocolts, malem, ohiocolts's mom (nickname TBD), Beastie1980

  12. But once me and others in my party (normally high schoolers) hit all of the coasters 3 or 4 times and all of the flats once or twice, it's not hard to ask "What else?"

    Splashin' Safari.

Does anyone know the actual undeveloped acreage the Kochs own? And where that land is located?

    The county auditor does.

Their auditor's website even has a handy map that lets you click on individual parcels and see who owns each one:

http://spencer.in.wthgis.com/ (Just zoom in and start clicking the parcels you're curious about)

You can also do this for Warren, Erie, and beyond!

  13. Most pizza sauce, everywhere else, does not. LaRosa's bee unique.

Most commercial pizza sauce contains lots of sugar. You'll find ample amounts in pizza from most national chains, most frozen brands, and most ready-to-use sauce preparations.

Real pizza sauce shouldn't contain any sugar.

  14. The first thing I smell is the water from the fountains and/or one of the food locations on IS.

The variety of scents throughout the park would be my "favorite"; I can't pick out any particular one.

My least favorite would have to be the characteristic musty smell of things soaked with water from the water rides, most notably WWC. This can be smelled long after drying off.

  15. I wonder if either of you, or someone else, have ever passed me (or another KICer on I-71).

It's possible, considering we'd likely be timing ourselves to get to the park around the same time. For what it's worth, I was there on the first Sunday of the season, the first Soak City "preview" day, August 24, last Friday for the "KIC Haunt" thing, and one other time I can't think of the date for.

One of those trips, I took Rt 42 (2-line road most of the way) instead of I-71 all the way to Mason, driving through Cedarville, Xenia, and Lebanon. It's about the same distance and much more scenic than I-71, but I don't suppose jcgoble3 would like that route. (I'm going slower on these roads, so extra gas mileage is also a bonus.)

  16. The hourly forecast for Friday says 46 degrees by 1:00am. From my misadventure last Friday, I'd recommend planning for 36. (There's a zero percent chance of rain all night, though, which could be good or bad depending on your perspective.)

Saturday evening should be dry and in the 60s all evening. It will be packed.

  17. Same here. 3.5 hours to CP from my house, but the length isn't the issue for me. It's the two-lane roads and navigating through town after town on Route 4 that get to me.

I hate the route to Cedar Point. It's all farm after farm after farm, which gets boring when it's 3 hours of it!

Farms and 2-lane roads are less boring than interstate, but such routes do take significantly more time.

From Columbus, Route 61 to Route 598 is a much better (i.e. less congested) drive to Sandusky than Route 4. There is a busy railroad crossing without a signal, so do watch out!

    EDIT:

It takes me about one hour and 55 minutes to get from driveway to parking lot. I live on the south side of Indianapolis. I wont get there any faster especially since I got a speeding ticket on 74 near the Lawrenceburg exit. I'm still trying to figure out where that cop was posted up... haha

If large trucks are going the speed limit, you should be under it. This is doubly true if you're currently out-of-state.
