  1. I don't understand how this helps anything. If I start in line with my group of friends we will all have the proper numbers, but at any point during my wait I could just leave and come back and still have the ticket to give to the employee. Tell me if I am missing something.

  2. I'll be curious as to when the ride will be dispatched and control's view of the ride. I anticipate a few cameras through the ride, I'm not sure that back half will be visible but we shall see.

    But yes as some people put it will dispatch at the earliest time safely possible that allows the train to hit the B set proxies about 2/3 or so up the lift by the time the previous train is cleared the end of the safety brake on the brake run (first brake post ride)

    Also I don't expect them to purposely valley a coaster, that's the last thing. However they will practice evacing a coaster, especially on the lift using the evac mechanism at the base of the lift hill and probably other points on the ride (brake run, etc.)

    I thought that we decided we were going to refer to them as the driver. :D:P

  3. I used to work at BGT so I am familiar with this. Going to use Montu as an example.

    Usually at the back of the station on the opposite side from the control panel is a green button. (See Diamondback. The button is located on the left side of the train near row 16.)

    This button MUST be pushed to move the train in the station, unless the coaster is in maintenance mode. In maintenance mode, one person can operate the entire coaster from the control panel.

    During normal operation, the person assigned to the unload rear side of Montu, MUST hold the button down in order for the train to dispatch. The person in the control booth can push the dispatch buttons until his fingers bleed, but the train will not move unless the second button is pressed. Once pressed, the "driver" sees the indicator on his panel, then visually checks the loading area, then presses his buttons. The train advances. The incoming train will not advance into the station unless the rear dispatch button is pressed as well. (Same on Diamodnback.)

    This button at the back of the train works as a thumbs up in addition to the employee actually giving the thumbs up. The "driver"'s panel will light up when this button is pressed.

    Also, there is a mirror on both sides of the train in the front. YOu can see them above the camera in this photo.

    As for the way Kings Island does it, as I worked Diamondback and often was at co-dispatch (that green button near row 16), we were trained to not hit that button until the driver (yes Driver beep beep!!) gave the all clear. I'm pretty sure the button being pressed down on (HTCO can clear this up for me as he worked at Diamondback more recent than I have) doesn't let the panel know the button is pressed. The driver's dispatch buttons and the co-dispatch has to be pressed at the same time or within 3-5 seconds (can't remember) in order to dispatch the train or the ride would set up. It didn't work as the "thumbs up" for the clear....we had to get the clear from the station floor, give the high clear and announce clear so the driver (yes, beep beep :) ) would know we were ready to dispatch to give the all clear.

    At Diamondback, there is a 7 second time out, and the panel does have an idicator light as to when the co-dispatch button is pressed. And you are correcet, you're supposed to wait to hit the button until everyone including the driver has given the clear.

    Why btw is it called a driver...you're not driving anything..you push buttons on a control panel..makes no sense

    I concur, but it is just something that I have picked up over the season, that I worked there.

  5. On prior B&M coasters I've worked, order of clears goes from top of load closest to drop to rear of load. Same on the other side. When rear load gave clear, that meant all load side was clear. Rear of unload makes sure all of unloads give clear. Once rear op of unload sees last unload clear and last rear load clear, he gives high clear. Controls gives all clear, op in rear gives dispatch enable, train leaves station.

    Don't need mirrors or anything, just need to follow order of clears properly

    I believe that in theory this will work, it'll be cool to see. I just have a hard time beliving that they have a higher therotical capacity then Diamondback. It just seems that the restriants are a lot more simple and quick over at Diamondback.

  6. Sorry to get back on topic here, but it looks as if they have done a significant amount of site work, specifically around the area where the entrance of the ride will be. Theres a crane working on the bottom of the lift hill, my guess would be that it is putting the lift chain motor in place. Again, sorry to get back on topic. ;)

    I believe that the lift chain motor is already installed. I could be wrong though it wouldn't be the first nor the last time.

  7. The problem with loose articles is that no matter how much or little the locker costs, you still won't get everyone using them nor will every guest be aware of them. In my experiences with ride operations as an associate, supervisor and manager - a lack of loose article bins does little or nothing to speed up the ride times. Every season, we'd have the same debate about Firehawk - trying to find some kind of alternative or solution to allowing guests the option to store loose articles in the station, no one could ever agree.

    It's tough asking the 16 y.o. kids working for you to have an unpleasant conversation telling guests "you can't bring your bags past this point," day in and day out. Not to mention, if your associates are distracted by a height check or guest question, guests with bags can and will slip by.

    I completely agree, if there is going to be a policy then it has to be enforced 100%. I have sat in front of Firehawk telling people they can't bring their stuff and the moment you are trying to explain it to one group of guests another flies right past you. Then the issue becomes chase them down and let the next group of 5 get though or let them go and hope for the best.

    It may be tough on staffing but I don't think two greeters is such a bad idea.

  8. Well, first you have to prove that you are worthy so, you must be able to run from Diamondback to Firehawk in less than 30 seconds. Then, it is nescarry to wait in a hot queue line for 2 hours straight and last but not least pay the nominal $1,000 fee. :D

    Or you could do it on line for like 90 bucks.

  9. First, the station is two floors and that picture is only showing the bottom floor, because the second is not yet built, so it is impossible to say there will not be any dropping floor. Moreover, is it required to have one? Does Gatekeeper have one? Raptor?
