  1. This is a Jungle Jim's-themed thread bump! For those of you who did not know, one of the former Lion Country Safari monorails moseyed on over to the Eastgate location of Jungle Jim's. It's an inoperative static display in front of the store located between the entrance and exit. It's on a tall bridge and quite hard to miss, really. Although I'm sure they stripped the cars of running gear, the interiors look to be mostly intact. Plus the inside of the cars lights up at night! It's been repainted in a scheme completely different from the KI paint job. The beer and wine display cases at the Fairfield store came from KI, as well as various benches and tables (from one of the International Street restaurants). In addition, the bumper-cars-turned-display-shelves at the Fairfield JJ's are from Coney. This post is in no way, shape or form related to my employment at Jungle Jim's this past summer.
  2. A quick question - where were the water effects on Adventure Express? Must've been before my time...
  3. That is part of what's confusing me - if you looked at that view from the same angle today, wouldn't the Int'l Street shops be visible? I was under the impression that all those buildings were constructed before the park was opened and weren't part of any expansion. It'd be great if KI posted "throwback" pictures every so often. I'm fascinated by that Taft video about the park's construction, wish more stuff like that was around.
  4. "International" something (probably for the International Street Restaurant, if it was open then). Unfortunately I can't decipher what the yellow banner says.
  5. There's a very similar ride that's been at Coney for quite a while. It was removed sometime in the past few years and the cars are (or were, as of a year and a half ago) now used as decoration around the park. One was around the side of the office building near the entrance to the restrooms.
  6. Photo I found a while back - it's not my family, I don't know who is in the picture. Looks like this may be on the other side of the entrance where the restrooms are now, unless my bearings are off. Can anyone guess a date? Based on the paper it's printed on (the Kodak paper with those little pock marks in it), I'm tempted to say early to mid-'70s.
  7. My thoughts exactly. I wonder how activity in that arcade compared to the one further down towards the beginning of the Mall area...or the one adjacent to The Beast.
  8. Hello all. Took my annual KI visit for the P&G event today. A friend took his first ride on Banshee - unfortunately, there appeared to be some sort of issue with the restraint locking mechanism on one of the trains, resulting on two trains full of people being stuck in the loading area for ~15 minutes. He said it was good apart from that. WindSeeker was also closed for much of the afternoon, not sure why. That's about all I have to report for now. Edit: also, what happened to the arcade in Coney Mall adjacent to Monster? Is it gone for good or being renovated?
  9. That's ungood. Still, glad to hear that most everyone is safe.
  10. Probably just an incorrect depiction courtesy of the artist.
  11. When most of your posts are centered around Christmas gifts.
  12. I saw the display while it was under construction, but have not yet seen the complete form. Does anyone know what scale it is - 1/43, 1/64, 1/87...?
  13. I'd STILL rather have Gold Star. The Flavor of Cincinnati. Dixie Chili, all the way. I'd like to see a classic flat brought back, oh the nastalgia in cramped areas of the park. Dixie? Puh-leeze. Empress for me.
  14. The loop closest to the "observation area" on Vortex.
  15. Agree with Congo Falls. It's not a terrible ride, but it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the rides there - especially if Action Zone is going to be re-themed at some point.
  16. The fan was injured by a hot dog that was suing the Kansas City Royals? Not only have hot dogs become sentient, they're suing baseball teams and hurting innocent fans now...
  17. Where exactly are those located? I wasn't aware that any footers, besides the ones viewable from Adventure Express's queue, still existed.
  18. I imagine that would be interesting, but there might be an issue with the cars swinging from side to side.
  19. Anyone know what happened to the props after that ride was removed? Is it anything like that "Spee-Lunkers Cave" ride at Six Flags Over Texas, where some of the items ended up being privately owned?

    The Bat

Top Flight Bat Gun Deck, anyone?
  21. Dang, no luck on the Barn Owl? Seriously though, this excites me. Good going KI!
  22. Ylraelc, M'i gnissim emos tros fo pop erutluc ecnerefer ereh.
  23. That Mystery Machine van was sitting somewhere in Action Zone (I'm tempted to say right behind Stunt Crew Grille) a few years ago, I had wondered where it came from. Thanks for showing the trams, I'm surprised they've kept them this long.
  24. I'm half-expecting KI to avoid all this speculation and rename it the Barn Owl.
