  1. Well I haven't worked up the nerve for Drop Tower or Skyflyer yet, so those are out. I have entertained the idea of getting in line for both of them, and that was enough to freak me out. I'll go with Slingshot, because I do enjoy an occasional ride on it, and it still gives me that nervous feeling. Going up the lift hill on Diamondback, too. I used to get nervous on Firehawk because of the restraints but the more I've ridden it, the more I've gotten over that fear and now really enjoy it.
  2. I saw it when I was 9 or 10 years old...and was convinced I would have nightmares. I'm gonna be the odd person out and admit that I actually kind of enjoyed the movie, in that it was at least entertaining enough for me. I agree it was pretty badly made, though. And after reading the suggestions here, I'm definitely gonna read the book.
  3. I finally got to ride Banshee today for the first time, and all I can say is, what an amazing ride! Got five rides in (would've had more, but thanks to the awful headache I got from Vortex, I couldn't stand to ride much of anything else by that point) including one in the front seat. Honestly, Banshee is probably the only coaster I'd ever wait for the front seat for at KI - it was completely worth it. The inversion that takes you down into the valley is just incredible...and the last one towards the end of the ride (I'm not great at identifying specific elements) is great, too. We rode it 4 times in a row and I found myself smiling through each one. Also, the crew was great today, very quick and personable. Now I just have to squeeze in a night ride.
  4. I think my longest wait was for Tomb Raider: The Ride...1 1/2 hours in the heat. At least I had some friends with me to pass the time. I've had hour long waits on WWC, Diamondback, Son of Beast, and Flight of Fear. Haven't been on Banshee yet, but I'm willing to wait about that long for it the first time (and also for a night ride).
  5. I'm happy to hear all the positive feedback on the ride, and am incredibly jealous that I'll have to wait at least a few weeks for my first ride on her. Loving all the pictures and videos you guys have posted! Sounds like this is going to be a fantastic experience.
  6. Blue ice cream and an ice cold beer in the bier garten...though not at the same time
  7. I'm 5'6" and used to be 200+, and carried most of my weight in my stomach and thighs. I always managed to fit on the rides, although some of them could be tight squeezes - off the top of my head I remember feeling a bit squished in The Racer and Beast trains and on one WindSeeker ride they had to help push the lap bar down tight. I never had issues on Diamondback. No one can guarantee anything until you try them for yourselves but hopefully that information will help give you a better idea of what to expect.
  8. The only coaster I sit in a specific seat on is Vortex (5-1). For wooden coasters I usually try to pick a non-wheel seat. I love to sit towards the back on most coasters if I can, except with Diamondback I prefer the middle.
  9. I think five including here. I don't post much on other boards these days, though, I'm more content to lurk.
  10. I've never done a trip report before, but since yesterday was such a fun and different experience, I've decided to do one. My mom and I always make a point to head out to the park during the last week of daily operation due to the light crowds, and yesterday worked out the best with our schedules. We got to the park just a few minutes after it opened, as we knew rain was a possibility and wanted to get a lot done in case the weather interfered. We started off with a ride on AE, which had no wait. I headed to The Racer next, which also didn't have a wait. After that we made our way along Coney Mall, riding Monster, Dodgem, BLSC, and Shake, Rattle and Roll. I always enjoy getting to ride some of the flats that may get ignored on other trips with friends and family, since on those days, the bigger thrill rides are the main attractions. We decided to move on to Surf Dog and Boo Blasters next, where I got my highest score yet. We took a break for lunch at Skyline, and then headed to the Scrambler and the Carousel. We heard thunder at this point, so we decided to head for FoF. It seemed a little rougher than usual, but since it was the only time I've ridden it this year, I think I tend to forget how jerky it can be. When we came out, rides were starting to shut down except for some of the Coney flats. The Zephyr was still going, so we headed for that. Had a quick, amusing little chat with a young boy in line. It started raining as we were on the ride, and so we parked ourselves at a dry spot under a tree to wait it out. The majority of the rides stayed shut down for what seemed at least two hours, could've been more, could've been less, as I didn't really keep track of the time. We spent some time in the Rivertown arcade and noticed the train was running, so we took a ride on it. As someone who hasn't been on the train in ages, I have to say I really enjoyed the nice little tour they give, and every worker we passed along the way waved (including one very, very enthusiastic WWC worker ). I learned some new things about the park along the way as well. The rain finally let up when we got off, the sun came back out and eventually things started running again. We took a quick trip up the Tower to take in the park, and had a nice chance to peek at the Banshee construction. Since the DB line wasn't bad, that was my next stop. I was able to get three rides in before I met up with her again. We rode Monster again, this time with much better spinning action, and I got a ride in on Firehawk with a group of first-timers, who made for an expletive filled but humorous ride. I thought it would be fun to stop at one of the little photo booths afterwards, and we had a good time taking some ridiculous pictures of ourselves. The rest of our day involved a stop for me on Delirium, a few rides on Invertigo (which I now know my limit is two rides per visit), and closing out the day with Viking Fury. We made sure to enjoy one last blueberry ice cream before we left. Overall, even with the rain delay, it was one of the most best trips I've had to KI in awhile. I actually think being stuck out there with bad weather lets you take part in some things you might not normally do - games, certain rides, etc. - and gives you a more well-rounded park experience. Many trips I've taken out there are spent trying to get as many rides in as possible, so it was nice to not only get a ton of rides in on a variety of attractions, but to do some more under-appreciated things as well. I also want to add that the employees we encountered yesterday were friendly and just awesome in general, making it that much more of a great day.
  11. Nice trip report! I had hoped to make it to The Beach this year, but next year will have to do - glad to hear the park is still a lot of fun. Sorry your day had to end early, though.
  12. Most of my friends at that age were into coasters. Some people won't be fans, but I would think you could find many who like them.
  13. Awesome! Let us know how it goes and have a blast!
  14. In the past I have spent less time on here during the winter months, but I think that will change this year.
  15. I'm afraid of flying (well, crashing I should say), bugs, disease, death, and the dark. The strangest fear I have is giant plants - like when you go into a greenhouse and there's huge tropical plants with leaves bigger than your entire body. Creeps me out for some reason.
  16. Cool videos and you got some great pictures as well. Glad you had a good time!
  17. Glad to read everything went well with your friend, and glad to hear he wants to get more adventurous on his next visit. I built up similarly, lots of rides on AE and Flight Deck before I finally wanted to join my friends on King Cobra and Racer on a school field trip. Stuck to those until a few years later, when my friend finally managed to persuade me to ride Vortex - he didn't force me, just spent a bit talking me into it and telling me that if I didn't like it, he wouldn't bug me about it anymore. From that point on, I've been in love with coasters. It sounds like your friend will work his way up at his own pace, and that seems to be a good fit for him. Let us know how his next trip goes!
  18. What a cool experience - thanks for sharing!
  19. I have Verizon and have never noticed any real issues with it inside the park. There are probably areas where I lose bars or it goes out for a moment, but I can't recall ever having a problem with it. Then again, I don't use my phone much in the park, usually just to check the time, take pictures, or answer any texts that may come in. The last time I visited, I had no trouble texting/calling from the parking lot or outside the gate.
  20. I might be out there for a few hours tomorrow later in the day. No clue what I'll be wearing yet, but if I see someone filming, I'll come say hi! Definitely ride what's been installed since your last time there, and anything you particularly liked from your previous visit(s). Get in the rides you really want first, so you'll have plenty of time to meander around the park for other rides, maybe some of the flats - that would give you a well rounded day. But really, it all comes down to just spending your day the way you want to, so ride what you want and have a blast.
  21. The first time I rode Diamondback, the people in the car ahead of us wanted to get their picture and couldn't, because the two girls in front of them decided to lift up their shirts (they had bikini tops on underneath, but still). It's a shame they ruined a memento for the other guests.
  22. I started small and worked my way up. Eventually you run out of the smaller coasters and have to take that leap onto a bigger one. I think either method is good, but it depends on the person. Since you said he didn't like The Beast, I'd be hesitant about starting him out big. But, at least in my own experience, rides seemed scarier/bigger/more forceful when I was younger than they do now, so what may have scared him back then may not scare him as much now once he goes on it. I started out with AE and Flight Deck and advanced to King Cobra and Racer, before finally being talked into Vortex years later - that's when I learned I really loved coasters. There are pros and cons to either method, just pick which one you think will be more suited to him.
