  1. My first thought on the new entrance was, "somebody's gonna die". Once on the wrong side your options are limited and none are good. That needs more/bigger/better signage.
  2. General comment, and I've done my time in fast food as have many here. 1) go to ringer-runner. One person just does money, one fills orders. Implement secret shoppers, and expect a 3-minute order to completion time and reward solid performance. 2) make it fresh unless you're in a 'rush'! Fries live around 5 minutes if not salted, that's it. They're trash after that. The Boardwalk Fries at KD and CP are outstanding! Fries to order, a 24oz adult frosty beverage, and myriad seasonings to apply - all completed in around 3 minutes. When they're busy they do more than one order, but they're never sitting under a heat lamp. Burgers can be grilled and kept HOT in a pan that starts life as water. Then make them FRESH with a piping hot patty, to order. NEVER NEVER NEVER under a heatlamp for who knows how long.
  3. Never thought about the helix tunnel on this, but those guy-wires in the turns leading to the second lift hill definitely look close enough to do some real damage. I've never witnessed it though.
  4. I liked the themed playlists as well, but alas - I'm no spring chicken. The song I've enjoyed the most, came on as I strolled through the Coney Mall, Tracey Chapman's "Give Me One Reason". I'd never heard the song before that, and it just hooked me.
  5. The 'clan' and I are heading up for the first full week in June, which has always been really good to us. Crowds are thin, weather is usually quite nice (though heed Terp's warning - it can be unpredictable and quite (! 50°) cool - bring a fleece. It's much cheaper to stay off-property, but I hate driving in the crowd so we eat the almost-double price of the hotels. I tried Lighthouse Point and found it lacking for the money - we're booked at Sandcastle again this year. Platinum gets you some deals on munchies, we use the free fries and 2 drinks with the purchase of chili-cheese fries at the Happy Friar. Loved the sausage deal at the brat wagon a couple of years ago but they killed that one. Cooler and a long walk is the best way to save there. Have a great trip - you'll love it!
  6. Or Or the folks in line can simply stop and let those who filled in behind them advance, until their friends catch up.
  7. I like the entertainment but adding live bands back definitely upped their game. That was a *great* move!
  8. And Lo! Garlic Parmesan fries have arrived at Rivertown Potatoworks, with *real* parmesan cheese! They weren't made fresh but I was glad to have them anyway!
  9. So it's truly NO fun to be with a group that has a No Boo necklace, in a maze.
  10. So Friday some of the beer locations were closed, but it wasn't packed. Saturday was a zoo, and everything was open but had insane lines (especially for food). Since you cannot leave the park after 7pm, off-site dining is before the haunt, or after. Still, it was fun to be at the park even if it was crowded.
  11. The queue line for Tombstone Terrortory is insanely long - they walk you across the tracks, out past the $.25 water cannons, through some queues and around the farthest possible bit of asphalt, then you join the walk where you used to from the train. The haunt is the same, but the queue is a 'walk through' too.
  12. ....I guess you also don't understand why people volunteer to work the Kings Island Kicks Cancer (a lot of those folks "harassing" guests to kick a soccer ball are volunteers). .. ...A few members on this forum are probably a salaried employee and essentially "donate" time in excess of 40 hours/week to their respective employer, of which many employers probably are making enough money and could compensate. I guess you don't understand that either?... I understand the difference between salaried employees and non salaried employees. I also understand someone donating their time/money for a cause/charity that helps others in need. Sorry but, I wouldn't classify as Cedar Fair being "in need." I love Ohio State football but you won't catch me painting the end zone just to make sure it's the right shade of red. Dane, myself, and others put hours upon hours into KIC. We deal with more whining than an average preschool teacher. There have been more times than I can count that I've wanted to walk away, but you know what? I take a lot of pleasure in the fact that it makes a lot of people happy. It's totally worth it. I'm sure you understand since you did the same thing as I do years ago. You can't tell me it wasn't worth it. Now this guy can swing by the carousel from time to time knowing that people are commenting on how they're glad that the band organ is back, enjoying the music, watching it work, etc - knowing that it was all because he was willing to dedicate his passion and resources to doing it. That is a feeling that could be associated with no amount of money. And therein lies the answer. It's not that Kings Island is 'needy' - we are, and our children are. The organ harkens back to a simpler, more playful time for me. I remember watching the snare drum buzz, and the not-quite-perfectly-in-tune way the machine played when I was a *lot* younger. I applaud the effort and truly appreciate what's been done for us - the enthusiasts - and I do appreciate Kings Island allowing it to happen!
  13. I'd be up for a flat fee on my pass for unlimited drinks w/o the stupid cup. My souvenir cup (from Coasterstock) isn't activated yet... I too, hate hate HATE carrying the cup! My son opts for water instead of carrying the dang cup.
  14. I used to complain that everything to eat at Kings Island was $8. I never DREAMED that it would double. I'm curious though, what the price of the Philly Cheesesteak at the Snakepit went to. That was a very good, made-to-order cheesesteak done exactly right - on the grill. At around $8, it was only a couple bucks higher than outside establishments. They needed to work on delivery though, ie one person making orders on the grill, one (or two!) getting drinks and taking money, and delivering the finished sandwiches. Watched a 'supervisor' last year bring cups or something, wander behind the counter and strike up a conversation with the folks working the stand instead of HELPING. There was a line, they did NOT need the distraction. Having worked a lot of fast food, that was unforgivable. Have not seen that this year though!
  15. '05 Black Cherry/Pearl HD Vrod.
  16. I'd be ever-so-much happier with lockers if they a) used biometrics ala Universal and Disney rather than a code, and they were free for a short time while you rode the ride ala Universal and Disney but available for longer rental if you wished. I know it's gravy money, but the system is very insecure as we already know, and for all the 'souvenir cups are the best value' statements it's a PIA to carry them and have to deal with them to ride your favorite rides. It just really hurts the park experience for me.
  17. It was running quite recently (about 2 weekends ago) but sounded off. It was a little slow, and had spots where there were syncopated accompaniments but no melody, so something was definitely amiss. It's great to have it operating again though, Hopefully they'll continue to get it back in shape!
  18. I think the real trouble may be that all of the (touchscreen, right?) POS systems *look* the same, but have completely different *interfaces* tailored to the shop, stand, service. Moving from one to the other is not trivial if the products are different. Hopefully things like drinks are all located in the same spot, along with discount 'buttons', etc.- but it wouldn't surprise me if that were not the case. Just glad to have the park open again!
  19. I found the workers to have apparently gotten training on dialogue with customers (and didn't have anything like the bad experience described above). The only challenge was that the 'flavor' of beverage I wanted was out so I just chose another. It was apparent that they had very little experience on the actual registers, which is easily overcome (they had a store mock-up when I worked at Arby's that we had to pass at). Still, I was so thrilled to be back in the park that I found it easy to overlook the cobwebs, and everybody really *was* quite friendly. EVERYBODY asked if I had a pass for the discount - every single one. We had a *great* time.
  20. Sure wish that CF would take a page from Disney and allow a small number of FL passes for every ticket-buyer. The market is still there for the full-monty FL pass, but having to choose 3 really worked great down in Orlando. Then you felt like you could relax and be flexible for the rest of the day. Also loved (and hated) the biometric lockers at Universal. Loved them because they were free if you were short-term for a ride, but could be rented for longer, and they didn't have a code you needed to protect but used your fingerprint for access. Hated them when my son was the 'key' and it wouldn't read his fingerprint. Fortunately I had pictures of him on my dSLR (in the locker)!
  21. The Beast queue used to have an additional block of queue lines (the pad is still visible behind the exitway fence), and indeed the lines - with all queues open - would extend to the Eiffel Tower beside the Taxies. Long lines indeed. Had a Banshee Brew while there, and was pleasantly surprised to see that adult beverage prices have been reduced somewhat (they're only about a buck above Disney/Universal prices now). Curious who brews Banshee Brew? It was tasty, but had a bit of 'pumpkin spice' that I wasn't crazy about.
  22. Almost to opening day. Doing the low-carb thing and lusting after potato works... might have to allow a cheat if they bring CP's Garlic Parmesan fries to KI! (c'mon! you know they're deeeelish!)
  23. We did KD and stayed in the Best Western Guest Quarters right on (or adjacent to) the property. In Building 100 for a very reasonable rate, we could simply walk to the gate faster than the shuttle bus could get us there. Loved the lineup there, and had a great time as it's KI's sister park. Hotel amenities included a microfridge so we had cheap breakfast and refreshments. The attached Uno could whip up a pizza almost faster than you could put your wallet away. The attached Denny's had the predictable Denny's service. We have also done Carowinds and thoroughly enjoyed that trip as well but we stayed a couple of exits up the road at the Hampton Inn. Good luck! You'll have fun no matter what you decide!
