  1. All of the ideas here are great. Interesting that a resounding theme among so many of the posts had to due with the landscaping and park appearance. The park is 30 years old, and is looking it. Some major work needs done on the infrastructure of the park. The buildings are looking bad. The landscaping, while improved, is just not what it used to be. I think the place is just dirty. A good cleaning couldn't possibly hurt. If I were the "boss", I would bulldoze Intenational Street and start over. If Paramount were still part of the picture, maybe the street becomes Sunset Boulevard. Hollywood themed. I just think the street needs some major help.
  2. Oktoberfest Gardens is being "rethemed". It will become a Bubba Gumps eatery, based on the movie Forest Gump. Not sure how that fits into the German theme of Oktoberfest, but then again, PKI pretty much has forgotten what the "theme" in theme park refers too. Just take a look at International Street....what a mess. On a side note, the idea was tossed around after Titanic was such a hit back in 98' to possibly turn the International Restraunt into the first class dining room from the Titanic. Never heard much about this after the initial news of it. Probably was to expensive of an undertaking.
  3. Skylab was so much fun. The story behind the removal of this ride was never really clear. The ride encountered a malfunction the season before it's removal that resluted in a few injuries. No one was seriously injured, but it was enough of an "accident" for local news to run a story about it. I think some folks went to the hospital with neck/back type injuries. It ran the rest of the season, with a slight modification. The "lean" of the wheel never reached the near vertical position as it had in previous seasons. The ride was dismantled the next season and sat in the boneyard for several years until it was sold. I would assume the removal of this ride had something to do with the accident since it was barely 10 years old at the time of it's closure. Does anyone know for sure?
  4. The damage to the Top Gun train was irrepairable. It was like an explosion. Nothing was left but one of the supports that the train hung from. The park of course tried to cover this up until news of the accident leaked and they had to acknowledge what had happened. Most park employees (line and seasonal managers) knew nothing of the accident. Senior management were tight lipped and did nothing to explain to guests why 1/3 of the park was closed to the public. Action Zone, the Eiffel Tower, and Flight Team were all shut down so no guest could possibly get a view of the damage. The cost of replacing the train was reported to us in excess of $300,000. The boom truck and the landscaping vehicle that were hit were also completely destroyed. The cost for those were close to $200,000.
  5. Paramount may be having financial problems. Their park in California, Great America, has lost money for the past 2 years. The park was shut down twice this past season due to violence/riots. And as if that were not enough, the city of Santa Clara may not extend the lease for the property that Great America sits on. The city wants it back. The other American parks are performing below expectations. Kings Dominion in Virginia also experienced a riot situation this past season. Kings Island, the "big dog" of Paramount Parks struggled to even come close to projections this past season. It is also rumored that Star Trek: The Experience will close soon as the commitment with Hilton Hotels comes to an end. Attendance at that attraction has been lackluster for many years. Interestingly enough, Paramount will manage the Terra Mitica park in Spain, with the Paramount name visibly absent from that property. On a side note, as discussed previously on this board, Six Flags is also having financial difficluties of its own. The annual report mailed to stock holders for the past two years has sited "weather conditions" as major factors in the companies underperformance.
