  1. Many lifeguards used to dine at the SC Subway often as it was close to the break room and it was an affordable lunch. If they get rid of it I'm sure the park has plans for renovating the space out for a new dining experience.
  2. I'm going to be real with you, with my one and only experience at WCO I can say that there needs to be a question gate. Having some guy complain about one employee just solidified my reasonings behind not being a big fan of Q&A. I think if you weed out the fanboys they can be enlightening, but with the fanboy questions it was a waste of time.
  3. Chick-Fil-A has officially been taken off of the park website, Subway, Panda Express, Skyline, Larosa's, Starbucks, Tom & Chee, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's and ICEE are the last remaining outside food destinations in the park. Honestly a major shame as I loved getting a sweet tea on a Saturday afternoon from there. Would be interesting to see if this was a corporate or park decision (Maybe a question for those evergreen headache inducing Q&A sessions at Coasterstock for those who are going this year) as the restaurant was always packed whenever I went to the park.
  4. Mac Shack was an instant loss for me. I tried it a few times and I didn't think it was worth it at all; especially in comparison to losing Pinks. Chick Fil A leaving is a serious blow, they brought it back due to guest demand and it always had a line when I was there. I am extremely upset with the removal of the Juice stand as I only got it once, and ever since they never staffed it for me to get any more drinks. With everything considered, the "celebration" classic leaving is a major loss. Let's continue the pain with the loss of the Town Hall Museum, which I for one have been eagerly waiting for it's reopening from the "COVID" reason to the we are still working on it reason. For them to just up and say we're not continuing is a major blow as that was a great way for guests to get out of the heat and relax a little bit. No first rider event/passholder preview absolutely is a slap in the face to passholders who in the past got these benefits, now sit here waiting longer for the attraction. I loved the way CP did these functions, having been to a few media days and some charity events, they took it up another level. The only good thing I can see here is that Famous Dave's is coming back to the park proper. The turnip never did anything special for me and honestly just felt like a waste of space as it wasn't that crowded. Having another meat option in the park will seriously enhance the food options overall. However, this is all screaming budget cuts to me. The fact that they are cutting back on basically discretionary expenses really makes me wonder how this season is going to run. Which also begs the question, why is Chick Fil A leaving and Johnny Rockets still there? I don't doubt that the park will have some decent culinary options coming, but this is after Keat's becoming a taco joint, Pink's going the way of the dodo, and now the Juice being demo'd. Everything tied in with the lack of CP Nights which I was planning on attending for the first time this year really just sours the deal. The only ray of sunshine is that with Frontier being gutted means that the park maybe planning a new attraction in that part of the park. I'll say it once, I'll say it again, the park needs a modern GCI or MACK launch coaster, which would fit snug in that section of the park.
  5. IMO I would love to see a Farmhouse style restaurant come to Rivertown, perhaps where the Big Box-O-FUN currently is. I think adding something in the vein of country style cooking with a rustic view would be perfect for the park. I think adding a sit down with a nice view of a coaster or the woods would deliver something that the park is still lacking in; that is if they don't add a new log flume a la Kenton Cove.
  6. Ironically enough I'm heading out there for Knott's Boysenberry Festival, Disneyland and Magic Mountain that weekend. Very interested to see how the park actually manages the event and how staffed it actually will be. As for park closures, from what I've understood January-February was extremely dead, so for them to make this adjustment isn't too far fetched for me.
  7. I would much rather see a continuation of the story to an extent than a straight redux. Perhaps make it a Haunt exclusive show? Phantom Theater Encore was the first non-Winterfest show that I can genuinely say I was impressed with in years. The park honestly created something that felt inspired and timeless, which is a massive statement to what the park strived for last year. I think the park itself won't be on par with the likes of CP/Knott's entertainment value for awhile, but this was a great first step.
  8. Working at the park is honestly an experience I'll never forget. Loved the park, the team, the events, the flexibility. Have a bias to the lifeguard team as some of the best views of the park/area were at the slide complexes. Add the fact that you work out for a living and get to be in the water for half the day, I will never forget my experiences and I still have friends of mine that I talk to this day! (Ironically enough, a few went to management at KI, many just filtered out to the Florida parks) Now I'm realizing it's been 10 years since my first season working at the park, I'm getting old
  9. 1. There are many commandments on waterpark attractions, taking out Barrier is one of them. The park desperately needs pools like this for capacity, as someone who worked virtually every slide/attraction before Trop Plunge, it's a serious people eater and keeps lines down. 2. A cliff jumping attraction could become a serious staffing issue. Having a lifeguard (I'll refer to them as LG's from here on out), on two points, with three other points could become a major staffing issue as already staffing is hard to maintain in that park. IE Trop Twist and Pineapple being closed for several weeks due to not having enough staffing. 3. I think the need for a new kids play area is there, most definitely after the past few years with the advent of the mini slides, I think something like that could be a better fit for the waterpark, perhaps caddy cornered near Pipeline? Or perhaps behind the pirate ship? Everything else looks like a decent concept, I would realistically say we're looking at a back half of the park renovation as Zoom Flume is aging pretty rapidly even with all of the major renovations we had over the past 5-7 years. Something like a water coaster or a new family raft attraction is 100% on the table; however I don't think adding a slide like a Carousel is something CF wants to tackle yet. Also something that I think you forgot to add is trees/shade, we need a lot more trees in the concrete jungle that SC created.
  10. Green Intamin 400 ft tall Aqua Trax? I'll refrain from my thoughts as honestly I don't want to hyper-inflate my expectations but I'm glad to see that the park has still has the enthusiast base getting excited over some new rocks. In a more serious and positive note, I'm really excited to get back to the park this year. Considering everything happening I'm excited to see the park get some new, fresh, flat rides and to see what they will do with Adventure Express. I'm just hoping that we can see some more theming and effects set up in the back half as it has felt barren in the past few years. This coupled with the food upgrades at the Mercado (Please for the love of everything good bring shrimp tacos with a pineapple or mango salsa addon to the park), I'm genuinely optimistic for what's coming this year!
  11. PSA Mystic is closed for the night.
  12. Another Winterfest banger from Wintergatan is Sommar***el, it's been a staple in my Spotify Christmas playlist since Winterfest started a couple years ago!
  13. Welcome back to another week of the Poll Series! (Apologies for the lack of a poll last week, work is getting busy!) This week we're looking at the 50th Anniversary pin set, which has quickly became a fan success with various properties from KI's past coming back with pins for the 50th anniversary. I will admit, I was pretty impressed with the pin selection the park had; however for myself and fellow enthusiasts alike, there were a few parts of the park's history that we felt like the park missed out on bringing to life with the pin series. Feel free to leave a comment below if you don't see your pin listed!
  14. That's what I was thinking, I didn't know if the park was selling scrap or where that comment came from.
  15. Was this announced recently? That's the first time I've ever heard about that.
  16. All of the models in the 50th anniversary shop as of tonight. Definitely buying The Vortex model when I get paid next. (Stood around for a good while trying to figure out the exact price and availability but the staff member was SUPER helpful at the desk tonight!!) They still have several copies of Goodbye Coney in stock, got a few for some Christmas gifts and they’re in good condition!
  17. As someone who has collected a sizeable menagerie of themepark merchandise and parts, I have spent extra on several pieces over the years. That said, the pricing is a wee bit excessive in terms of what you actually get. Would I spend $150 on it? Maybe if I got a bonus or a giftcard to help bounce the bill, otherwise it looks overpriced; especially considering the $125 price point for comparable train sets for the KI & MV RR and The Racer set that is currently for sale.
  18. Every year I like to sit back with a few of my fellow KI enthusiasts and discuss the future of the park, while discussing the current standing of the park. We are getting a major overhaul of a part of the park that has been in limbo for years being strained between two different themes; however that doesn't mean we can't look to see what else the park could do in the future as the park is growing in various facets. This week's poll is to discuss just that, what you would like to see as the next major capital investment into the park. Note that this topic is strictly to major additions, think along the lines of a resort, coaster, area refresh, or water park addition/overhaul. Personally I think that the park could seriously use a new water coaster or a full out purchase of the Great Wolf Lodge next door. The waterpark has been due for some TLC with a new slide for a long time, while I do believe that we need a new refreshed kids area, I believe giving the park a new water coaster could seriously enhance the pull away from guests who want to maybe see what Holiday World has to offer, and deliver a more holistic approach to what the waterpark has been lacking for a long time. Another major feat I would like to see is maybe buying outright the Great Wolf Lodge property. The waterpark and hotel keeps a steady stream of guests throughout the year, while also giving the park an opportunity to give a true resort feel to the current business model they have. We have seen hotels popping up at other parks recently, and I believe it would be the perfect way to expand the Kings Island brand once again for years to come.
  19. Didn’t even check the Festhaus for their offerings, if they got rid of the kielbasa that is a major loss!
  20. I would guess it will be in the general area. It’s practically akin to a holy site so I’d doubt the park is going to get rid of the rock.
  21. Had the turkey with the cranberry bbq sauce. Absolutely loving the seasonal lineup this year.
  22. Can confirm the dedication rock is still here, it has been transplanted next to the bar!
  23. It's interesting that we didn't get a pin release this week. Maybe it's coming on Friday for the Wintefest kick off?
  24. We are officially out of IAAPA week! A time when industry professionals and up-and-comers alike come together to announce new innovative options for their parks and their companies. This year we had several very interesting announcements, from lead car showings, to new coaster models for parks to explore for their guests. What was your favorite announcement from IAAPA 2022 and as a sub poll for the comments, what new attraction/showcased attraction would you like to see come to KI in the future?
  25. I was just talking about the travesty of the parks with my parents last weekend in Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs. Chapek really took out the values and installed high priced corporate greed. Not a huge fan of Iger, but hopefully he could move things in a positive direction.
